    The Bregman show seems likely to come to a close in the next few days. From most reports it's down to the Cubs, Tigers or us. Hitters don't tend to like Comercia Park, so maybe that removes them from the equation, all things being equal. Maybe that's not much of factor. There are also several reports coming out from the Cardinals journos that the Arenado deal is done and in place (with us as his 3rd choice behind LAD and NYY). With disputed arguments about whether it is reliant on Bregman or not. A Boston source has apparently said the deal is in place, and not Bregman reliant. Hints that it is about Casas going the other way with not much salary heading our way and an additional player to be added which is holding things up a little. There's no way in the world I see us singing both Arenado and Bregman. I'm finding it hard enough to believe in Bregman, but either way, it feels like both are coming to a closure soon.

    Got ya. Sorry, didn't see that on my phone. If people genuinely think it's option 2, they've done a bigger number on this fan base with their mistakes than I imagined.

    Okay but that has nothing to do with my question to Moon. We're all under agreement that they should be spending more.

    I wouldn't stretch to playoff favourites, but it would certainly put us in the mix, and you'd think, in the playoffs at least.

    You've missed my point. I'm not commenting on whether you believe they are dumb or not (surely only a fool would answer yes), my point is you're saying that they are actively sitting there, gleeful over the fact they're spending less while getting fans to come along and watch an inferior product. What do you think is more likely - They have been making bad decisions and taking wrong turns while thinking they're edging towards the way they believe is the right way? They are twiddling their thumbs and laughing evilly to the sky because the fans have yet to see (not true in itself) that they are hoodwinking them?

    Do you really believe that? I mean, really? Come on now.

    There's little evidence of it in recent times that for sure.

    I'm not sure you understood my point if you want me to give a personal summation on if they're smart people or not.

    That's been my suspicion for a while. Boras is desperately trying anything not to let down another client who turned down a large pre-free agency offer in terms of testing the market.

    What's Bregman's projected WAR? 4, or something around there? Yeah, likely still shy on his own. Another reliever on top would be nice.

    The frustrating thing is, we have the feel of a team that's maybe just one big move away from a 90+ team.

    Fair, but the Soto scenario shows they will go very big if they think the value is there. I think there's a tendency to paint them as cheap, for cheap's sake. But they're arrogant. That's their real downfall, this ingrained belief that they can outthink the rest of the league. With little to no evidence to back it up.

    Worse than I thought, then. Not a move that makes sense, especially without great defence.

    I don't imagine there's many bashful billionaires.

    Possibly, but the same thing has been leveled at them since 2018, and they continue to outsmart financially bigger clubs. They have a young squad and an outstanding new manager. They're in a very good place. Of course, replacing VVD, Salah and Trent all in one summer will take some doing if that's what needs to happen, but they've been mostly excellent since 2018. They are a brilliantly run club. Of course, Henry has next to no involvement in how the club is run, and we don't have a Sam Kennedy at the helm. but the pattern of operation remains the same. Liverpool just has smarter people running it than the Red Sox.

    He showed good power in 23. Last year, not so much. Nor 22. And nothing in the admittedly small sample size of previous years. As I mentioned it could be down to age. Maybe he will develop into more of a power bat. but again, we can't divorce it form the fact we'd be telling our best player he's moving off 3rd base and possibly becoming a part time DH. Neither of which he appears to be overly excited about. Hard to argue against a 9 time GG 3rd baseman taking your spot. For Paredes, not so much.

    To add to the proof of this - Liverpool has a much smaller payroll than other teams in the EPL and way lower spending threshold, and yet, apart from the odd season, has vastly outperformed the other teams (bar Manchester City who are a juggernaut and managed by possibly the greatest manager to have ever lived). They are routinely held up an ultra smart and brilliantly run football team, defined by their use of data and analytics. They currently have three of their best players running down their contracts. Two of them are two of the best players to have ever played for the club, and the fans cannot understand why they are not signed up already. One is 33, the other is 32, The patterns are the same, they're just having much more success with Liverpool than the Red Sox. And there's still Liverpool fans that want them out of the club (due to not spending enough in their eyes and ticket prices).

    Is looking noticeably bigger and stronger apparently.

    To a degree. But Henry still owns 40% of the shares. Werner is in second, estimated somewhere between 12 and 15% I believe. Third place is Red Bird Capital with 11% and then a whole host of smaller investors, so it's still very much driven by the top two. And winning is still the biggest way to increase your value which brings with it ever increasing $$$ sponsorships and partnerships. Does anyone really believe they don't care if they win or not? I think it's obvious they want to win, but while being seen as the smartest kid in the room. To me it's their arrogance that is killing us, not their thriftiness.

    22 - 20 HR's in 111 games 23 - 31 Hr's in 143 games 24 - 19 HR's in 153 games. I'm not sure I'm ready to call him a big power option at the moment. He's young, though. and his OPB isn't bad, though it was .300 in 22. The defensive stats I've seen have him around league average, but I may have been wrong/read them without my glasses. Like I said, I don't hate him, in fact I'd be alright with it for the right deal, but I'm not sure he's enough to say to Devers - we're moving you/making part time DH.

    Is it? I think the obvious thing is that Henry and others are obsessed with winning through maximum efficiency. They're numbers and stats guys. They want the perfect team at a good price and believe it should be possible. And they have the numbers on their side when it comes to long term/high risk contracts for aging pitchers (and even position players). They're cheaper and more reserved than they should be, but I don't think saving money is their concern. It's outthinking the rest of the league and being seen as smarter. That's what seems to drive them more than anything.

    I'm talking against myself as much as anyone else here as I've mentioned a few times they should be more clearer and honest with their talking, but also, there's not a lot more the guy can say. He can't go into too much detail as he's not allowed, and yet fans will attack management for not standing up and being held to account. A lot of the podcast guys are constantly complaining that not enough news is coming out, and that they're not opening themselves to questioning, but really what they're moaning about is - we need more content for our subscribers, please give us more to talk about.

    I wouldn't hate Paredes. He's cheap, RH'ed, but low batting average, okay defence, not much power. I'm not sure he's the guy you get to upset Devers.

    He's a victim of being a 1 tool player. He can hit a bit. And that's literally it.
