  1. It would be in his best interest if JD became a serviceable first baseman. The Sox have a need, and it would open up the market for him next year when his opt out comes up again. Remember the Sox won a championship with Napoli at 1B.
  2. Rumors starting to float around that the Rangers could be interested in Price as they look for pitching to open their new ballpark. Don’t forget the “Great Punto trade” that gave us 2013. The Sox hired CB because he thinks outside the box. Don’t know what else would be needed for a trade to happen, but you need to explore.
  3. If CB does anything he needs to fix the Sox ability to draft and groom their own starting pitching. Sox wouldn’t be in the mess they are in if they could do that.
  4. Will miss Holt, but he priced himself out of Boston. You can’t pay him what he is going to get unless he is your everyday second baseman. He isn’t a starting 2B. You have cheaper options with Hernández and Chavis. Moreland had his moments, but I think Sox will give Dalbec a chance. Porcello gives you innings, but I can’t see beating the top teams any more. All are probably gone because of the soft 208 mandate.
  5. An the Yankees need another infielder because? They already have tough decisions to make with so many bodies in the infield. Didi and Andújar in particular. On the other hand It would be great to see them bring more more bats and ignore their hole with the starting pitching.
  6. If JD opt out that will open the door for keeping Mookie, but JBJ’s salary will be needed to do so. They try to get what ever they can for him. If the long term plan is not keeping Betts then maybe JBJ will remain in center for 2020. The Sox seem to be high on Duran and Wilson, and Benny is always an option in center. You need to look at the Sox payroll like a puzzle that needs to hit the 208 soft mandate.
  7. Bush hired as pitching coach. In reality it doesn’t matter who they hired if Sale, Price, And Eovaldi aren’t healthy next year.
  8. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a couple starting pitchers that pitched in the high minors waiting to crack the 2020 rotation? There is something to be said about producing your own starting pitchers.
  9. JD’s decision on the 4th will dictate how CB and the Sox front office proceeds this hot stove season. Either way there will be a lot of roster changes compared to last off season. I think the 208 is more of a mandate then is being shown. Because of that there is no way JD and Mookie are back unless one of the SPs is moved.
  10. That would signal a total rebuild and that JD opted out and Mookie was traded. End result, a long summer of 2020.
  11. It will be interesting to see how much $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ the Yanks will throw at Cole to get him to go to NY?
  12. JD opt out is the only way the Sox have of keeping Mookie.
  13. Had to be done. What a waste. He could have been a innings eater, but does clear a spot on the 40 man.
  14. If the starting pitching is not healthy then it will be another long summer. Sale has to be Sale, Price ( if they could move him that would be great, but I don’t see it) has to give them more innings, and with the emergence of ERod NE just needs to be a productive 4 or 5.
  15. That was the start of a run of four titles in 15 years. The greatest comeback in sports history. As KM said, don’t let us win tonight . . .
  16. I agree. It is beginning to sound like it will be an internal hire. Now we know DD was not on board with the whole get the payroll below $208m and that is why he was gone so quickly. Any internal hire already knows what the mandate is when they take the job.
  17. Joc Peterson is a platoon guy with the Dodgers. He generally is not in the lineup against left handlers. How would would his swing fare in Fenway? Can he hit the ball the other way and take advantage of the monster? Or does his hrs die on the warning track in Fenway? I don’t know if he would be an every day guy. You would have to find a right handed bat to pair with him in RF. A lot would also depend on who else you get with him. If a controllable starter was part of the package.
  18. JBJ could be buried in a lineup that has JD and Betts in it. They still scored a ton of runs and his glove could save some. JD opts out and Betts gets traded then the long stretches of not hitting are harder to hide. I’m a big JBJ fan, but it is frustrating watching him hit. The 11 or 12 million they would have to pay him is something that needs to be looked at real hard.
  19. It is not Cora’s fault that the starting pitching sh$# the bed this year. Other then ERod the starting pitching was terrible or hurt.
  20. I would not think about signing Puig. Castellanos is a poor man’s JDM. He would be an adventure in the outfield and not provide the same hitting. If lowering the payroll is a priority then Benny will not get traded. He has proven he can play in Boston, so 2019 was just an off year. He tried to bulk up and that hurt him. Still a solid glove, and still hit a lot of doubles. He could have a breakout next year like Devers did this year. He can also play center if JBJ is traded. Unless they are blown away he is not going anywhere.
  21. The Yankees lose! You can not win without starting pitching. Guys that can give you 6 or 7 solid innings.
  22. I think what JD does may determine the course that the Sox take with Mookie. So it’s hard to make a class just yet. You also have think about the health of Sale and Price. If there is any doubt about their health in 2020 then the Sox are not contending and I would start the reset.
  23. Amen to that! Remember we have two favorite teams, the Sox and who ever is playing the Yankees. Happy YED!
  24. YED is one of my favorite days of the year!
  25. Ellsbury as well! Mike Stanton not the only dead money yanks eat.
