  1. He’s probably a long way from a finished product but he is big kid with a powerful arm. I’ve been really impressed with him and his command of the strike zone.
  2. When Crochet pitches, I watch. When Dobbins pitches, I watch. Guess I’m not much of a fan oh well.
  3. Anyone who has watched Dobbins pitch this year has to be impressed.
  4. Hunter Dobbins is good right now and he has the potential to be much better. If they choose to never let this kid could pitch to a lineup that third time through, we never get to see whether he can or not. 60 and a few pitches just wasn’t enough. I’d also like to see him throw that fastball a little more often.
  5. There is as much chance for Cora to get Devers to do anything other than what he is currently doing as there is for him to get Duran to take a day off.
  6. Sorry but is beginning to look like maybe this kid was brought up too quickly. he was promoted over the top of Mayer. Mayer may struggle as well going forward but he is a competent fielder who certainly helps our team’s defense. Many of this team’s managerial decisions are and continue to be puzzling to me.
  7. Cora’s comments made me sick. He is their coach? In the world I grew up in, played in and coached in, the coach is responsible for the massive mental errors that a team makes. Who else gets the blame for a total lack of fundamental baseball being played? Devers to third, Mayer to second (only because Story has to be handled softly), Masa to dh would give us a contact competent bat that we need in the lineup.
  8. The firing of Dombrowski was a huge huge error in judgement. In him, we had a seasoned competent GM. A proven winner. The massive rebuild that we have embarked on since his firing is a proven massive failure at this point in time.
  9. Totally agree. It’s the old clout or an out theory. Dave kingman deluxe. I hate this and the metrics that support it.
  10. Kind of sounds like the easy way out to me. Gathering information to help making any decision is worthwhile but I still think going on your instincts every now and then works.
  11. Great minds think alike you think? Probably not.
  12. I’m going to go the complaining route. Gives me something to do. Our big guy going 112 today? So obviously something changed since his last start. He got a lot stronger. There is 0 rhyme or reason to what is going on. Maybe panic mode is setting in? I think that it makes more sense than they are coming to their senses.
  13. I agree so why the ridiculously low pitch counts for most of the rotation?
  14. Have to admit I am pretty happy with our current starters right now. Obviously I don’t really have much of a clue about the world of modern metrics. It clutters my mind. But what it looks like to me is it is kind of like me saying that ERA is a very important stat. I still like it but I realize there are many more efficient ways to rate and rank pitchers. If you eliminate the bums of the month and just focus on the current starters, I like them. Young, strong, and pretty competitive. I just wish once again that the pitch count numbers were still at least at 100 and not 85. Oh well.
  15. Yes he did cut up those jersies when he was in Chicago. I understand your comment though. I just think that this team is young and with Bregman down, they need strong leadership of the player on the field variety. That is what I think people like Sale provided. But hey I’m the same guy who wanted to keep both Sale and Dombrowski in Boston.
  16. Crochette, Giolitto, Dobbins, Bello, Fitts - what is it that they as starters have done that you don’t like? These guys can pitch. We’ll never know how well as long as they are restricted by ridiculous pitch count numbers.
  17. In losing Chris Sale, we lost something that might be even more important than a players ability - leadership. This team very much lacks leadership.
  18. I think that we have plenty of starting pitching. We have to let them pitch. Dobbins, Fitts, Giolito, Bello, Crochette, etc. Let them pitch. Pitch count phobia will drive you crazy. Or the alternative which would be a strict pitch count limit that will take them right to last place.
  19. Once again, a starting pitcher pulled early. 77 pitches! Ridiculous. Young, strong, and fairly fit arms. No one should ever complain about one our starters not being able to pitch 6 innings of baseball. In many cases they just aren’t being given the opportunity.
  20. I hope he does as well. The bigger picture for me is that you have the #1 prospect in baseball playing in Worcester. He has nothing left to prove and deserves to be brought up. It’s up to the Sox to decide how he should be used . they do need to figure it out. I think that they totally blew the Devers situation. I really don’t have a lot of confidence that they can figure it out but I think Anthony needs to get a chance as soon as yesterday.
  21. I’m glad that there are people who care about the metrics used in the game. I think that they are important for sure. I’ve watched only 2/3 of the games. Some I’ve had to listen to. With Bergman down, Duran is one of if not their best player.
  22. My opinion is that arguably their best player - Duran - isn’t going anywhere until he wants too. He is going to play everyday because that is who is and what old school ballplayers expected to do. He is the type of player that fans want to see. He isn’t going to be platooned. Eventually they will be forced to bring up the guy that should be in that outfield. He would be my left fielder and maybe do a little mix and match with Abreau. Rafaela would still get his opportunities just not that many. He could see some infield action as well I guess. Tough decisions are going to have to be made. They aren’t easy to make and this team’s management doesn’t really like to make them.
  23. I don’t see that they have much to lose here by bringing Anthony up and playing him. If he produces like he very possibly will, Rafaela either moves to the infield or becomes another defensive specialist. As for the pitching, with the current Red Sox approach, I’m not sure you are going to find many blue chippers who can go 6,7, or deeper on an 85 pitch limit. Unless something changes, they are a .500 team at best.
