  1. Yeah, we tend to get excited, which there's nothing wrong with, we just need to keep in mind he has a way to go before we really know what he's going to provide for us.
  2. Yes, I heard that comment too. He makes some really spectacular plays that are Gold Glove caliber, but then he'll go and boot an easy one. As others have said, too much time to think.
  3. I'd be worried if I were you. As messed up as 2020 is...
  4. 1. If the going rate for stars in their prime is 10 years, the Sox should pass. 2. Henry will spend money. It doesn't have to be, nor should it be, a large amount for a monster contract. Not having a superstar on our team does not mean the team will be mediocre. A well balanced team that is above average to strong at every position will give you a better chance than a team with a superstar at one position and below average at several other positions.
  5. Also, there is talk that the expanded playoffs will continue. The Sox are in!
  6. Geez, you should have just called me out by name in your first post, rather than saying "some Red Sox fans". I'm not going to apologize or back down from being optimistic about my team. Missing the playoffs this year does not preclude making the playoffs next year. Don't rain on my parade.
  7. I tend to think that a big part of this is mental. He began the season out of whack because he couldn't go to the video room. Baseball players are such creatures of habit that a break in routine like this really disrupts them. The longer the slump went on, the more it affected him mentally. I think he will recover.
  8. I would take a flyer on him.
  9. Who'd have thought that we'd come out on the right end of a pitcher's duel? LOL Good game. Some good defense in the game.
  10. You mean you will have a bye the first round.
  11. Tough call. I can understand the desire to be a major leaguer. OTOH, that's an awful lot of guaranteed money to pass up.
  12. I'm not counting JD out, but thank goodness his contract was relatively short term.
  13. I think the Dodgers are an outlier. I don't see other teams going crazy on free agents.
  14. ^^^ Waiting until after next season makes a lot more sense.
  15. We will acquire low cost, short term assets, but we won't be swapping them at the deadline. We will need them for our playoff run. I agree that there should not be any big spending in 2021, but we're not taking a step back either.
  16. Don't encourage him.
  17. Happy that Pablo signed on with another team. The legend that is Kung Fu Panda lives to see another day.
  18. Thanks Larry!
  19. I think he'll sign somewhere. Maybe a one year contract to try to prove himself. Maybe the Sox will re-sign him.
  20. Yes, that's all I was talking about, the signing part.
  21. Yes, it will take years before we know that. The overall value might amount to relatively little. However, we are feeling the impact of it right now.
  22. Good job with the series thread Thunder. Miami is in the playoff hunt, so there is that.
  23. This is the type of move I see for next year. Nothing splashy, but enough to keep us competitive.
  24. I think we'll be competitive in 2021, but I agree, it's not yet the year to 'go'. Get some stopgap players to keep us in the hunt while continuing to build the farm and while continuing to give some of these youngster some time to develop. In addition to Pedroia's, Price's contract also comes off the books after next year. More money to spend. I would re-sign JBJ if he's willing to sign for a discount. I think the big push will be for 2022.
  25. Ben is 100% responsible for Castillo.
