  1. Great minds think alike you think? Probably not.
  2. I’m going to go the complaining route. Gives me something to do. Our big guy going 112 today? So obviously something changed since his last start. He got a lot stronger. There is 0 rhyme or reason to what is going on. Maybe panic mode is setting in? I think that it makes more sense than they are coming to their senses.
  3. I agree so why the ridiculously low pitch counts for most of the rotation?
  4. Have to admit I am pretty happy with our current starters right now. Obviously I don’t really have much of a clue about the world of modern metrics. It clutters my mind. But what it looks like to me is it is kind of like me saying that ERA is a very important stat. I still like it but I realize there are many more efficient ways to rate and rank pitchers. If you eliminate the bums of the month and just focus on the current starters, I like them. Young, strong, and pretty competitive. I just wish once again that the pitch count numbers were still at least at 100 and not 85. Oh well.
  5. Yes he did cut up those jersies when he was in Chicago. I understand your comment though. I just think that this team is young and with Bregman down, they need strong leadership of the player on the field variety. That is what I think people like Sale provided. But hey I’m the same guy who wanted to keep both Sale and Dombrowski in Boston.
  6. Crochette, Giolitto, Dobbins, Bello, Fitts - what is it that they as starters have done that you don’t like? These guys can pitch. We’ll never know how well as long as they are restricted by ridiculous pitch count numbers.
  7. In losing Chris Sale, we lost something that might be even more important than a players ability - leadership. This team very much lacks leadership.
  8. I think that we have plenty of starting pitching. We have to let them pitch. Dobbins, Fitts, Giolito, Bello, Crochette, etc. Let them pitch. Pitch count phobia will drive you crazy. Or the alternative which would be a strict pitch count limit that will take them right to last place.
  9. Once again, a starting pitcher pulled early. 77 pitches! Ridiculous. Young, strong, and fairly fit arms. No one should ever complain about one our starters not being able to pitch 6 innings of baseball. In many cases they just aren’t being given the opportunity.
  10. I hope he does as well. The bigger picture for me is that you have the #1 prospect in baseball playing in Worcester. He has nothing left to prove and deserves to be brought up. It’s up to the Sox to decide how he should be used . they do need to figure it out. I think that they totally blew the Devers situation. I really don’t have a lot of confidence that they can figure it out but I think Anthony needs to get a chance as soon as yesterday.
  11. I’m glad that there are people who care about the metrics used in the game. I think that they are important for sure. I’ve watched only 2/3 of the games. Some I’ve had to listen to. With Bergman down, Duran is one of if not their best player.
  12. My opinion is that arguably their best player - Duran - isn’t going anywhere until he wants too. He is going to play everyday because that is who is and what old school ballplayers expected to do. He is the type of player that fans want to see. He isn’t going to be platooned. Eventually they will be forced to bring up the guy that should be in that outfield. He would be my left fielder and maybe do a little mix and match with Abreau. Rafaela would still get his opportunities just not that many. He could see some infield action as well I guess. Tough decisions are going to have to be made. They aren’t easy to make and this team’s management doesn’t really like to make them.
  13. I don’t see that they have much to lose here by bringing Anthony up and playing him. If he produces like he very possibly will, Rafaela either moves to the infield or becomes another defensive specialist. As for the pitching, with the current Red Sox approach, I’m not sure you are going to find many blue chippers who can go 6,7, or deeper on an 85 pitch limit. Unless something changes, they are a .500 team at best.
  14. Roman Anthony has 0 left to prove in Worcester. He can hit, he can run and he can field. Left haded batter or not, he needs to be up and playing. Rafaela is for sure a very good fielder but swinging for the fences doesn’t seem to be working too well for him. We’ve been down this road before with JBJ. Great fielder no bat. We need run producers and I think that it is time to at least try something a little different. Oh yes and while I’m at it how about giving your starters a legit chance to at least get you six. 85 pitches every five or six days seems to be a little light to me.
  15. Very sadly, I think that this is true. I will say though that if your starters aren’t prepared to throw 100 pitches, no one should ever complain about them not being able to get through 6 innings nor should anyone ever even mention a bullpen being over taxed. It makes me think that inning eaters like Giolito and dare i say Nick Pivetta are much undervalued.
  16. I’m not going to disagree with you or anyone else and I do understand the point. But I think this team babies big strong young players. Maybe it is time to think about breaking these pitch count barriers that I think have to some extent have limited some really good strong young arms. I understand the philosophy . I just don’t like it.
  17. So in the first game today, which yes we did win, we started a journeyman aaa player at first (who did hit a HR), a utility player at both second and third, and a ss who hasn’t hit a lick. You have a young Grissom who hasn’t been playing first in Worcester. What is the plan for him? And this team under Cora’s leadership is renowned for playing people out of position. Wong has played second and first as well. When someone tries to convince me that an infielder by trade needs 2 weeks to learn how to play first base, I ain’t buying it. If you aren’t going to use Campbell at first until someone thinks he is ready, what do you suppose the plan is for one of our best potential hitters in Roman Anthony might be? I’m a reasonably frustrated fan.
  18. I don’t mind being corrected but I listened to a good part of the first game today. Looks to me like Dobbins, who I happen to like a great deal, got them in to the 5th inning. He gave what a single and a double then got the hook. 77 pitches deep. This whole concept of a pitcher not being able to make it through a lineup 3 times makes me sick. If they are going to continue pulling big strong young pitchers like Dobbins after 77 pitches, just don’t cry about how over worked the bullpen is.
  19. So Campbell was brought up to play second base. He gets a few days off due to the fact that he is struggling at the plate. When he comes back, he goes to center field. Once again, I don’t get the move. He should be at first base yesterday and Mayer should be playing either second or short. Something different has to be tried.
  20. 85 pitches out of Crochet was ridiculous at this time. They are all important games and he is a horse. It seems like a philosophical move based on analytics to me. It was planned and scheduled much like days off to players whether they happen to be hot or not.
  21. At 9 games over .500, this team is performing better at this point than anybody thought that they would. why mess with the mojo? What they will have to deal with sooner or later is that with respect to positional play, there won't be enough positions to use the young talent that they seem to have. They have had this problem before.
  22. Of course he can. As long as he stays in the game and on the field somewhere. Not sure when it happened last in mlb though.
  23. I agree with this for sure. He provides something very important and the bottom line for me is that he doing what he is doing at the big league level.
