  1. I think the Sox will try to extend Devers before he reaches free agency. There's still time. Of course, Devers has to be open to the idea as well. As far as moving him to first base, my feeling is to just leave him be and let him do his thing, at least for the foreseeable future.
  2. Suddenly, the seemingly unbeatable Pesky Rays have lost 5 in a row. As much as I'd like to count the Yankees out, I can't. As we have already seen many times this season, one or two weeks can make a big difference.
  3. No doubt. Remember, however, that this is technically a 'rebuilding' year for us. Even though we have played very well, the focus of Bloom's moves has been on sustainability and the long term. He has already been working hard on 2022 and beyond, both in terms of giving the team some financial flexibility and in building the farm.
  4. Ha ha. For me, I think the only time 2 and 3 would be reversed is when the Yankees are pretty much eliminated, so it would be pretty late in the season. If the Rays and the Yanks play a series right now, I'm pulling for the Rays.
  5. My opinion is that if Verdugo is willing to extend before free agency and is reasonable about it, the Sox will get it done. IMO, Mookie was unwilling and unreasonable. If Verdugo ends up treating his free agency like Mookie did, then we have to let him walk. The next young star will be ready to take his place. The Sox will spend money and they will sign a big contract or two. However, I don't think they will go crazy on a contract, nor should they.
  6. Our big midseason acquisition will be Chris Sale.
  7. Of course the luxury tax bothers the owners. That's why they all eventually hit the reset button.
  8. I am a fan of the small market type moves.
  9. I very much wanted JBJ re-signed, though not for quite that much money. It does appear that we dodged a bullet in letting him go.
  10. I hear you Nick. That said, I am going to take every opportunity that I can to plug Verdugo and his salary over Betts and his salary. How anyone is not happy with that move is beyond me.
  11. Yes, there is a difference between throwing the absolute worst line up out there versus putting the optimal line up out there. In terms of a typical type of line up that a manager uses versus the tweaks that we fans want the managers to make, there is very little difference. If I recall correctly, if a manager batted the pitcher in the #4 spot all season long, which is one of the most extreme errors a manager could make, it would amount to about 14 runs over the entire season.
  12. There are certain times when I really like the Mariners.
  13. Mookie will likely be worth his contract over the long haul, due to his performance during the first part of the contract. Even so, those last years are going to be tough to deal with.
  14. It's more about which 9 to play than it is about which order to bat them in.
  15. Workman's 2019 was somewhat fueled by luck. He was bound to regress, though I'm surprised at the degree of his regression.
  16. OMG Jays, what are you doing?
  17. It seems to me that sunscreen plus rosin might be a decent solution?
  18. The Jays have really disappointed me in this Yankees series.
  19. Well deserved day off, for sure. The Sox came through that tough stretch of 17 games pretty well. Some of the wins weren't very pretty, but they were wins nonetheless.
  20. The fact of the matter is, a manager could pull his line up out of a hat every game and barely miss a beat. That's how little difference batting orders make. All of the hand wringing over lineups, myself included, is pretty much for naught.
  21. Verdugo @ $650K is much, much greater than Mookie @ $30M. We should not even be having discussions about Mookie any more. We have Mookie's offense covered by Verdugo and his defense covered by Renfroe.
  22. I am 100% on board with Verdugo leading off. I have been against Kike batting leadoff since Cora first mentioned it in spring training. That said, I trust Cora, and because the team is winning and our offense is pretty good, I have given Cora the benefit of the doubt. If it were up to me, my top 5 would be Verdugo, Bogaerts, Beni (whoops), JD, Devers. I would be okay with switching Verdugo, Bogaerts, JD, and Devers around in any of those 4 spots. I know that Cora likes having the 2-5 guys the way he has them, but I really think having a higher OBP guy leading off would do the team more good than harm, even it it 'weakens' the other line up spots.
  23. I learned how to type on a typewriter as opposed to on a word processor. I still double space after sentence ending punctuation and after colons. I just recently learned that double spacing is no longer necessary, but I guess it's a hard habit to break.
