  1. it doesn't smell like a move that bloom would have taken bringing JBJ back at that cost but if he is willing to do that than I would think that anything is possible when looking at Devers, Bogaerts, and Story.
  2. No doubt for many a benefit like that was very welcome I will say though that I know many and I mean many people who received some of the "free money" being floated around who actually tried to send it back to the government because they simply didn't need it. More to the point I was implying that with gas and oil prices being what they currently are there are many families struggling in the northeast. Watching the huge amounts of money being dumped into the entertainment world doesn't impress everyone. Oh well though life goes on and I'm ready to get back to baseball. Our lineup with the addition of Story has some great potential.
  3. Hey sounds to me as though life is good for you. Sadly it isn't that way for everyone.
  4. I'm not exactly sure what my point was now I guess. I would find it unlikely that most people going to baseball games don't like them first of all and secondly i guess that much of the traffic I see on the roads today has nothing to do with commuting to work. In general I guess I wished that more people realized how fortunate we are to live in the country we live in thus the expression Only in America.
  5. My point was to simply say that there is an incredible amount of money in this country and much of it seems to be wasted. Prices of anything tend to go up or down based on the simple theory of supply and demand. Works for baseball as much as anything else.
  6. I was only speaking for myself but I think it has something to do with the strange times we are living in. More traffic than ever before as the price of a gallon of gas continues to rise. There appears to be a lot more money out there than we have ever seen before. As Fenway continues to for the most part sell out, what is the cost of a ticket? Only in America i guess.
  7. With some of those players it very possibly could have happened if the team was not being mismanaged at that time.
  8. I totally agree. I also realize that the clock won't be turned back anytime soon but I do think that not having players to follow for an extended time has led to a certain amount of disinterest in professional sports in general.
  9. Once again absolutely right from this fan's perspective. The rings are nice for sure but when the season ends and things don't go your way - There is always next year. The season is a marathon and it overshadows the extended extremely lengthy playoff season which we have had to learn to accept. The season itself has lost much of its allure for me when the goal is simply to attain the last playoff spot. Nurse your players, stay healthy, and turn it on during the second season right. Doesn't make it for me.
  10. So true! I'm only speaking for me here and I might not be your typical fan but I like to get to know the guys playing for us just a little bit. It is why I used to go to the games. It isn't just about the current year for me. I realize that it might not be a practical approach but I'm going with the boys all staying home for a few more years. If I were to buy into the revolving door theory based upon the $, I will choose to get my kicks watching the amateurs play.
  11. It's kind of obvious I guess that I have felt for a long time that Bogey is more than adequate as a shortstop. I hope that he remains a Red Sox for a long time. As important as I know the position of shortstop is, I hope that every baseball fan realizes the importance of having a solid second baseman. We all believe in strength up the middle. Story's desire to be a Red Sox and his willingness to play second base makes this call a very easy one for Cora to make. Is it the absolute best scenario that we could have, maybe not but do people honestly think that this combination is going to hurt us? I doubt that it does very much. I'm really looking forward to watching this combination work. I'm actually starting to get semi excited about baseball again.
  12. Is there a metric that measures that good for the team and good team harmony stuff?
  13. My opinion - both should get the opportunity to start.
  14. I'm with you for sure with Whitlock and Houk both being used as starters. As most posters here have said, relief pitching can be found on the cheap. These two young guys should be given a real chance. I'm in the camp of signing Bogaerts yesterday. He gets the job done and I'm tired of the over the top analytical approach to the game. Keeping Dalbec is also a no brainer for me. I've heard some talk of him taking in some work at second base as well. I like to dream - keep Devers of course.
  15. of course prospect trades can make an immediate impact, think we understand that - most of DD's did exactly that. i'm quite comfortable being in the camp with those who don't really see the value in this one though.
  16. Did the author quote some source that we can not see with respect to the potential of either of these two prospects? Based on what I have read, it is hard to imagine anyone investing this amount of money in two prospects that have yet to really do much. It is an incredible deal to really understand. It looks on the surface that it really is about the future as in the real future. My future is this spring. I think that this deal is ridiculous. I'm not saying that Renfroe is an all-star by any means but I would take him over JBJ everyday. As for the two prospects - not likely to show up in our lineup for a while if in fact ever.
  17. It continues to be difficult for me to imagine anyone actually seeing this as a productive move. Taking on JBJ's salary makes 0 sense to me. The complete package just ain't worth it. If people want to think that the two prospects coming over make it worth the cost, ok i guess. I don't see it myself but oh well. Hey - because he is the GM I will support him much as i did Dave Dombrowski. i'll continue to be loyal but I still don't like this move.
  18. it is not a move that impresses me at all. i don't expect it to help us now or in the future.
  19. i had that very same experience both from the mound and behind the plate. I think that it says a lot more about the people who put 13 year olds in positions like this than it does about whether or not in my case anyway i was any good at what they asked me to do. i learned a great deal through those experiences about parents and adults in general when they don't get their own way about things
  20. Guess what - this is a post that clearly explains how I feel about this issue. Thanks for expressing it the way you have.
  21. I will never forget him. A Boston boy who got a chance to come home. He was a truly gifted player. An excellent second baseman and man could he run. God Bless him -
  22. kind of like the whole launch angle and exit velocity thing i guess that i am just not into. understand that i'm the guy who got fit this summer for golf clubs and it was one of the worst moves that i have made. it's the kiss principle that seems to work best for me see the ball - hit the ball. i find that an overload of information is too much for me to handle.
  23. I have 0 problems with shifts. it is about humans using information to make adjustments. No real problem with the dh either but one way or the other I think that both leagues should do the same thing. Many of the recent changes have been done to keep fans from getting bored. I tend to not like uneducated fans.
  24. it is primarily about change i guess. i've been found out. I actually am finding out that the evolution, if that is what is happening, to some of the games I grew up playing tends to make me lose interest quickly. Hey - I'm not a big fan of the spread offense either. Oh well - to my last breath - a pitcher's duel with both going the full 9 and one team winning 1-0. A football game that is won or lost at the line of scrimmage and a basketball team that understands that little people help big people win - the goal for us was always to hold our opponents to 56 points for the full 32 minutes and we would have a chance to win. I sound like lots of fun don't I! lol
  25. it's all good and truth be told i don't like many of the recent changes to the game that have been made either.
