  1. If he is pitching just decently, any move to limit his innings pitch count would be i think about as unethical as it can get. I hope the Sox would never stoop quite that low.
  2. Great news. Hopefully just the beginning - Bregman then Giolito.
  3. He is the best pitching prospect in Boston that I have seen sine the Rocket.
  4. I like what you are saying here. I’d add Dobbins to the starting rotation mix if he is ready to go next spring.
  5. I’m not much of a Casas fan I’ll admit. I would like to see a proven veteran plugged in to that first base position. Someone with some clout. Might even be Lowe. Not having KC, or Casas or Mayer (who happen to really like) in our starting lineup going forward I don’t thinks hurts us at all. Mayer would certainly be in it if he could stay on the field something he has yet to prove that he can do. I like guys who are available.
  6. I would like to think that next year the rotation starts with Crochet, Bello, and Gialito (sp) still in it. Hopefully Dobbins and the next best available starter via trade plugged in there somewhere. Crawford might kind of be the forgotten man here. A good potential back of the rotation guy for sure.
  7. Kind of looks like Cora feels the same way. I don’t think that the plan is for any of the big 3 to skip a start at this point in the season.
  8. Keeping Gio, Bregman and Chapman on this roster is a no brainer for me. I have no idea how they do it necessarily nor how much it might cost but it just seems logical. Once again, I would say that Bregman should get a forever contract if that is what it takes. When his playing days are behind him, I would like to see him on the coaching staff in some capacity. As for needs going forward - a top of the line starting pitcher and one big bat. Not sure Ryan is the guy simply because of What Minnesota might want from us.
  9. Of course - There are many things that people have to think about in situational baseball. I think that there are definitely people who discount some of the older (I guess) methods of getting the job done. I’m ok with that. I think that there is still a time and a place for everything.
  10. I like these examples. In general I would say, when your team appears to not be producing runs in a very close game and you need to move a runner up to get into a position to win a game. Common sense I’d say.
  11. There have been and always will be a time to use a bunt to move runners over as well as a bunt for a base hit. What troubles me is that in today’s game there seems to be a plan laid and adhered to before a pitch is made. You have to have a plan but spontaneity still is a good thing. For instance, if the metrics say don’t challenge a fielders arm, the game is on the line maybe you do. I absolutely believe in using all the information you can to plan but sometimes it is a good thing to just follow your gut.
  12. Narvaez has had a great season. I think that in terms of what you have done for me lately, in my mind he tops the list of all of our rookies. Like many here, I’m a huge proponent of the solid up the middle approach and that begins with the guy behind the plate. He has been outstanding.
  13. I try to be a little careful when I post here because I know many of my limitations. I am absolutely not immersed in analytical metrics. I do rely on such things as the box scores to tell me a story often. My eyes are still very good so I do rely on my eye test to help me. I’m very surprised that anyone who has watched Mayer play doesn’t think that he is an above average fielder. Better than Campbell at this time - of course - no big deal Campbell will be fine in time. Now is Mayer quick enough to become an all-star ss - I don’t know - maybe maybe not. I hope that he can become injury free some day because I want to see him in our infield.
  14. It’s worth a shot. Maybe he recaptures some prior magic. He is a solid defender.
  15. I hope the Sox hitting instructors will do just that. Hit the pitch where it is thrown. Doesn’t need to try to lift and pull everything. The power will come. Line drives all over the ballpark. Some in and some out works just fine.
  16. A shame - hope it solves the problem for him.
  17. Mayor’s injury history is a concern. I hope we get a chance to see what he can do over a long stretch of staying healthy. His glove for sure is and has been major league ready for sometime. I think that his bat will come along as well but it’s tougth when he can’t stay on the field. Outside of Anthony, Dobbins was next up for me. He looked so good when he first came up. He’s got a real live arm and just looked like a mature young pitcher. We won’t see him for awhile now. I hope he comes back strong.
  18. Couple of things really stood out to me last night. Maybe I just started paying attention. Buehler’s pitching for one - who would have thunk it. This is a team that is filled with real athletes from top to bottom. Physically it just looks like a team that is very fit. Great team speed. I was happy to see one of my favorites Connor Wong getting it done last night. Good for him.
  19. Got to kind of keep the faith don’t you! It was a great performance by him last night. Actually a great performance by all of them.
  20. Maybe - I really would like to see him back.
  21. Bring back Golitto please. Bergman for sure and while you’re at it Chapman as well.
  22. I’ve heard some of what you mention here. I agree. Let him do what he does best.
  23. Bergman forever - I just dream about him and Varitek working together some day. Giolito for two and one year extension for Chapman. I think your reasoning with respect to Abreau is on right on. As much as I like Mayer, His injury history concerns me too. Tolle might be the next one up. I’m not surprised that Mayer had the injection and really wants to get back this year. Who wouldn’t. This is a special group. I want it duly noted that I am sitting here thinking real good thoughts about what Breslow and the management team is doing. Rafaela, Bello, Crochet, Anthony, Campbell. Anybody else I’m, missing here? I think that they are getting out in front of a trend that will keep them competitive for years to come. It also satisfies a need that some long time fans like me need - I want players who I know are coming back year after year.
  24. Best news I’ve heard today. He seems like he really does love it here. Great long term sign. Next up Bregman, followed by Giolitto and then Chapman on my wish list. A few little tweaks here and there and this team will compete for quite some time. Get me in to old age. Like to see a for real power hitting first baseman brought in as well as one more real quality arm. Not too much to ask. Put them together with what we now have and let the good times roll.
  25. Now you see where I’m going with this. I have no clue what -DRS or -5OAA might mean. What do they mean by the way?
