  1. Roman Anthony has 0 left to prove in Worcester. He can hit, he can run and he can field. Left haded batter or not, he needs to be up and playing. Rafaela is for sure a very good fielder but swinging for the fences doesn’t seem to be working too well for him. We’ve been down this road before with JBJ. Great fielder no bat. We need run producers and I think that it is time to at least try something a little different. Oh yes and while I’m at it how about giving your starters a legit chance to at least get you six. 85 pitches every five or six days seems to be a little light to me.
  2. Very sadly, I think that this is true. I will say though that if your starters aren’t prepared to throw 100 pitches, no one should ever complain about them not being able to get through 6 innings nor should anyone ever even mention a bullpen being over taxed. It makes me think that inning eaters like Giolito and dare i say Nick Pivetta are much undervalued.
  3. I’m not going to disagree with you or anyone else and I do understand the point. But I think this team babies big strong young players. Maybe it is time to think about breaking these pitch count barriers that I think have to some extent have limited some really good strong young arms. I understand the philosophy . I just don’t like it.
  4. So in the first game today, which yes we did win, we started a journeyman aaa player at first (who did hit a HR), a utility player at both second and third, and a ss who hasn’t hit a lick. You have a young Grissom who hasn’t been playing first in Worcester. What is the plan for him? And this team under Cora’s leadership is renowned for playing people out of position. Wong has played second and first as well. When someone tries to convince me that an infielder by trade needs 2 weeks to learn how to play first base, I ain’t buying it. If you aren’t going to use Campbell at first until someone thinks he is ready, what do you suppose the plan is for one of our best potential hitters in Roman Anthony might be? I’m a reasonably frustrated fan.
  5. I don’t mind being corrected but I listened to a good part of the first game today. Looks to me like Dobbins, who I happen to like a great deal, got them in to the 5th inning. He gave what a single and a double then got the hook. 77 pitches deep. This whole concept of a pitcher not being able to make it through a lineup 3 times makes me sick. If they are going to continue pulling big strong young pitchers like Dobbins after 77 pitches, just don’t cry about how over worked the bullpen is.
  6. So Campbell was brought up to play second base. He gets a few days off due to the fact that he is struggling at the plate. When he comes back, he goes to center field. Once again, I don’t get the move. He should be at first base yesterday and Mayer should be playing either second or short. Something different has to be tried.
  7. 85 pitches out of Crochet was ridiculous at this time. They are all important games and he is a horse. It seems like a philosophical move based on analytics to me. It was planned and scheduled much like days off to players whether they happen to be hot or not.
  8. At 9 games over .500, this team is performing better at this point than anybody thought that they would. why mess with the mojo? What they will have to deal with sooner or later is that with respect to positional play, there won't be enough positions to use the young talent that they seem to have. They have had this problem before.
  9. Of course he can. As long as he stays in the game and on the field somewhere. Not sure when it happened last in mlb though.
  10. I agree with this for sure. He provides something very important and the bottom line for me is that he doing what he is doing at the big league level.
  11. There really is something about "too much information" leads to "paralysis analysis" on occasion. Ask the greatest hitters of all time what studying advanced metrics or whatever did for them, this is what you might get. The Tony Perez secret to hitting - I see the ball, I hit the ball.
  12. Hamilton is gradually becoming special. Speed defines him I guess but the bat is alive right now. He needs to in the lineup. If things continue the way that they are currently going, Grissom is going to have to prove beyond a doubt that he belongs in Boston before he gets there.
  13. I think that you are absolutely right. He has worked too hard not to be right where he is. Look how long it took him to break the unwritten rule about the third time through the lineup. Maturity has helped. He's always had the stuff.
  14. Sorry - I guess I was looking closer to the starting group. I'm becoming a senior citizen. When they got down 6-2 last night, I chose to finish reading Yaz's segment from Posnanski's book before turning out the light. Ouch!
  15. Is there such a thing? Pretty sure that what is normal where I am is not particularly considered normal to the people of SoCal.
  16. If hamilton continues to hit, I'm thinking his name should be listed in there some where.
  17. I thought Duran was the weird guy. I'm going to have to get to know them better.
  18. thank you notin - I've been away for awhile. Maybe I need to change my approach - nope not likely to happen.
  19. Absolutely there is no place in my plan for anyone who might potentially be a big time hitter for us.lol I think that most here understand me fairly well but for you I will try to be more specific.
  20. I love young, healthy, tough players who can run. I would not trade Hamilton. Grissom may still be an asset. he is just a kid. I'm not worried at all about second base. Yoshida and to be honest with you Story would be on the table if anybody was interested. For a couple of years, Sale was the target for some due to injuries. As good as Story might be, I am for the guys that are in the lineup and don't want to come out.
  21. Duran is looking like the real deal.
  22. In my little delusional world, athletes the likes of Chris Sale would be kept around in some capacity forever.
  23. Just the other day it seems, some here wanted to see Duran traded. Proves that it is pretty tough to make the right deal. Lot of luck involved in playing the trade game. There is no question that with the young quality players starting to pile up that something might have to be done. It's a big guessing game until you actually see them at the big league level for a period of time. Duran for sure is starting to look, sound, and play like a special player. Mayer and Teel? good problems to have.
  24. ...win lose or whatever, regardless of anything JH has or has not done, Willie Mays was the best I ever saw.
  25. It might be repetitive but he was the best I ever saw.
