  1. If he's cheap enough, I'd welcome him back with open arms.
  2. Jon Lester and Clay Buchholz. Get it done Bloom!
  3. I was thinking the same thing. LOL
  4. Woot! I'm glad you like making game threads. LOL
  5. Some of us were in Zoom classes.
  6. I don't get this sentiment.
  7. The shorter the series, the more randomness kicks in.
  8. I understand the arguments against expanded playoffs, but I kind of like the idea. It keeps things interesting. That said, the division winner should absolutely have some kind of advantage beyond home field. Otherwise, what's the incentive for winning the division?
  9. Vaz is no stud, but he's a pretty good catcher on a reasonable contract. I understand trading him for pitching, but I also think we would either be downgraded at the catching position, or it's going to cost us more.
  10. Yes, the farm is in better shape than it was, and it got to this point relatively quickly. At the same time, the Sox sacrificed in order to get it there, some sacrifices were intentional, others were not.
  11. No apologies needed Harmony, but thank you. It's all good. I really don't mind being called out, as much as my previous post might suggest otherwise. I'm just defending my team.
  12. Both Theo and Ben were tight with their prospects. I do think that Ben would have made some trades in 2016 if he had stayed on. The team was at that point. He certainly wouldn't have traded to the extent that Dombrowski did. As you said, happy medium.
  13. I don't really disagree with any of this. I am pulling for Beni and JD to rebound, though I am aware that it might not happen. I'm just saying it's a tough decision on when to let someone go. I'm glad I'm not the one who has to make the call.
  14. Jon Lester was one of my absolute sentimental favorites. I thought the Sox did him wrong in negotiations, but I also didn't think the Sox should top the Cubs offer in free agency. Hadn't really thought about him lately, but I saw a blurb about him getting emotional that he might have pitched his last game for the Cubs at Wrigley. Time flies. Anyway, the point is that here's another beloved player that moved on, and we survived just fine. (Yes, I know that we could have benefited from having him on our team.)
  15. We are always going to have our favorites, no doubt. But we do root for the team and fall in love with new players every year. I love Mookie and love what he did for our team. At the same time, I have already become attached to Verdugo and am happy to now have him on our team.
  16. I had the very same thought as I was watching the game last night.
  17. JD's decline from last year to this year is one of the worst one year drop offs that I've seen. His current fWAR is -.8. This is similar to what Pablo did when he joined the Sox.
  18. They have definitely turned things around, and once again look like a playoff team. Needless to say, I will be pulling against them every step of the way. #AnyoneButTheYankees
  19. Some good news out of this season. Our pitching is showing some signs of life. Our offense was never as bad as they've seemed at times. Red Sox Notes @soxnotes · 1h Red Sox pitchers have allowed 0 runs in their last 14.0 IP. In their last 10 games, Sox starters are 3-0 with a 3.38 ERA. Since Sept. 5, the Sox lead the AL in OPS (.877) and rank 2nd in AVG (.291) and HR (20). Bobby Dalbec and Rafael Devers each have an 8-game hitting streak. Red Sox Stats @redsoxstats · 1m Jeffrey Springs gave up 5 ER in his first game of the year, since then he's been pretty good even with a .388 BABIP. He's been among the league leaders in limiting hard contact and getting swing and misses. There is a bloodletting coming, he's making a strong case to stay.
  20. We don't have that.
  21. I agree that we really need those guys to produce like they are capable of. The question becomes, how long of a leash do you give them before deciding that they're not going to turn it around? I would hate to give up on a player, then have him come back really strong with another team. Papi is a good example of a player that many were ready to give up on (more than once). Thank goodness we didn't. There has to be patience with this type of thing. As you said, a lot of players are well below career norms this year. I don't think we'll be trading them (especially not JD), so we have to hope they'll figure it out.
  22. Oh, it's decimated. We went from a top 3 (#1 at one point) to a bottom 3 in an extremely short period of time.
  23. I don't think the roster turnover would be that drastic. Some players will agree to team friendly deals and will be extended. I hate to see our players leave or get traded, but then I always end up liking the next group just as much.
  24. It doesn't have to be an either/or. But something has to give, somewhere. If you're going to tie up that much money in one player, then you have to have a farm system to supply the team with a few cost controlled players. And if that big contract goes sour, which it almost inevitably will, then you don't even have that superstar helping out the team. But you still have that large amount of money tied up in him.
  25. I'm with you on this one.
