  1. I also think that Devers will hit well again, and I also will still think it was the right thing to trade him. As I've said before, I'm relieved to be rid of that contract. It's now wait to see what ownership does with the freed up money. The trade deadline was underwhelming, but I think that was more about the price in prospects versus any added cost in salary.
  2. Those of you who were clamoring for Anthony to be called up were right about how special he is. After struggling for a bit, he seems to have found his bearings. He is currently the player I have the most confidence in when at the plate. I'm not upset that Breslow waited to call him up. It seems to me that he is pretty high on Duran, Rafaela, and Abreu, which I agree with. Our deadline trade acquisitions were not what most of us hoped, but the best part of it for me is that we still have all of our outfielders.
  3. It's annoying because I pay good money for the Extra Innings package. I'm not about to pay more to watch games on the streaming services. One nice thing is that an hour or two after the game ends, Extra Innings archives it and I can go back and watch after the fact, which I did. It's still annoying though. On the bright side, Go Red Sox!
  4. Honestly, I'm surprised that we swept. Very happy, of course, but surprised. We were probably a little lucky to come away with 3 wins, but that's okay. We've had our share of unlucky losses. They all count the same.
  5. Stupid Apple+, At least the Roku games are still available with the Extra Innings package.
  6. Texas and Seattle are playing each other this weekend. That will help us one way or another. The Sox have to find a way to win the series against Houston.
  7. I have argued that it would have been the better thing to do. I know how awful Devers' defense at 3B is, but our middle infield defense would have been first rate and Devers would have been happy. An argument could be made (before the fact) that Devers/Bregman/Yoshida would be a stronger combination than Bregman/Campbell/Devers.
  8. Yeah, the Priester trade is one that might end up biting us (more than it already has.) May should eat some innings for us, which is not without some value, and will hopefully keep us in most games.
  9. I am in complete agreement. We have no idea what the asking price was for any player. We may or may not make the playoffs. I think we have a good chance to do so. Enjoy the ride.
  10. Anecdotal evidence.
  11. Not that you need any help defending yourself, but you aren't doing anything wrong in updated us with Devers' or the Giants' numbers. Carry on. Might I add that since the Devers trade, not only are the Giants scuffling, but the Red Sox are handling themselves pretty well.
  12. Posting about how Devers and the Giants are doing is fair game. It's not about bashing Devers. It's about supporting one's opinion that trading Devers was the right move. If Devers' OPS were .1000 and the Giants were 23-13, I can guarantee that we'd be hearing about it, ad nauseum I might add, and hearing about how the FO screwed up royally again. We will continue to see posts about Devers, good or bad, for years to come, in an attempt to assess this trade. For now, it looks like the FO did the right thing. Even when Devers starts hitting again, I will think that the FO did the right thing.
  13. I can't really argue with that. The only defense I have for Breslow is that we really don't know what other teams were asking him for. I'd rather he make the moves that he did instead of grossly overpaying for a player that may or may not be the difference maker.
  14. Well, I wanted a #2 or #3 starter and a back end reliever. We got May and Matz. Do they qualify? 🙃
  15. I know it's frustrating when we don't get the player(s) we were hoping for. We have to remember that it takes two to tango. We don't know who was actually available at a reasonable price. As far as the players who were traded, perhaps the receiving team matched up better with the team trading the player than we did. There are a whole lot of conversations going on that we are unaware of. It's not as simple as it may seem, especially balancing the present with the long term. I'm disappointed in our deadline, but I try to keep these things in mind.
  16. Not a great trade deadline. I'm disappointed. However, I still feel good about our team.
  17. The goal is to make the postseason. Once you get there, the playoffs truly are largely a crapshoot. The Red Sox have just about as good a chance of winning in the playoffs as the other teams.
  18. The Braves were very high on Grissom at one point. Like you, I think he deserves a shot.
  19. He has to get the experience somehow. Perhaps during the middle of a playoff race is not the best time, but I can't imagine he'd be any worse offensively than Hamilton.
  20. The Red Sox have the 4th best run differential in the AL at +68, behind the Yankees (+99), the Tigers (+81), and the Rangers (+72). I think the Sox are a better team than some people give them credit for, and I don't think that our offense has hit as well as they are capable of doing.
  21. I know that if Devers were tearing it up with the Giants, we would be seeing posts about that also for the remainder of his contract, not necessarily from you, but from someone. It's what we do here. I am still regularly reminded of how great Mookie is. And he isn't even that great this year. Personally, I'm enjoying Bell's updates.
  22. I'm in agreement, Moon. I'm disappointed that Yoshida hasn't hit better than he has. Granted, he's been out a long time.
  23. I'm surprised they didn't call up Grissom when Mayer went on the IL. I guess they're more concerned with the defensive side of things at 2nd base.
  24. I'm looking at things through the same biased lens. Duran played a very good defensive centerfield last year, so perhaps Rafaela's defense there won't be missed so much. And it's far too early to say that Rafaela won't be an elite defensive 2nd baseman. Anyway, things could change in a hurry.
  25. All the more reason to stop handing out such long, guaranteed contracts.
