  1. Obviously it's only been one game, but Wong looked very good in his first major league game. I read that after each 1/2 inning that he caught, he went straight to Varitek for feedback. I love that.
  2. At the moment, I have more confidence in Renfroe at the plate than I do with most of our other hitters.
  3. I have no problem with the Kike contract. I liked the signing at the time and I still like it.
  4. Verdugo has not had a very good month of June.
  5. I was not feeling as confident going into this series either. I was thinking we would win 1 out of 3. I am very happy that we've already won the series. Of course, a sweep would be even better. I felt very confident going into the series against KC. I was thinking we would sweep them, and at the very least, I was sure we would win that series. That's baseball for you.
  6. Interestingly, the Sox also lead baseball in runs scored in the 1st inning. I think that's a testament to how good our 2-5 guys are. I still believe that the opposing pitcher has to get a little boost by being able to retire our leadoff guy so easily. Or perhaps a better way of saying that is, imagine the added pressure that we could put on the opposing pitcher if we had a leadoff guy who got on base in front of our 2-5 in the first inning.
  7. As one who often looks at run differential and Pythagorean W-L records, this is old news to me. The Jays have been a tad on the unlucky side. Regardless, the Sox would still be right in the thick of things, and still ahead of the dreaded Yankees.
  8. You are speaking nonsense, Moon.
  9. Cora should know better. Which is why I think he is being a tad stubborn with this #2-5 business. I can fully understand liking his 2-5 if there were someone in the leadoff spot who could create a spark ahead of these guys. Our numbers out of the leadoff spot aren't just bad, they are terrible. I am thinking having our leadoff batter retired so easily to start of most games gives the opposing pitcher a little boost in confidence.
  10. LOL You are too funny.
  11. Personally, I would be okay with Verdugo, JD, Bogaerts, and Devers batting in any order in the top 5 spots. JD batting 3rd is not that big a deal - I'll grant you that, though I still would not put him in the 3 hole. Batting Kike or Santana lead off is a big deal. OBP is king, and it has been stated that simply setting your line up in order of decreasing OBP would give you a very effective line up.
  12. The points made in my post are based strictly off of what the numbers say. As you can see, most of the line up changes make very little difference. So yes, if Cora is keeping the line up the way he has it because players have told him that they don't want to hit in another spot, then I'm all for it. I have not seen any indication that this is the case, however. To me, it sounds like Cora is just intent on having the #2-5 spots remain where they are. Unlike most batting order tweaks, having what should be a #8 hitter (Kike) batting lead off is a pretty egregious error for this line up, as far as managerial errors go. It's akin to batting a pitcher at the top of the order. It could cost the team 2 games over the course of the season. If Cora does not have a strong reason for not putting Verdugo in the lead off spot, then he is making a mistake, IMO.
  13. I'm not piling on Richards for using a substance. I'm piling on him for his defeatist attitude after the fact. He's not, by far, the only pitcher going through this adjustment. Many pitchers are still pitching very well. He sounds like he has already given up on being able to pitch well for the rest of the season. It's time for an attitude check.
  14. Red Sox Stats @redsoxstats · 15m Josh Winckowski with 0 walks, 9 strikeouts and 15 swing and misses yesterday. YTD: 45.2 IP, 3.35 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 4 HR, 44 K, 12 BB, 50% GB
  15. I do not like this trade for this year. However, this trade was made with the long term goals in mind, which I understand. I think the Sox will end up ahead in this deal.
  16. Ding Ding Ding We have a winner.
  17. Are these guys finished or might they still contribute? Might Margot be worth more before he becomes a free agent?
  18. The contract might not have seemed so bad if we had not given the prospects up on top of that. Regardless, I'm not paying that much for a relief pitcher. You can get almost the same value, if not the same value, for a fraction of the cost. Also, in terms of getting value back for prospects given up, you cannot just consider whether the prospects have done anything since the trade occurred. The value that they have in trade is not the same as what they actually end up producing.
  19. You have not taken salary into account, nor years of service.
  20. Absolutely. In just a short time, the optics of enforcing the rule have not been good.
  21. Could be. I'd like to see what he does the second time around with the Sox. If he goes back to being a black hole, then we can attribute it to the pitching.
  22. IMO, Cora is being a little stubborn in wanting to keep the #2-5 guys in the #2-5 spots. There are better options.
  23. It is sounding more and more like Duran will get the call soon. I am guessing that relief pitching is high on Bloom's radar.
  24. He has to change his mindset first. He has seemingly already resigned himself to the fact that he can't pitch without the sticky stuff. He needs to find a way to do it. It's as simple as that. I read that he has options remaining but that he can veto being sent down because of his service time. If he really wants to figure it out, be willing to be sent down for a few starts and work on it.
