    Thank you. That was my understanding, that the recent poor performances are not related to a drop in spin rates. I agree with what you're saying. I think the pitchers are just going through a rough stretch, coupled with playing some tough offensive teams. They are not this bad. I am confident that they will continue to pitch well enough to keep our offense in most of the games.

    I don't know if someone has posted ERod's peripheral stats recently, but he has an expected ERA of 3.59, to go along with his 3.86 FIP, 3.49 xFIP, 3.66 SIERA, and well above career norm .370 BABIP. ERod has not been pitching nearly as poorly as the results he is getting. Eovaldi is in the same boat, though not to the same extent.

    I don't have access to The Athletic, and was unable to read the article, but I think they pretty much squashed this idea.

    The Red Sox rotation will be fine, if they can stay healthy. As you said, they weren't quite as good as they looked earlier in the year, but they're also not as bad as they have looked recently. Chalk it up to playing against some really good offenses and going through a rough patch. Moving forward, I expect to see more of what we have seen most of the season. The starters won't be lights out, but they will pitch well enough to keep the team in the game. Everyone, take a deep breath.

    I agree. I'm not sure that anyone really questioned their offense coming into the season.

    As I've said about the Red Sox teams that finished in last place, I can't really blame this on Cashman when pretty much every projection system, both human and computer, had the Yankees winning the division by a lot. The GM's job is to build a team that looks good 'on paper'. He can't control what happens on the field.

    One thing that really irritates me about Ozuna is that apparently he will still get paid, even if convicted.

    Believe it or not, the Sox run the bases better than the Rays. The Sox are 6th in MLB with 4.2 base running runs while the Rays are 17th with -1.3 base running runs. The Yankees are 29th with -7. LOL

    ERod is pitching much better than his ERA indicates. He has one of the biggest differentials (I believe the 4th highest) between ERA and FIP, xFIP, and SIERA. Not to mention his BABIP. He should be fine.

    I like Jacko. He's a good guy who's as passionate about his team as we are about the Sox. But yes, sometimes he gets carried away.

    I'm guessing the Rays will stay in the race the entire season, but they won't continue to play .900 ball like they have over the past 2 weeks. I hope they beat the Yankees every game. I'll worry about the Rays when we play the Rays again.

    It is way too soon to make that call. A lot can, and will, happen with the current staff before Sale is ready to return. These things have a tendency to work themselves out. If all of our starters remain healthy and continue to pitch well enough to keep the team in the game, making it difficult to decide who loses his rotation spot, well that's a good problem to have. You know Sale is itching to get back, and he will probably try to force the issue, but the Sox need to make sure he is completely ready to return. What a nice trade deadline pickup that could be for us.

    Not so long ago, the Dodgers looked untouchable. They came back down to earth, as will the Rays.

    The Mookie ship has sailed. Even if Mookie were having a typical MVP Mookie year, trading him was the right move.

    I would think that players would value playing for a team that has a legitimate chance to regularly make it to the playoffs during a 10-year contract with that team. With Mookie, the Dodgers are a good bet. With some of the other players that go after the largest contract, is it really worth it? I'd rather make $250 million and play on a winning team as opposed to making $300 million and play on a losing team. It's not just about winning or losing either. Is the difference between $250 million and $300 million worth your and your family's happiness?

    It depends. If the Sox are down by 1 run, I want the chance to come back and win the game.

    100% It's tough to lose players like Mookie, but IMO, you have to let them walk.

    I would much rather have Verdugo at $650K than Mookie at $30M. Much.
