  1. I’m not sure how I feel about a number of things relating to this team from Cora to Duran etc. With respect to Cora, I only can make a personal judgement by what I see on the field. He looks at best mediocre to me at what he does. Duran has always been a favorite of mine but If he isn’t making contact with the baseball and getting on base, he is just not as valuable as he could be. I don’t need everybody to try to hit the ball out of the park. I find myself getting excited when some of our guys hit a foul ball these days and that includes Duran.
  2. This is exactly how I see it. It seems like a majority of ML hitters have adopted the Dave Kingman approach of it’s a clout or an out. Every swing is a full out blast even if your body says you shouldn’t be doing it. I also agree that certainly in my case it has made the game much less enjoyable.
  3. It just continues to look like an accident to me when Story makes contact. I don’t care about his home runs, I just want to see him and others make contact and put the ball in play. When and why did baseball seem to move away from this novel concept? Just hit it! Put the ball in play.
  4. I understand and agree with you about how hard it is to hit a baseball but there have been many great hitters who were “see ball hit ball” kinds of hitters. For instance if Wade Boggs wanted to be a home run guy first hitter, what do you think 30 a year? This team needs runners on base not big time guessers trying to knock everything out of the park.
  5. I like to see Campbell back as well, but the big question is where does he play. On this current team, first base looks like the only option for him to be out there everyday.
  6. I do think that Story probably would do what the team asked him to do. I think that Cora would be unwilling to ask him. I think that that is ridiculous of course but I don’t think that he would risk potentially go down that ugly road again.
  7. As long as Story is on the roster and as long as Cora is the team’s manager, I’m betting (99%) that Story stays at short. Mayer will go to second and unless Campbell works out hard at first base, there will no place for him to be an everyday player.
  8. Your post pretty much sums up my feelings. I’ve been a fan since 1955, so I’m pretty sure that I’ll be one forever. I also would far prefer to watch the kids learn on the job understanding that there will be struggles. I hate watching the same poor performances over and over. The mistakes this team makes running the bases coupled with all of the errors makes me sick. It’s really poor baseball. Watching Beuhler last was extremely painful. I don’t care how over worked the bullpen might have been, personally I would have got him out of the game. The running errors by both Duran and Toro did it for me last night . I couldn’t take anymore. I’m ready for something new and I think that it has to start at the top. Everyone keeps talking about acquiring some decent free agents. Are there any decent ones out there who would even want to come to Boston without being grossly overpaid? Who’s signing up to join this crap show?
  9. Slightly south of a kijilion but for sure most have.
  10. I agree - priority in both the infield and the outfield is supposed to be taught at a very young age. That fly ball was all Duran’s. He says he called for it which got think he did. It’s a really noisy place to play. We have an inexperienced third baseman for sure at the ml level playing third base. Eaton is a great athlete for sure but that was Duran’s.
  11. I’ve said right along that as long as we have Story on our roster, he will be our shortstop. The clearly logical move for when Bergman returns is for Mayer to be our second baseman.
  12. I love the way this kid pitches. This is sad news but not the end of the world. He has all of the makings of a solid starting pitcher going forward.
  13. I get all of the righty lefty stuff with respect to hitting but having Mayer on the bench definitely affects the defense. Pick your poison I guess. I’ve never liked the way that Cora tends to deal with too many players trying to play too many different positions. You want better infield defense, Mayer needs to be on the field.
  14. Story I think will be our ss as long as he is here. He is doing a decent job currently. Mayer should go to second. The last thing this team needs right now is another crisis over trying to move a veteran to another position needlessly. Moving Mayer to second is quick and easy and obviously upgrades the defense at second.
  15. Letting Sale go regardless of whether he was injured or not, was a mistake that I stated when it happened and will say it again.
  16. As long as we have Bregman and Story on the roster, Campbell won’t see much second base action.
  17. I’ve been very impressed with Dobbins from the start. Big, strong, young, and a strike thrower. They will all pitch a stinker from time to time, but I think that he has the potential to be better than anyone not named Crochet on this staff. Overall got to say that outside of Beuhler, I’ve been fairly impressed with our starters.
  18. It would make sense to have him play first - maybe too much sense. When Bregman comes back, his chances of playing second again might be the classic slim and none.
  19. Sending Campbell down was a rational move for both the Sox and for him. He goes down gets plenty of swing and maybe even makes a few adjustments with his swing. Mayer is for real and we need to find out what Anthony has. I think any number of guys on this team would profit by thinking about the rare concept of just introducing the bat to the ball in an effort to just get runners on base and cut down on strikeouts. I wouldn’t want Campbell to sit on Boston’s bench when he can get the needed playing time in Worcester.
  20. I’m not sure if I’m one your 3 but I absolutely hated seeing Sale leave as well as Dombrowski. Chris Sale continues to be the kind of player that every team needs on their roster. His injuries never affected what I thought of him. We are forturnant that we another gritty top of the rotation guy to replace him.
  21. Agree - I’ve always been a big Houk fan, but he is at best an end of the rotation piece in my mind. Long relief in my mind. I would say the same thing about Crawford but I do think that Houk is the better of the two.
  22. I love how both Anthony and Mayer approach hitting. I agree with you about Anthony. I would not even think about platooning either one of these guys right now. They need to both be given long leashes. They both should be used daily whether they are facing a lefty or righty. We won’t know how good they can be until they are given a chance. All I’ve heard about Bregman is that he is ahead of schedule and might be back before the AS break. Mayer has proven his ability to field at this level at multiple positions. Going forward, looks like he is going to be our next ss but when Bergman comes back, I’d pencil Mayer right in at second base. Campbell I just don’t think is ready yet but I hope he proves me wrong.
  23. I like this. No two athletes or players are exactly alike. The need to understand how to motivate them, comes with the need to understand who they are. As a coach, you might have to treat them differently but the overall same result is what you are trying to achieve. When nothing seems to work, you need to make a change and sometimes the change can be drastic but for the greater good. Looks like Devers had to go.
