  1. To be honest with you I think that it is pretty close to bing the same thing. I'm not perfect but it takes more than a discussion here to send me into attack mode. Pretty sure that I wouldn't have to say much before I would be a target as well. I think that you know for sure how I feel about Henry's budget so to speak. All i want for the Red Sox are good players and for a few years now some here have tried to educate me with what they think they know about his budget. Which quite likely is very little. Thankfully I guess that I am uneducable . lol
  2. hmm Bell - How do you think I feel being a supporter of Dombrowskis? He has been blamed for so much by so many here in what I consider a weak attempt to support Bloom. We clearly have people who liked the wins but didn't appreciate the cost. I get that but constantly and I do mean constantly bringing his name up now that he is no longer with us in an attempt to support Bloom seems really a sad way to support IMO. Time to move on. I would be willing to show more support for Bloom if I actually liked and I mean really liked his moves and if he a recognizable plan going forward. As things stand currently, I can't watch them. It has to be extremely tough for the remaining winning veterans that we have. Some of them can't get out soon enough and I don't blame them.
  3. In hindsight it absolutely could be called a blunder but at the time, I don't think so at all. Well worth the risk in my opinion. I've always been a JBJ fan but I don't see how anyone could come close to thinking that signing Sale to an extension in anyway compares to bringing him back. That move was really more than a blunder. With respect to Sale, he still might surprise us. Although Bell I have to say that based on Bloom's moves to date and all of the potential lineups for next season that I have seen people post here, i'm not sure any talented veteran would want to play for us regardless of the size of the contract. Some still want to win.
  4. Not sure any comparison between taking a chance on Sale and taking a chance on JBJ makes any real sense. If a chance had to be taken, I wonder how many would have gone with Sale as opposed to JBJ. No matter how good jBJ was in the field, there is no way I could see the justification for bringing him back.
  5. yes you did. So do we have a plan for next year? when you figure it out please let me know.
  6. hey come on now, it is all about the budget. I'm sure that JH would be willing to fork more over if it wasn't for the budget. Even muti-billionaires must have an identifiable one don't you think? If it means giving up one or two generational talents oh well that's the way it goes. We are going to keep adding to the farm. lol
  7. So you are saying that his plan is to keep adding to the farm? I'm looking at just about everyone that has been added in addition to those that have already been stockpiled and I don't see the next great player in the reasonably immediate future. Some good prospects but if adding to and log jamming players that may or may never make it to the bigs is the way of the Red Sox future , we might have a lot more hold your nose stinkers in front of us.
  8. One thing that I really think could become apparent and hopefully not what we can expect is that regardless of how many people would like to think that Bloom really does have a plan going forward, based on many of his recent moves, he might not. I can't think of any logical reason for quite a few of them. He's either a genius with a plan or just a guy who was hired to run a hugely popular and wealthy franchise, and really doesn't know what he is doing.
  9. The gift that keeps on giving Bell.
  10. His predecessor was and still is one helluva gm. I'm surely willing to give Bloom a shot although to date I'm just confused by his moves. What I really wish is that the small outspoken group of people who whether they will come right out and admit it or not did not like Dave Dombrowski and the way he did his business. it is tiresome to continually here how he ruined the farm system, which I happen to think is a joke even to say. He has been used and abused as a scapegoat long enough. Time to move on. I happen to think that he clearly understood that you need to use all means to build a successful program. I don't know about Bloom at this point. Jury is still out. Personally i might be much more supportive if I had some clue as to what his plan might be. I'm glad for you and the others here who believe that Bloom is the right guy for the job. I hope that you are right. I'm just not convinced at all that what he is doing is going to succeed in Boston. Whatever he does, this is his gig and constantly bringing DD and his moves has nothing to do with what he is doing now. I realize once again that you and others don't agree with that but that really is the way it goes. Real leaders learn from the past, they don't live in it.
  11. The picture the other day with him and Frank standing together was a good one.
  12. I grew up watching Bill Russell and the Celtics play when they were on. Most regular season games I had a radio stuck to my ear. "Go Up For Glory" was one of my favorite reads. He was certainly the greatest champion of all time. Giving anyone the label as the best ever is always debatable. We all have gotten caught up in these types of discussions for sure. What I've said is if you had a chance to build your own team, who would your first pick be? A tall, lanky, shot blocking, greyhound in the middle would be very tough to beat. Not to mention the fact that the only statistic that mattered to him was the one hanging off the scoreboard at the end of the game. To win every game was always his goal. My absolute favorite all time bb player. With his passing, a part of my youth takes a shot.
  13. good post - I agree
  14. Oh wow - If this in fact is what we might be looking at for next year, I just can't wait. Ouch - I'll read more books, play more golf, and fish a lot more.
  15. hmm - comes from the chairman or person of the PA committee.
  16. a bit of a generalization I think - neither applies to me
  17. No problem here - always been grumpy
  18. So do we have just an old guys category? How about a PA category for those who always end their comments with a challenge for anyone who disagrees with them. I'm an old guy but in many ways I'm going to guess that I'm a lot younger than some who post here. I'm grumpy as well. I don't really like the labelling much particularly in today's environment where everyone has a label it appears. On a forum like this, it is likely no one wins. Many of our illustrious posters on both sides of every issue think that they are 100% correct in their viewpoints. That makes me nervous. To me it means that no one is really willing to listen to anyone else. That often leads to the prersonal attacks. it is where we are today - sad. To be clear though you are an OM and I'm a GOM right ? Oh and also I do enjoy reading all of these comments made by our resident professionals with respect to every issue ever presented about everything. lol Keep on rolling I say.
  19. Sadly i think that Duran looks like another example of how we overrate some of our prospects. We want them to be so good so badly. Prospects are prospects
  20. I think that I have already said this once or twice. I honestly believe that his other irons in the fire are having a great effect on what we are seeing in Fenway. I 'm happy with what he has done in the past but I'm a lot more happy with what the bona fide stars that many of you say were overpaid did for us to win our championships. I do not believe that those contracts are affecting what he wants or plans to do going forward.
  21. It might be time to look ahead and not constantly behind. If Bloom was brought on board to economize in some way it has nothing to do with anything that has happened in the past. It so easy to look back and blame someone else for what some perceive as a mess. Any mess that has been created is with the blessing of current ownership and what their current approach might be. My guess would be that when Bloom took this job he new exactly what was going on and what was expected of him. Can we at least agree that he is intelligent. Based on what he has done since he came on board there has been very little to date that smells of much success. I understand injuries not goofy moves. I wish him luck. Without the big time financial support that each of JH's previous gms had, he might have a very difficult time in New England. Some of you have said that those of us who disagree with many of your takes are typical New England spoiled fans. In my case - you damn right I am. True New England sports fans like winners and have a low tolerance for losers. If that sounds pompous and a bit braggadocios, I have other ways I could say the same thing. And by the way, personally I will always feel the JH can afford to purchase anything he wants. He has proven that over and over and over. It's about priorities.
  22. I'm just saying that between Betts and Devers we have two players who just don't come along that often. I am so sick of people trying to tell me about Henry's budget when i don't think that they have one single idea about what they are talking. If he wanted them badly enough, we would have them. It has also been suggested that if we should start winning with no name talent, all would be forgiven and that life would go on. I disagree. Bloom or whoever has done what's been done to date has been much less than most would expect from a Red Sox franchise and I don't care who the owner or the GM is. I am not a spoiled fan either. I am realistic and to date it has been sickening. I hope things change. If I am expected to give JH credit for what has been accomplished in the past than I think anyone who questions the contracts to the warriors that helped us win our most recent World Championships for their past greatness presents the epitome of hypocrisy.
  23. I'm sorry my friend but beating Dombrowski to death is ridiculous. This has been a fun forum for me but obviously I am a fan of DD"s. I'm pretty sure that you know how I feel about a multi billionair's budget as well. Eventually the current administration has to take responsibility for what is going on.
