  1. From the other thread....
  2. Yeah the Yoshida signing really was a bad one and has and is hampering us constantly. I live in hope we can move him.
  3. Dodgers are deferring two 0's to another deal.
  4. Casas is bad at 1st base. Devers is terrible at 3rd. Cant get much worse by standing pat.
  5. Yes, I think so, too. He's well connected and alongside McAdams and Speier is one of the only ones I really trust. He's also called Bres out a couple of times for pretending that they aren't trying to move Casas. I'm really happy with Bres' work so far. But, yeah, big two months coming up. Apparently we beat out the top offer for Martin but he wanted to move closer to home.
  6. We do seem to be very active in trade talks, over say the free agent market. Cotillo mentioned on a pod the other day, we've all but signed out of the free agent market (pen arms aside) but are very active on trade talks. There does feel like there might be something in this. Casas leaving would have to bring back something tasty however, as well as a large chunk or Arenado's contract paid down. I've zero idea about what the Cards have that would be enticing.
  7. Do you see Fried as best of the best? Maybe I'm being harsh on him, but I do not think he's anywhere near that tag.
  8. Concerning trends on his O however. Not sure of the trends on his D. He's not a guy I want to see us give out 6/7 year contracts to. Especially to play 2B and leaving Devers stink the place out on 3rd. This is what it comes down to for me really, we're all rightly complaining about the FO not spending, but there are so few options I actually want us to spend on. It gives them a get out of jail free card I know, but I don't want to see us spend just to prove they will spend. I think that's why we have seemingly been very busy in trade discussions.
  9. Harsh on Grissom after being injured for such large parts. This year is the one that'll show he is either good enough or isn't. I still hold up hope.
  10. This is true. It's mostly just a feeling to be honest. And I am talking position players. It just feels like a lot of underwhelming players available, especially at the prices they're projected for,
  11. I agree with that, which is why I don't think we've been able to move him for young pitching.
  12. Which is the same for all the free agent position players. Teoscar felt like a natural and obvious fit, but apart from that, I'm not for us spending big on anyone else (Soto excluded of course).
  13. With all speculation like this, I pay it little to no attention as we don't know what is and isn't true.
  14. I said if you take away the starting pitching. Clearly there were several options there, and I'm very happy with the way it has worked out for us and the moves we made. The position players in particular seem a pretty undesirable bunch in the main this year.
  15. Agreed, but I can totally see why they don't want a guy just sitting there making $15m for the next few years and instead saying - make it work or find a way to trade him.
  16. On the topic of adding, I've ben thinking this a lot over the holidays, doesn't this feel like a pretty bad FA year? Take away the starting pitching in which we've improved so done our bot without giving out 8 year contracts, and Soto on which we tried, but ultimately had no chance with, you're left with Teoscar as an exciting option. Mostly everyone else I would not want to be giving out long term contracts with the exception of on or two of the relivers. And even then I'm not overly in favour of doing it. The position players in particular were a poor bunch.
  17. That's fair, but they're older and declining. Cass has fairly high value now, and you're only getting his bat. And zany personality.
  18. I think both these are fair, while saying it was highly likely the management of the payroll was the biggest factor. This is why I hate judging GM's. You can never judge them solely on their time in the job, What they took over, what they left behind, often gets overlooked. DD did a lot of good and bad. So did Bloom. And Ben, and every other GM (well, not every). Though I will never forgive Bloom for those two consecutive trade deadlines f*** ups.
  19. I think this is why we aren't signing anyone else. The Yoshida contract above all else handcuffs on the DH/moving Devers to 3rd issue. Unless we can move Casas which it appears we've been trying to do all fall/winter so far, But this looks unlikely too. The idea of another year of Devers at 3rd is painful.
  20. Depends on his performance. If he bangs 30/40 HRs and stays on the field, he'll have plenty of value. My worry is he'll have another half a season out with one thing or another, which will kill his value.
  21. I agree with MVP and Notin that it was one of the major factors, but Bell is right, there was a lot of talk about there being a falling out/DD being hard to work with at the time. That might all be bull/planted of course, but there was definitely smoke in that direction around the time of his sacking.
  22. There was a period where he sat on the bench whilst healthy (against right or left handers) and didn't start a game. To the point where your usual reporters like Cotillo and Speirs were making a big deal of it on Twitter and bringing it up in press conferences with Cora - to which he seemed to get a bit annoyed by the questions. I remember thinking at the time - he really doesn't like the guy. I'd be amazed if we put him in AAA. That's any trade value gone.
  23. You can only DH him (which is why we haven't made moves from Bregman or Arenado I imagine, as Devers would become a full time DH), as Cora flat out refuses to play him in the field. He flat out refused to play him even at DH last year on several occasions, even when it seemed an obvious choice. He really doesn't seem to like/rate him.
  24. I would imagine they'll be on the same page from the outset. If that page is 2nd baseman it'll be deeply annoying.
