  1. His predecessor was and still is one helluva gm. I'm surely willing to give Bloom a shot although to date I'm just confused by his moves. What I really wish is that the small outspoken group of people who whether they will come right out and admit it or not did not like Dave Dombrowski and the way he did his business. it is tiresome to continually here how he ruined the farm system, which I happen to think is a joke even to say. He has been used and abused as a scapegoat long enough. Time to move on. I happen to think that he clearly understood that you need to use all means to build a successful program. I don't know about Bloom at this point. Jury is still out. Personally i might be much more supportive if I had some clue as to what his plan might be. I'm glad for you and the others here who believe that Bloom is the right guy for the job. I hope that you are right. I'm just not convinced at all that what he is doing is going to succeed in Boston. Whatever he does, this is his gig and constantly bringing DD and his moves has nothing to do with what he is doing now. I realize once again that you and others don't agree with that but that really is the way it goes. Real leaders learn from the past, they don't live in it.
  2. The picture the other day with him and Frank standing together was a good one.
  3. I grew up watching Bill Russell and the Celtics play when they were on. Most regular season games I had a radio stuck to my ear. "Go Up For Glory" was one of my favorite reads. He was certainly the greatest champion of all time. Giving anyone the label as the best ever is always debatable. We all have gotten caught up in these types of discussions for sure. What I've said is if you had a chance to build your own team, who would your first pick be? A tall, lanky, shot blocking, greyhound in the middle would be very tough to beat. Not to mention the fact that the only statistic that mattered to him was the one hanging off the scoreboard at the end of the game. To win every game was always his goal. My absolute favorite all time bb player. With his passing, a part of my youth takes a shot.
  4. good post - I agree
  5. Oh wow - If this in fact is what we might be looking at for next year, I just can't wait. Ouch - I'll read more books, play more golf, and fish a lot more.
  6. hmm - comes from the chairman or person of the PA committee.
  7. a bit of a generalization I think - neither applies to me
  8. No problem here - always been grumpy
  9. So do we have just an old guys category? How about a PA category for those who always end their comments with a challenge for anyone who disagrees with them. I'm an old guy but in many ways I'm going to guess that I'm a lot younger than some who post here. I'm grumpy as well. I don't really like the labelling much particularly in today's environment where everyone has a label it appears. On a forum like this, it is likely no one wins. Many of our illustrious posters on both sides of every issue think that they are 100% correct in their viewpoints. That makes me nervous. To me it means that no one is really willing to listen to anyone else. That often leads to the prersonal attacks. it is where we are today - sad. To be clear though you are an OM and I'm a GOM right ? Oh and also I do enjoy reading all of these comments made by our resident professionals with respect to every issue ever presented about everything. lol Keep on rolling I say.
  10. Sadly i think that Duran looks like another example of how we overrate some of our prospects. We want them to be so good so badly. Prospects are prospects
  11. I think that I have already said this once or twice. I honestly believe that his other irons in the fire are having a great effect on what we are seeing in Fenway. I 'm happy with what he has done in the past but I'm a lot more happy with what the bona fide stars that many of you say were overpaid did for us to win our championships. I do not believe that those contracts are affecting what he wants or plans to do going forward.
  12. It might be time to look ahead and not constantly behind. If Bloom was brought on board to economize in some way it has nothing to do with anything that has happened in the past. It so easy to look back and blame someone else for what some perceive as a mess. Any mess that has been created is with the blessing of current ownership and what their current approach might be. My guess would be that when Bloom took this job he new exactly what was going on and what was expected of him. Can we at least agree that he is intelligent. Based on what he has done since he came on board there has been very little to date that smells of much success. I understand injuries not goofy moves. I wish him luck. Without the big time financial support that each of JH's previous gms had, he might have a very difficult time in New England. Some of you have said that those of us who disagree with many of your takes are typical New England spoiled fans. In my case - you damn right I am. True New England sports fans like winners and have a low tolerance for losers. If that sounds pompous and a bit braggadocios, I have other ways I could say the same thing. And by the way, personally I will always feel the JH can afford to purchase anything he wants. He has proven that over and over and over. It's about priorities.
  13. I'm just saying that between Betts and Devers we have two players who just don't come along that often. I am so sick of people trying to tell me about Henry's budget when i don't think that they have one single idea about what they are talking. If he wanted them badly enough, we would have them. It has also been suggested that if we should start winning with no name talent, all would be forgiven and that life would go on. I disagree. Bloom or whoever has done what's been done to date has been much less than most would expect from a Red Sox franchise and I don't care who the owner or the GM is. I am not a spoiled fan either. I am realistic and to date it has been sickening. I hope things change. If I am expected to give JH credit for what has been accomplished in the past than I think anyone who questions the contracts to the warriors that helped us win our most recent World Championships for their past greatness presents the epitome of hypocrisy.
  14. I'm sorry my friend but beating Dombrowski to death is ridiculous. This has been a fun forum for me but obviously I am a fan of DD"s. I'm pretty sure that you know how I feel about a multi billionair's budget as well. Eventually the current administration has to take responsibility for what is going on.
  15. I've been saying the same thing for quite some time now. He could sign anyone that he chooses to sign. Unless something changes, Bloom's methodology will not fly in the northeast even if they should win more than they lose. JH wants people to pay attention to the sox, he needs to put a quality product on the field. We lost Betts - lose Devers another generational guy and and times will be tough for Bloom to survive in Boston. this is a large market team.
  16. This may be a painful post to some but it makes a lot of sense.
  17. Cool i guess. The night I saw him he was a massive stiff which i still think that he is.
  18. I saw Santana play in Portland last year. Well, they tried to play him anyway. His day is done. Once again, a nothing move.
  19. Hey you young whippersnapper, you think I don't recollect Mr. Aparichio in his hay day? I like Bogaerts because he speaks at a minimum of 4 languages and is actually intelligent. Plus when it comes to considering what a player has done for us in the past during negotiations, I think that it should be considered. John Henry clearly gets a pass from many here because of what the team has done in the past. I'm very surprised that all things Fenway haven't been reduced in price. Aren't you? Loyalty = 2 way street.
  20. I certainly do and will continue to question ownerships desire to actually acquire and retain great talent. We shall see.
  21. I'm cheering very loudly to bring him back but I haven't seen many "old schoolers" posting bringing him back at all costs. that would obviously be ridiculous. Did someone actually say that? I will agree though I might value him a lot more than the "metric guys". But we old schoolers can't figure out all of this new school metric stuff.
  22. Once again i think that you are absolutely right.
  23. Oh I don't know Bell, he just is. Also remember though I was very supportive of DD. Can you believe that? I believe that the trades he made were spot on. His longer range signings seem to have worked about as well as the great majority of Bloom's moves have to date. Obviously they didn't cost as much. I hope that they do get things straightened out because unlike some here I do happen to think that the fan base and ballpark revenue will drop greatly. Oh and it has nothing to do with anyone being spoiled. If I want to watch a AAA team compete I can find a much cheaper and more entertaining ballpark. I will say that I have been a fan since 1960 if not a few years before. In the dismal years, I always had at least one or two guys who could perform that I was able to get behind. HMMM - take Bogey and Devers out of this years mix and yup ok - I'll pay attention when Sale and Pivetta pitch.
  24. i think that you are absolutely right on here.
