  1. Possibly, but the same thing has been leveled at them since 2018, and they continue to outsmart financially bigger clubs. They have a young squad and an outstanding new manager. They're in a very good place. Of course, replacing VVD, Salah and Trent all in one summer will take some doing if that's what needs to happen, but they've been mostly excellent since 2018. They are a brilliantly run club. Of course, Henry has next to no involvement in how the club is run, and we don't have a Sam Kennedy at the helm. but the pattern of operation remains the same. Liverpool just has smarter people running it than the Red Sox.
  2. He showed good power in 23. Last year, not so much. Nor 22. And nothing in the admittedly small sample size of previous years. As I mentioned it could be down to age. Maybe he will develop into more of a power bat. but again, we can't divorce it form the fact we'd be telling our best player he's moving off 3rd base and possibly becoming a part time DH. Neither of which he appears to be overly excited about. Hard to argue against a 9 time GG 3rd baseman taking your spot. For Paredes, not so much.
  3. To add to the proof of this - Liverpool has a much smaller payroll than other teams in the EPL and way lower spending threshold, and yet, apart from the odd season, has vastly outperformed the other teams (bar Manchester City who are a juggernaut and managed by possibly the greatest manager to have ever lived). They are routinely held up an ultra smart and brilliantly run football team, defined by their use of data and analytics. They currently have three of their best players running down their contracts. Two of them are two of the best players to have ever played for the club, and the fans cannot understand why they are not signed up already. One is 33, the other is 32, The patterns are the same, they're just having much more success with Liverpool than the Red Sox. And there's still Liverpool fans that want them out of the club (due to not spending enough in their eyes and ticket prices).
  4. Is looking noticeably bigger and stronger apparently.
  5. To a degree. But Henry still owns 40% of the shares. Werner is in second, estimated somewhere between 12 and 15% I believe. Third place is Red Bird Capital with 11% and then a whole host of smaller investors, so it's still very much driven by the top two. And winning is still the biggest way to increase your value which brings with it ever increasing $$$ sponsorships and partnerships. Does anyone really believe they don't care if they win or not? I think it's obvious they want to win, but while being seen as the smartest kid in the room. To me it's their arrogance that is killing us, not their thriftiness.
  6. 22 - 20 HR's in 111 games 23 - 31 Hr's in 143 games 24 - 19 HR's in 153 games. I'm not sure I'm ready to call him a big power option at the moment. He's young, though. and his OPB isn't bad, though it was .300 in 22. The defensive stats I've seen have him around league average, but I may have been wrong/read them without my glasses. Like I said, I don't hate him, in fact I'd be alright with it for the right deal, but I'm not sure he's enough to say to Devers - we're moving you/making part time DH.
  7. Is it? I think the obvious thing is that Henry and others are obsessed with winning through maximum efficiency. They're numbers and stats guys. They want the perfect team at a good price and believe it should be possible. And they have the numbers on their side when it comes to long term/high risk contracts for aging pitchers (and even position players). They're cheaper and more reserved than they should be, but I don't think saving money is their concern. It's outthinking the rest of the league and being seen as smarter. That's what seems to drive them more than anything.
  8. I'm talking against myself as much as anyone else here as I've mentioned a few times they should be more clearer and honest with their talking, but also, there's not a lot more the guy can say. He can't go into too much detail as he's not allowed, and yet fans will attack management for not standing up and being held to account. A lot of the podcast guys are constantly complaining that not enough news is coming out, and that they're not opening themselves to questioning, but really what they're moaning about is - we need more content for our subscribers, please give us more to talk about.
  9. I wouldn't hate Paredes. He's cheap, RH'ed, but low batting average, okay defence, not much power. I'm not sure he's the guy you get to upset Devers.
  10. He's a victim of being a 1 tool player. He can hit a bit. And that's literally it.
  11. We would not be trading Casas in that scenario, but Yoshida if we could. I'm not 100% sure that we're going to do anything about our infield defence regardless. I could put up with it if Alonso was hitting 40+ bombs however. A first 5 of Duran, Devers, Alonso, Casas and Story would do damage. Anyway, all moot now.
  12. I've no problem against either of them. But we've got people simultaneously angry were not spending money and then questioning a short deal to one of the best power hitting righties in the game. I don't get it personally.
  13. So no to the guy that is 2nd only to Judge in HR's since 2019 with an average OPS of 854 on a short contract, but bummed to see Grichuk and Laureano go off the board? I'm genuinely perplexed.
  14. I'm probably on the more cautious side of things as far as deals go. I detest the idea of spending money just to spend it. But if we're saying no to a guy that would sit between Devers and Casas and offer anything from 30 to 50 HR's with his pull power, all because of a compensatory draft pick we're getting back anyway... I'm not sure what people want. The whole point is to get in the play offs and try and win it all.
  15. Depends if your aim/hope is to see the Sox in the playoffs or not this year. Mine is. Alonso gives you a very strong chance of making the play offs which in turns gets us a chance at the ring. I'm perfectly fine expending a compensatory pick for that, especially as we'll be getting one back.
  16. He's been on Masslive again saying the budget is there to spend if the right player comes along. That player was Alonso for the contract he got. Share 1B/DH with Casas, Hit a bag full of HR's and then opt out, or at worst we're only stuck with hm for one more year. You've got your RH power bat, and you're not blocking any prospects. It would have meant another year of Devers at 3rd, but you can't win em all.
  17. There are times when the trades you come up with feel like they're from the mind of a mad man.
  18. Genuine question - don't you think something like this would have already happened if it was possible? Given how little Breslow and Cora seem to rate him? It's not even about just the money. He'd be the same for others as he is to us - a light hitting DH only that's taking up a roster spot. Not much of a market for that. Especially for teams looking to cut payroll.
  19. Yes indeed... not sure of Moon's point here.
  20. Because they wouldn't save the money they would want, unless you think they're desperately trying to trade Arenado to only get (a smallish) part of him off their books. How does DFAing Yoshida then save them money?
  21. While I hope (and expect) we get our pick for Pivetta, I wouldn't be against him coming back on a reasonable contract as long as it is solely in the bullpen.
  22. I like to think the fanbase can be counted on to come in earlier than that. I see the fanbase in general as the embodiment of the Bastards of Boston podcast.
  23. There's zero chance the Cardinals are taking on Yoshida's contract, or even most of it. If that isn't obvious to you by now, I've got some cracking magic beans you may be interested in. If we could get Arenado with the Cards eating a chunk of his salary, and then somehow catch one of the GM's high on crack and willing to take on most of Yoshida's, which meant standing pat with Arenado on the team rather than Yoshida, I'd be happy. I'm fed up of the quite laughable defence we've put up the past couple of years, and it's just a better fit for our roster. But the issue is Yoshi is a tough trade on a sunny day, never mind when he's still out after shoulder surgery.
  24. Yeah, I agree. He's the biggest (and loudest) advocate against a signing window in the winter too. Which I can't help but feel the sport would benefit hugely from, by having everyone's eyes on it during that period. Not to mention it would be fun! The downside of course is that we as a fan base would have a lot more time to then be furious with our ownership.
