  1. I really don’t have any idea about his defense. If he was an adequate ss and he is terrible at second base, that would be very unusual. Now listen, that is not a comment about Grissom just a perception people and maybe statistics show in general. There is no question that ss as a position is tougher to play. There are obviously some differences but making the transition from short to second should not be a big deal. The other way, not so much. This once again has nothing really to do with any individual. I’m a lay person who just finds some of the decisions made by this management team to be confusing. Obviously they are pushing the right buttons. Grissom just like every one of his teammates is an outstanding baseball player. Good enough - apparently not but they don’t get to the level they are at unless they are pretty special.
  2. I agree. I’m not that guy beating the drum for the Grissoms of the world. There is no reason for him to be on a team in contention. That being said I still find some of the decisions made by management a little confusing. Maybe that’s because I don’t do a deep dive into available information to determine every player’s worth. I’m a fan who does rely on box scores to get much of my information. I’m honestly ok with that. I just love watching the game. Actually I don’t think that I’ve ever seen Grissom play. I don’t happen to think he is some slouch who just rolled off the couch though. He is a young professional athlete who looks as though he is having a decent year. I hope that he like many of his teammates continues to enjoy his ride.
  3. hey I’m ok with whatever they do with anybody right now for sure and I do like David Hamilton but outside of his speed I haven’t really seen much to make me think he is all that valuable a piece. It is obvious I guess that Grissom isn’t a fit in the system. They should unload him somehow for his sake. It’s interesting to me that we have a number of posters who have been ready to ship Connor Wong off to a secluded island somewhere in exile while still applauding the fact that we have a David Hamilton playing second base for us every now and then. Connor Wong is a far more valuable piece of this puzzle than David Hamilton . Not a knock on Hamilton at all. He is doing his job.
  4. Devers = addition by subtraction. I’m glad that his former teammates have really said nothing about the trade but every one of them saw and experienced a player who was not willing to do what was right to possibly make his team better. I’m guessing that right now they are all pretty happy with way things turned out.
  5. You mean that same Jim Rice who was in his prime one of the best right handed hitters of all time? The same guy who the Red Sox staff felt shouldn’t be giving a young player hitting advice? A healthy rice in ‘75 and we win the series.
  6. Big difference I think between a healthy Dobbins and Fitts. I’m hoping that a healthy Dobbins is going to be a major player next season.
  7. I never thought that I would ever like the between innings commercials until tonight.
  8. What do you mean give you a break? No one repeat no one is actively pushing for Grissom to be called up to play anywhere. When Mayer was injured it seemed kind of odd that Hamilton was called up I guess based on what he hasn’t done. Before you get excited yup I still see value in Hamilton. Also at the time of Mayer’s injury, Gonzalez was not playing much second base. Personally I’d leave Gonzalez right at second base and see how it works out. I know nothing about the hows and whys of the Red Sox when it comes to how they promote their players. II do know quite a bit about baseball and I do find some of their moves a little confusing. Obviously it is just me. I’m ok with that.
  9. There would be no reason to call him up if he isn’t performing the way they want want to see. I read al little bit about our prospects on line and do in fact rely on the box scores. Once again, I obviously don’t know his circumstances the way that you do.
  10. Don’t agree - obviously depends on the situation of course. If you are outperforming your teammates unless there are other circumstances, of course you deserve a shot. Obviously i don’t know this kid like you do.
  11. Hey I won’t argue with you about Grissom’s talent. You seem to know a lot more about it for sure than I do. I’ve never seen him as a key piece to anything just a kid deserving a shot. Guess not and no big deal.
  12. I suspect that he’ll be back and pitch better than ever with a rebuilt arm.
  13. Cora had a lot of good things to say about Romero this spring. A shortstop moving to second is a strength most of the time. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised to see him up soon.
  14. Along with Mickey Romero unless I misread something. Tolle is a beast and Cora has liked Romero since the first day he saw him.
  15. I have no problem with them doing more to upgrade as long as it doesn’t get too costly. I’m assuming that Dobbins is back next year. He is young and still a bit untested but he for sure isn’t Kutter Crawford or Tanner Houck. He’s young but he is powerful and he knows how to pitch.
  16. We have a couple of people who have posted it as being a primary concern. That is just fodder for the fire as far as I’m concerned. It is a none issue. the man can catch. A hit now and then would just be great for sure. I’ve been kicking around as a Sox fan since 55 and I have seen a whole bunch of backup catchers as well as starting catchers for them over the years. Wong just isn’t that bad. We have bigger issues.
  17. Hmm this is where I could shine by saying don’t forget that one of our pressing needs is a backup catcher! lol just kidding .
  18. Many here seem to be willing to lose about anything in order to sign a pitcher that might slot in to the #2 hole. I guess I’m that guy who thinks that right now we have a staff with two #2’s on it right now. I couldn’t be happier. It would never hurt to add another front liner but I think the Sox should be dealing from strength in any possible trade talks they might have. We have needs like everybody has but what’s not to like? My summer has been great.
  19. Story will be back. I would sign Bregman for life so that he could coach for us when his playing days are done. I would also resign Giolito as well as Chapman. As for Casas, I think that they should have gotten rid of him when he wasn’t interested in signing long term just a few years ago. He has accomplished nothing. I don’t know how Campbell will make out. His future is very much up in the air. Mayer’s injury history worries me. He really has had trouble staying on the field since he was signed.
  20. I;m hoping. that maybe they realized they don’t need one. Wong can catch. Anyone expecting more from a backup catcher just really wants it all. Not necessary.
  21. who wants to stand in there against Tolle? He is a beast and looks the part. We have some potentially very solid pitching depth in our system.
  22. I don’t think that the post is a case of “poor poor Vaughn “. I just think it is a little confusing to understand the overall move. We have many micro managers here who obviously know more about how the inner workings of the system operate than others. When a player is performing apparently about as well ans any field payer at the AAA level and doesn’t get a look in this instance it is confusing that is about it. I find this much more confusing than trying to figure out the moves and lack there off at the trade deadline. If it is about the pitching being so poor at the AAA level, are any of our prospects at any level all that good? “
  23. When I first saw Anthony that is exactly what I thought. He does look like both a young Yaz and the greatest Ted. Obviously for now that is where the comparisons end but he is exciting to watch. I’ve said repeatedly that this team has something special going on. It is what the metrics and analytics cannot measure. They like each other and are pulling hard for each other. You can’t underestimate how important that is for any team in any sport. it looks like they are undermanned but they just keep grinding along. For me that is what it is all about.
  24. I guess just about everyone posting here would have liked to have seen more done to improve us. Probably there could have been something more substantial. I just think that the asking price would likely have been way too high. I like our current team. I’m going to continue to enjoy them. I can see why everyone wanted Duran. I’m glad that I still get to enjoy him in a Sox uniform. The lack of a Grissom move still puzzles me. Regardless of what he has faced for pitching, he has done everything that he could do.
  25. And the trade deadline has come and gone. I’m just a silly old fan who knows quite a bit about the actual play on the field and next to nothing about the inner workings of management. In my estimation based on what I have seen on the field, I do consider Cora to be an average manager who likes his players and they seem to like him. With respect to Breslow, I’m just as confused by what he does or doesn’t do as anyone - average at best. With all that said, I still like this team and have enjoyed watching this season. I’ll continue to do so. I’m glad that Duran remains a Red Sox player. I can’t believe that no team would want Abreau. I wish that Mayer wasn’t prone to injury. I do not like the multiple position approach to so many players and I really don’t like the constant lefty righty lefty righty approach to our lineups based on an analytical approach to the game. Oh well - dog days have begun.
