  1. Because we don't have a farm and enough upcoming cost-controlled players. Sure, we could go over the limit this year, but it really wouldn't make any sense to do so.
  2. "Stormtrooper" sounds like a Star Wars thing, but beyond that, I have no clue as to what you're talking about. If we signed Gardner, I would reluctantly have to pull for him, but please, no.
  3. In addition to Sawamura. I can see one more reliever being signed before any addition of a CF or a 2B.
  4. As I've said once before, 87 wins. Book it.
  5. You don't know that Bloom lied. You don't know what happened behind the scenes.
  6. I don't know whether a very smart poster already posted this, but The Athletic has ranked the Red Sox offense 3rd in the AL behind the Blue Jays and the White Sox. Even with the trade of Beni, I believe our offense will score some runs.
  7. I've mentioned the Cora factor often, and I think it's a very real thing. I have always felt that the way a manager manages the players is far more important than any in game decisions. The players like, respect, and connect with Cora. He has a way of getting his players to buy into what he's selling. I think that Cora will not only help Marwin, but he'll also help JD and Devers, in particular, among other players.
  8. Word on the street is that the PTBNL from the Mets will be rather substantial. Merloni made the very good point that most people criticize these types of trades simply because they don't recognize the names. I was not and still am not happy about trading Beni, but that doesn't mean that it's not a good trade.
  9. I think the team will compete this year. That said, the fact that we have very little realistic flexibility is a byproduct of the cliff.
  10. There is definitely another BP arm coming.
  11. Cora like Marwin. That's good enough for me.
  12. Depth and versatility. Makes sense.
  13. Don't even think it Notin. If we sign Gardner, I may have to quit baseball. Or become a Padres' fan.
  14. I would have liked that too. I am really not happy about Beni being traded. Who knows, maybe Cordero will pleasantly surprise us. However, we still need another OFer.
  15. It's like I typed this post myself.
  16. That, plus the news that MASN has dropped Gary Thorne from their broadcasts.
  17. Best news we've had all offseason!
  18. No, not finished yet. We need an outfielder. I will say that I really, really like the Sawamura signing.
  19. I am thinking we have to get another OFer.
  20. My initial reaction to this trade is that I don't like it. I am a believer that Beni will bounce back and that Beni should not be traded unless the trade really made a lot of sense. I'm not sure this one does. As someone who expects the team to compete this year, I don't think we should make moves that solely benefit the long term at the expense of this year anymore than we should make moves that solely benefit this year at the expense of the long term. Clearly, this is a long term goal move. Will we be better off in the future for it? Probably. I will say that I am intrigued by Winckowski. With that said, I will reserve my final judgment until we see what, if any, subsequent moves are made and until we see who the 3 PTBNLs are. Again, my initial reaction is that I don't like this trade, but it is far too soon to say whether it is a bad move or not.
  21. Unless you're talking about Dombrowski.
  22. That's when he is most likely to strike - when we least expect it. Bloom is not done yet.
  23. 87 wins. Book it.
  24. He's still out there somewhere.
  25. !!! It's officially baseball season!
