    As the winter drew to a close nearly everyone thought that this team needed help offensively. Most felt that we had a glut of outfielders. Who said we should “give away” anyone? Yoshida up until this year wasn’t giving us much of anything. The right move would have been to package him with some prospects then upgrade to a bona fide HR hitter-like Alonso but not necessarily him. Looking at the composition of the team on opening day I think it’s fair to say that most experts thought we needed to do more over the winter. And we could have if the money was made available. Remember: we were 23rd in percentage of revenue spent on salaries. The money was there.

    Sure Joe. Keep dreaming. For the right money Alonso would have done whatever was required. That’s the way it works in baseball-almost always. It’s a business.

    For the eleven millionth time Alonso could have replaced Masa making Duran a bench player and Alonso a DH. There was also a lot of talk over the winter about trading an OF. This could easily have been done, but for the fact that the owner was too cheap to do it.

    Alonso as DH instead of Yoshida.. that would have given our lineup more thump.

    Absolutely! Contreras has been excellent. I think the right move over the winter was to add Alonso and find a way to get rid of Masa. Now Masa has been decent but a RH power hitter would have been an upgrade.
