  1. Did the author quote some source that we can not see with respect to the potential of either of these two prospects? Based on what I have read, it is hard to imagine anyone investing this amount of money in two prospects that have yet to really do much. It is an incredible deal to really understand. It looks on the surface that it really is about the future as in the real future. My future is this spring. I think that this deal is ridiculous. I'm not saying that Renfroe is an all-star by any means but I would take him over JBJ everyday. As for the two prospects - not likely to show up in our lineup for a while if in fact ever.
  2. It continues to be difficult for me to imagine anyone actually seeing this as a productive move. Taking on JBJ's salary makes 0 sense to me. The complete package just ain't worth it. If people want to think that the two prospects coming over make it worth the cost, ok i guess. I don't see it myself but oh well. Hey - because he is the GM I will support him much as i did Dave Dombrowski. i'll continue to be loyal but I still don't like this move.
  3. it is not a move that impresses me at all. i don't expect it to help us now or in the future.
  4. i had that very same experience both from the mound and behind the plate. I think that it says a lot more about the people who put 13 year olds in positions like this than it does about whether or not in my case anyway i was any good at what they asked me to do. i learned a great deal through those experiences about parents and adults in general when they don't get their own way about things
  5. Guess what - this is a post that clearly explains how I feel about this issue. Thanks for expressing it the way you have.
  6. I will never forget him. A Boston boy who got a chance to come home. He was a truly gifted player. An excellent second baseman and man could he run. God Bless him -
  7. kind of like the whole launch angle and exit velocity thing i guess that i am just not into. understand that i'm the guy who got fit this summer for golf clubs and it was one of the worst moves that i have made. it's the kiss principle that seems to work best for me see the ball - hit the ball. i find that an overload of information is too much for me to handle.
  8. I have 0 problems with shifts. it is about humans using information to make adjustments. No real problem with the dh either but one way or the other I think that both leagues should do the same thing. Many of the recent changes have been done to keep fans from getting bored. I tend to not like uneducated fans.
  9. it is primarily about change i guess. i've been found out. I actually am finding out that the evolution, if that is what is happening, to some of the games I grew up playing tends to make me lose interest quickly. Hey - I'm not a big fan of the spread offense either. Oh well - to my last breath - a pitcher's duel with both going the full 9 and one team winning 1-0. A football game that is won or lost at the line of scrimmage and a basketball team that understands that little people help big people win - the goal for us was always to hold our opponents to 56 points for the full 32 minutes and we would have a chance to win. I sound like lots of fun don't I! lol
  10. it's all good and truth be told i don't like many of the recent changes to the game that have been made either.
  11. Yes - the more automation that continues to be introduced into the game will cause me to continue to lose interest. i don't care where they put the earpiece, there really is something about this that in my mind is an attempt to sterilize a pretty good game that doesn't need much help. The human element is very important to me. It is an imperfect game because humans are involved. Look I'm not trying to get into any argument with you or once again a few others on the site. I can't compete with any of you in that regard. I'm just one voice and I think that I have expressed how I feel about the issue. Don't forget - I'm one of those guys that still believes in momentum, the home field advantage, clutch athletes in general. I appreciate what the data and technology has brought to the game but it isn't why I watch and it does nothing to add to my personal enjoyment of it. I've been able to live with the mistakes that I have had to live through in my coaching and viewing career and actually many of them have given me stories to tell years after they happened. Hey - I'm an old athlete and coach I guess now. I need those stories. I don't think that my feelings are actually all that out of step with regard to the viewing public.
  12. to date though i have found no club that allows me to gain back any of the yardage i have lost in just the last two years - come on technology.
  13. only for speed of play purposes - lol Why do you always have to do stuff like this anyway? lol stop raining on my parade.
  14. I've read through the posts and if fury is being expressed we actually are living in a kinder, gentler world.
  15. I think that you made some great points here. Technology of course and rightfully so is here to stay. i do think that overdosing on it doesn't improve one's quality of life though. When i go to the golf course (which is most days) the telephone does not go with me.
  16. Fury? really?
  17. Well it is clear to see that all 5,6 or maybe 7 of you have made up your minds about how much more beneficial to the game it would be to have robots calling the balls and strikes. Hope you don't mind someone disagreeing with you. There have been many changes made to the game which I have had no problem with at all but personally I do not think that this move would make the game particularly interesting for me to watch. Hey look before you pile on - I don't care for the way basketball is played these days and it is a game that I know a little about. What can I say- I wish that the 3 point line had never been created. Losing me or the few others who share my opinion obviously won't hurt the game.
  18. i don't think that it is important to understand why some people - assuming that I am not the only one - would see robotic strike callers as one more step that leads toward changing the game. i've accepted and actually like instant replay when it is done quickly and efficiently but speaking for myself only, I don't think that more automation will make the game more enjoyable. I like as much "human element " as possible. If I were to choose not to watch the game as it continues to transform, oh well i guess that it would be my loss.
  19. data driven information in baseball obviously works for some. That is all good. Robotic umpires would turn me off to a great extent. I love the game and in part because it is imperfect. It is the human element that works for me. Does that make me a boot licker? Something I have yet to do. Robotic umpires dealing with balls and strikes I'm afraid would do it for me. And the is ok right. I'm just some old guy now. I'm probably one of just a few people who liked the game more the way it was right? We shall see I guess.
  20. it is a connection that good coaches are able to achieve. Anything is possible when it is achieved.
  21. I realize that I am now from a little different era. To each his own I guess. Maybe Cora is older than he says he is. lol
  22. i'm loving me some Schwarber. he is a must in there for me. i don't know what becomes of Dalbec. Still just a kid. A healthy Arroyo makes a really big difference in this lineup. Hernandez can stay in center where we need him and second base is taken care of. oh by the way yup, I would do would i could do to sign Schwarber as well. He just seems to fit up here in new England.
  23. When Cora told Rodriguez last night that we don't do that, I was sold. I've always liked him but not as much as I do now. He makes a difference. He is a real coach. He loves these guys but isn't afraid to lead. He cares about them and about the franchise in general and our guys know it.
  24. Things were not left in bad shape at all by DD. He was an outstanding GM for us at the right time. He is now not here amongst us. i've moved on and am very happy with the current team. obviously i'm not particularly concerned with who the GM is but a good job is being done.
  25. I think that Houck is a potential top shelf starter and that is the role that he should play. Whitlock I suppose there might be a little question about but I don't think plugging him to a relief pitchers role is something that should be done.
