  1. Also, do not discount the Cora Factor!!!
  2. Yes, the saving will be reinvested. I think fans will get a lot of enjoyment out of watching guys like Devers, Bogaerts, and Verdugo play. By all accounts, if Kike is halfway decent, he will be a fan favorite.
  3. Thank you. A lot of people are crediting the acquisition of Mookie for the Dodgers' World Series win. The truth of the matter is that the Dodgers could have very likely won the WS even without Mookie. They certainly would have made the playoffs without him. Does the one championship make the 12 year deal worth it? I guess an argument could be made for that. The Dodgers have built a powerhouse that was made possible in large part by their farm system. It starts with the farm. Build that up and that opens up so many other possibilities.
  4. 1. There is absolutely no way we sign JBJ to a 6 year contract or even a 4 year contract. A 3 year contract is pretty much out of the question. 2. Bloom is the man. 3. Red Sox Stats @redsoxstats · 9h Verdugo has basically played the equivalent of one full MLB season: 709 plate appearances 44 doubles 2 triples 20 home runs 8 steals 53/112 BB/K .290/.345/.458 5.5 WAR And for mere pennies on the dollar of what Mookie costs.
  5. Sale will provide the boost and the spark that we need at the ASB to take us into the playoffs.
  6. Yes, with this current roster. It's not quite where I'd like it to be, but I think we have enough to win a wildcard berth. In terms of the players who are uncertainties for this year, like Beni, JD, Erod, we need a little better than an average number of things to work out in our favor. As questionable as our pitching staff is, the potential is there. I think the other AL East teams have almost as many question marks about their pitching as we do. Our offense should be very good. I am concerned about our defense, though Kike should help out a little there. I'd still like that defensive CFer signed.
  7. Another tidbit I read this morning: Baseball Quotes @baseballquotes1 · 13h Trevor Bauer is set to make more money in 2021 than three current teams have on their payroll! Trevor Bauer's 2021 contract: $40 million Cleveland Guardians 2021 payroll: $36.5 million Pittsburgh Pirates 2021 payroll: $37.7 million Baltimore Orioles 2021 payroll: $39.1 millon That is crazy stuff.
  8. Red Sox Stats @redsoxstats · 13h Dodgers have the farm system that lets them make these moves. They have built an absolute machine that endlessly feeds in new top prospects to offset adding superstars. That's the dream. ^^This guy is my soulmate. The Dodgers were also under the tax penalty limit in 2019. They currently have all the flexibility in the world, which is the exact opposite of what we have. Bloom will get us there, I have no doubt.
  9. I discount anything that happened in 2012 due to Bobby Valentine. And I say that with all sincerity. A lot of things went right in 2013, as things almost always have to do when a team wins a World Series. I don't think it was a miracle season where everything went right though. I've never agreed with that assessment. Yes, we will need a lot of things to break in our favor to win the World Series this year. So will the Yankees.
  10. With the contract being so heavily front loaded, Bauer is sure to opt out after the 2nd year if he pitches halfway decently. Did the Dodgers go over the threshold in 2019?
  11. The short length is the only saving grace of this contract. I have always said that I prefer a shorter deal with a higher AAV (Hey Bell, weren't we looking for examples of this earlier?), but this AAV is a bit too much for my liking.
  12. It really wasn't a miracle season though. I'm not expecting us to win the division this year. Legitimately competing for a wildcard spot? Absolutely.
  13. You are talking crazy.
  14. ^^This.
  15. If we had the payroll space under the cap and we had the #1 farm system, I still would not sign Betts to a 10+year contract.
  16. Bloom makes a lot of sense, if you ask me.
  17. There will be more additions to the Red Sox before the start of the season. Of this I am very confident.
  18. Yikes. 2013 Enough said.
  19. It's reaching a critical level.
  20. The Dodgers reset their tax penalty in 2018 and they have a very strong farm system. Not saying that that makes spending all that money the right thing to do, but it certainly opens up more flexibility for them to do so.
  21. I like the 3 year length for the Dodgers. Still a crazy amount of money though.
  22. No truth. Only doom and gloom.
  23. Bloom is not finished.
  24. IMO, our line looks pretty potent. I would still like a defensive minded CFer, but from an offensive standpoint, I'm good!
  25. Apparently, Bloom likes to make his deals in bunches. As several were saying, he's not finished yet.
