    11th biggest payroll is middle third. I wonder how our dead money total compares with the dead money total for other teams. If we have more than most then it’s a matter of spending money wisely more than spending a lot of money.

    It’s not really about this year. This is another last place team. If we want Bello to contribute in a couple of years when (hopefully) the team is relevant again he needs to get demoted so he can get his act together against inferior hitters.

    I live out here near SF. So I was able to read stories about him in the local newspapers. Apparently he’s a real ass. Rude. Arrogant.

    I didn’t foresee it. But I watched the game he pitched and when you are always dealing with 2 runners on base you’re going to need to be lucky. To his credit he didn’t implode but pitchers with a high WHIP tend to give up a lot of runs. Hopefully he’ll get his act together. He certainly has the talent to do it.

    I think OPS+ is better because some ballparks are hitters parks and some aren’t. OPS+ corrects for that. For example the parks the A’s play in has a lot of foul territory resulting in more foul ball outs. I think you have to look at all the stats. But no one stat tells you everything.
