  1. I'm almost never a fan of trading away starting pitching for a position player.
  2. If the Sox miss the playoffs, Breslow will surely receive a lot of criticism, though IMO, it would be unwarranted. I'm not sure what else he might have done to bolster the offense besides maybe adding some depth pieces. We lost 3 lefty bats in Mayer, Abreu, and Anthony. That would be difficult for any team to overcome.
  3. Limping into the postseason sums it up pretty well. The good news is, we are still in control of our destiny. The bad news is, our remaining 5 games are no cake walk.
  4. Absolutely, we need to get a run there, regardless of the bad ball/strike call. It seems like oftentimes when we fail to score a run in a situation like that, the opposing team comes back in the next half inning and scores very quickly. Interestingly, in recent weeks, I have watched several teams fail to score in similar situations, so it's not just the Red Sox. Do we do it more often than other teams? Probably.
  5. Oddly enough, I am not. However, I prefer the 2 challenges per game over an automated system calling all the balls and strikes.
  6. Dear Red Sox, I am starting to get a knot in the pit of my stomach. Don't do this to me! Just WIN!
  7. The Jays have surprised me. I didn't think they would be able to pull out a probable division win.
  8. Our offense is so maddening at times. How can you not score at least one run when you have bases loaded and no outs? I would like to point out how one bad strike/ball call potentially changed the outcome of that game in a big way. In the second inning with bases loaded, Rafaela had a 2-0 count in his favor. Pitch #3 to him was clearly Ball 3. The ump called it a strike. If the count had gone to 3-0 like it should have instead of 2-1, the entire trajectory of that game might have been different.
  9. They need to start losing. They're making me nervous.
  10. I've said it before, but how is Cleveland even in this wildcard picture with a -31 run differential. They should be 71 - 78 instead of 78 - 71.
  11. Woot! Let's hope MN can win another. The Rays had a very good chance of beating the Jays, both in the bottom of the 10th and the bottom of the 11th. Unfortunately, the Rays could not get a run home from 3rd base with less than 2 outs. Oh well, it would have taken a near miracle for us to overtake them.
  12. Yeah, the Rangers and the Guardians are really getting on my nerves right now.
  13. Let's hope the Twins can do something against the Yankees. We still have a very outside chance of winning division, only because we still have 3 games remaining against the Jays. We are going to need a lot of help though, and like I just posted, I don't like having to rely on other teams to win. They inevitably will let me down. Full steam ahead for the Red Sox.
  14. Yes. The Red Sox have to take care of their own business. These 3 teams beating up on each other does us no good if the Sox can't win their own games. I hate having to depend on what another team does to make it into the playoffs. Fortunately, the Sox don't have to do that if they win their games.
  15. Off days are at least a lot easier to take when we're coming off a win. Thank goodness the Sox won and the Rangers lost yesterday. I needed that. I don't think the Twins have it in them to beat the Yankees.
  16. I'm always on board with a feel good thread about Trevor Story. I'm happy for him that he's finally able to contribute to the team like he knows he's able to do. While I'm at it, kudos to Cora for sticking with him when he was going through that very horrendous month of May.
  17. I understand why some people are against the expanded playoffs, with more than half the teams making it to the postseason. I think the playoffs would be more meaningful if fewer teams made it in. That said, I really like that the expanded playoffs keep more teams in the race for most of the season. It keeps the fans engaged, and it makes trade deadline decisions a little more interesting.
  18. I don't disagree with any of this. I'm all for versatility, and I think there is a lot of value in players who can play multiple positions well. With Campbell's early MLB success, the Sox got a little ahead of themselves with how much they thought he could handle. Some players can handle it pretty seamlessly. Campbell couldn't. That being the case, I agree that you give him one position and leave him there. I hope to see him back with the big league team next year.
  19. As far as what position Campbell should play, I think I'd leave him at 2nd base. Yes, I know his defensive metrics were awful this year, but that's in a small sample. Put him in a position, and let him play it and learn it well. Of course, a lot is dependent on what happens with Bregman, Mayer, and Casas.
  20. It seems as though Campbell was promoted too quickly, and after he experienced a little bit of early success with the Red Sox, a lot of expectations were placed on him. He was asked to play a couple of different defensive positions, and he was asked to bat in the cleanup spot. That's a lot for a then 22-year old rookie to shoulder. That said, there is a reason why Campbell was so highly ranked as a prospect. He has the talent. He's played all of 67 games as the big league level. It is far too early to give up on him, defensively as well as offensively.
  21. We can dream, can't we?
  22. It makes me feel better that you and others are very confident that we will be in the playoffs. I am pretty confident too, but it would help if Texas would get a little less hot. I was sure that the Brewers would win their series against the Rangers, but no such luck Anyway, we can't really rely on other teams to get the job done for us. We need to take care of our own business.
  23. I am always hopeful that our current players, guys like Bregman and Giolito, would prefer to remain in Boston and would be willing to leave some money on the table to do so. More often than not, I end up disappointed.
