  1. Dobbins did kind of come out of nowhere but watching him pitch for each of his starts, he has gone from a pleasant surprise to someone who looks like he could have a very good career moving forward. Being big, strong and young with a high end fastball and control certainly helps. He won’t be great every time he pitches but I won’t miss watching when his turn comes.
  2. I think that Yoshida is still very capable of stepping into that dh role and producing. He is a hitter. He won’t produce the big hits like a Devers but very few can. He just will hit and that is what we need.
  3. And therein lies a good chunk of the problem - Devers is one heck of a hitter but should never have been projected as the face of any franchise. It was a role that looks like he never really wanted. He is a baseball player and that is it. The whole Devers issue was seemingly mismanaged from the start. I’m not defending management in this one by any means, but trading him seemed inevitable once he wasn’t willing to accept a role that the team needed him to accept. 0 excuse for that. I don’t think that there was nor was there ever any evidence to suggest that he was a “cancer in the clubhouse” but something had to give. Just a ballplayer. Good luck to him in his new home.
  4. We need a proven bat to replace the one we lost. I wonder if they are taking applications.
  5. I understand and you are right. David Hamilton may likely have run his course in Fenway. I guess what I’m really trying to say is that if Campbell isn’t going to play regularly then send him down. I believe Mayer is a much better option at second base when Bergman returns. No real place for Campbell.
  6. I think that he is the logical player to go down in order to keep Mayer where he is. He really should have been sent down a while ago. Abreau/Duran/? Who knows right. Should be playing Mayer every single day.
  7. When Abreau returns and someone has to get conveniently injured or simply sent down, my pick would be Campbell. Regardless of the signs of life lately, I think that he could use a little extra work. I would choose to never send Mayer anywhere but possibly second base for a short visit. I’ll always believe that he should have come up first. He looks poised and confident. His hitting will come but he looks very poised in the field to me.
  8. I’ve been saying this for sometime now. He’s got the potential to be special. Big, strong, young, multi pitch strike thrower. Let him pitch. Cora’s decisions in general confuse me. Whether it’s leaving someone in too long or taking someone out too soon.
  9. I’m not going to argue with this point at all. Mayer hitting 2 home runs in a game, didn’t really factor in to my comment about both Mayer and Anthony. It is about the overall talent they have as compared to anyone on the roster that might be chosen to replace them. Looks to me as though Mayer is playing the field like a seasoned veteran. People with their types of unique talent need to be given a chance to hit mlb pitching regardless of what the metrics say. Let’s see what they can do I say. There really isn’t much to lose I think.
  10. Seriously? I’ve had my share of battles here as well but thought I’d give it another try. Same posters for the most part, same old same old. It’s a site that is a little less toxic than before but oh well. I’m a person that isn’t normally 100% that I’m right about most things. There certainly are people here who feel that they are. And that’s ok. i do enjoy the banter but for me it is really about the baseball and maybe even learning some new perspectives about the game. I hope this site continues to be enjoyable for me.
  11. Not bringing Mayer up early after the spring that he had puzzled me. It certainly should come as no surprise that he looks and plays like he should have been there since day one. He and Anthony both should be in the lineup whether there are lefties or righties for anyone on the mound. Constantly playing the analytics game makes me sick. It should be obvious to anyone that Mayer should be in the lineup and once he gets going Anthony will likely be right there with him.
  12. Watching a 21 year old Anthony in that batter’s box reminds me of some of the very greatest that I have seen since 1955. Tall, poised, strong - we shall see what happens going forward.
  13. Anthony and Mayer - two future stars. I think that the jury is still out in my mind with respect to Campbell.
  14. Why would you even try to pick him off. Get the hitter.
  15. I just think that it is about time. All 3 of those kids are here. It gives me another reason to watch them.
  16. He’s probably a long way from a finished product but he is big kid with a powerful arm. I’ve been really impressed with him and his command of the strike zone.
  17. When Crochet pitches, I watch. When Dobbins pitches, I watch. Guess I’m not much of a fan oh well.
  18. Anyone who has watched Dobbins pitch this year has to be impressed.
  19. Hunter Dobbins is good right now and he has the potential to be much better. If they choose to never let this kid could pitch to a lineup that third time through, we never get to see whether he can or not. 60 and a few pitches just wasn’t enough. I’d also like to see him throw that fastball a little more often.
  20. There is as much chance for Cora to get Devers to do anything other than what he is currently doing as there is for him to get Duran to take a day off.
  21. Sorry but is beginning to look like maybe this kid was brought up too quickly. he was promoted over the top of Mayer. Mayer may struggle as well going forward but he is a competent fielder who certainly helps our team’s defense. Many of this team’s managerial decisions are and continue to be puzzling to me.
  22. Cora’s comments made me sick. He is their coach? In the world I grew up in, played in and coached in, the coach is responsible for the massive mental errors that a team makes. Who else gets the blame for a total lack of fundamental baseball being played? Devers to third, Mayer to second (only because Story has to be handled softly), Masa to dh would give us a contact competent bat that we need in the lineup.
  23. The firing of Dombrowski was a huge huge error in judgement. In him, we had a seasoned competent GM. A proven winner. The massive rebuild that we have embarked on since his firing is a proven massive failure at this point in time.
  24. Totally agree. It’s the old clout or an out theory. Dave kingman deluxe. I hate this and the metrics that support it.
  25. Kind of sounds like the easy way out to me. Gathering information to help making any decision is worthwhile but I still think going on your instincts every now and then works.
