I still loved those early 60's teams. In 1966, we really could see that something new and fresh was coming our way. It was great baseball. The current number of teams and the likewise number that make the playoffs makes me believe that we would have had numerous other chances with some of those early 70's teams if the format had been different.

Wow - look at those names. Is it even possible that in addition to being treat hitters they had something else in common? hmmm -
I remember that 72 season. it was cool to have a chance to see some of the greats who played the game in different times.

when I considered my top three, I kept the choices simple and really only thought about their performances as Red Sox players. In my mind Aparicio obviously lays over the field when you look at all the other Red Sox shortstops. He would have to be in the discussion of who the greatest shortstops of all time were. I consider myself very fortunate that he was in his prime when baseball topped my list of things to do and pay attention to. Man oh man could he play. He could run just a little too. Aparicio and Fox up the middle - Not bad!

Ain't that the truth. I was indoctrinated even earlier. I have to say though that I have come to appreciate the talent some of those old time Yankees had.

So true - Not a lot of love for little Louis here. He wasn't here long but he could play. Considering everything i guess I would go with Bogaerts - Valentin - Nomar (I guess) I never saw Pesky play. Others that I really liked - Aparichio, Petrocelli, Burleson, and of course Eddie Bresseud.

He had problems with the routine plays. Moon - I'm joking kind of here - He could get to balls that many shortstops just couldn't get to.

I love me some Nick Pivetta. I would have no problem having him lead us off. Obviously going to be Eovaldi, but I do like Pivetta.

it doesn't smell like a move that bloom would have taken bringing JBJ back at that cost but if he is willing to do that than I would think that anything is possible when looking at Devers, Bogaerts, and Story.

No doubt for many a benefit like that was very welcome I will say though that I know many and I mean many people who received some of the "free money" being floated around who actually tried to send it back to the government because they simply didn't need it. More to the point I was implying that with gas and oil prices being what they currently are there are many families struggling in the northeast. Watching the huge amounts of money being dumped into the entertainment world doesn't impress everyone. Oh well though life goes on and I'm ready to get back to baseball. Our lineup with the addition of Story has some great potential.

I'm not exactly sure what my point was now I guess. I would find it unlikely that most people going to baseball games don't like them first of all and secondly i guess that much of the traffic I see on the roads today has nothing to do with commuting to work. In general I guess I wished that more people realized how fortunate we are to live in the country we live in thus the expression Only in America.

My point was to simply say that there is an incredible amount of money in this country and much of it seems to be wasted. Prices of anything tend to go up or down based on the simple theory of supply and demand. Works for baseball as much as anything else.

I was only speaking for myself but I think it has something to do with the strange times we are living in. More traffic than ever before as the price of a gallon of gas continues to rise. There appears to be a lot more money out there than we have ever seen before. As Fenway continues to for the most part sell out, what is the cost of a ticket? Only in America i guess.

With some of those players it very possibly could have happened if the team was not being mismanaged at that time.

I totally agree. I also realize that the clock won't be turned back anytime soon but I do think that not having players to follow for an extended time has led to a certain amount of disinterest in professional sports in general.

Once again absolutely right from this fan's perspective. The rings are nice for sure but when the season ends and things don't go your way - There is always next year. The season is a marathon and it overshadows the extended extremely lengthy playoff season which we have had to learn to accept. The season itself has lost much of its allure for me when the goal is simply to attain the last playoff spot. Nurse your players, stay healthy, and turn it on during the second season right. Doesn't make it for me.

So true! I'm only speaking for me here and I might not be your typical fan but I like to get to know the guys playing for us just a little bit. It is why I used to go to the games. It isn't just about the current year for me. I realize that it might not be a practical approach but I'm going with the boys all staying home for a few more years. If I were to buy into the revolving door theory based upon the $, I will choose to get my kicks watching the amateurs play.

It's kind of obvious I guess that I have felt for a long time that Bogey is more than adequate as a shortstop. I hope that he remains a Red Sox for a long time. As important as I know the position of shortstop is, I hope that every baseball fan realizes the importance of having a solid second baseman. We all believe in strength up the middle. Story's desire to be a Red Sox and his willingness to play second base makes this call a very easy one for Cora to make. Is it the absolute best scenario that we could have, maybe not but do people honestly think that this combination is going to hurt us? I doubt that it does very much. I'm really looking forward to watching this combination work. I'm actually starting to get semi excited about baseball again.

I'm with you for sure with Whitlock and Houk both being used as starters. As most posters here have said, relief pitching can be found on the cheap. These two young guys should be given a real chance. I'm in the camp of signing Bogaerts yesterday. He gets the job done and I'm tired of the over the top analytical approach to the game. Keeping Dalbec is also a no brainer for me. I've heard some talk of him taking in some work at second base as well. I like to dream - keep Devers of course.

of course prospect trades can make an immediate impact, think we understand that - most of DD's did exactly that. i'm quite comfortable being in the camp with those who don't really see the value in this one though.
