  1. I've been saying the same thing for quite some time now. He could sign anyone that he chooses to sign. Unless something changes, Bloom's methodology will not fly in the northeast even if they should win more than they lose. JH wants people to pay attention to the sox, he needs to put a quality product on the field. We lost Betts - lose Devers another generational guy and and times will be tough for Bloom to survive in Boston. this is a large market team.
  2. This may be a painful post to some but it makes a lot of sense.
  3. Cool i guess. The night I saw him he was a massive stiff which i still think that he is.
  4. I saw Santana play in Portland last year. Well, they tried to play him anyway. His day is done. Once again, a nothing move.
  5. Hey you young whippersnapper, you think I don't recollect Mr. Aparichio in his hay day? I like Bogaerts because he speaks at a minimum of 4 languages and is actually intelligent. Plus when it comes to considering what a player has done for us in the past during negotiations, I think that it should be considered. John Henry clearly gets a pass from many here because of what the team has done in the past. I'm very surprised that all things Fenway haven't been reduced in price. Aren't you? Loyalty = 2 way street.
  6. I certainly do and will continue to question ownerships desire to actually acquire and retain great talent. We shall see.
  7. I'm cheering very loudly to bring him back but I haven't seen many "old schoolers" posting bringing him back at all costs. that would obviously be ridiculous. Did someone actually say that? I will agree though I might value him a lot more than the "metric guys". But we old schoolers can't figure out all of this new school metric stuff.
  8. Once again i think that you are absolutely right.
  9. Oh I don't know Bell, he just is. Also remember though I was very supportive of DD. Can you believe that? I believe that the trades he made were spot on. His longer range signings seem to have worked about as well as the great majority of Bloom's moves have to date. Obviously they didn't cost as much. I hope that they do get things straightened out because unlike some here I do happen to think that the fan base and ballpark revenue will drop greatly. Oh and it has nothing to do with anyone being spoiled. If I want to watch a AAA team compete I can find a much cheaper and more entertaining ballpark. I will say that I have been a fan since 1960 if not a few years before. In the dismal years, I always had at least one or two guys who could perform that I was able to get behind. HMMM - take Bogey and Devers out of this years mix and yup ok - I'll pay attention when Sale and Pivetta pitch.
  10. i think that you are absolutely right on here.
  11. Kind of like everybody makes the honor roll in our feel good about yourself and never be held accountable for anything era.
  12. hmmm - I'm still looking for this amazing influx of talent that we can expect to be overwhelmed by. Remember that we Red Sox fans can overate our minor leaguers with the best of them. Currently they are unwatchable. I had more fun watching them in the early 60's. At least we could hit.
  13. He is one of the best players in the game today. Signing Story to play second base I think was a good move. Signing him to replace Bogaerts I think is just ridiculously sad.
  14. Pretty much how I see it.
  15. Oh baby, another huge impressive signing. Who is that guy again?
  16. In my opinion it would be ridiculous if they did not resign both Bogaerts and Devers. The Story signing really does not look particularly brilliant at this time. He provides excellent defense at second base for us. Bogaerts continues to be more than adequate at shortstop and should remain there if resigned. I could care less that the flood of statistics that we get hit with say that Story is a better shortstop. Sometimes you make smart decisions based on other things.
  17. I hope that you are right about the farm buildup. There have been more players added to it for sure. We've all learned though that prospects are prospects until they actually show the ability to perform at the ml level. I can only speak for myself here but I have a tendency to get over excited and overly optimistic about the kids on the farm. At this point in time, I don't see one player at double or triple A that shouts out I'm the next guy. I'm not buying into the Casas hype until I actually see something outstanding from him when it counts. A huge buildup of farm mediocrity I guess can be a good thing if you use them the right way - including trades to get better.
  18. My biggest concern is that JH has decided that other things have taken on more importance in his life than the Boston Red Sox. Maybe there is a plan and maybe there isn't. None of us knows for sure what is going on here. I know that it is important to stay optimistic but simply based on the moves that have been made and those that haven't been made, I'm concerned about the the team going forward.
  19. That is the point isn't it? How badly does JH want to win these days? It is certainly a pleasant thought that we could be Tampa north I'm sure. Relying on unproven prospects regardless of their newspaper clippings and aging AAA veterans might not be the way to go. It doesn't have to be one or the other. And before it is mentioned again, I am aware of what the current red Sox payroll is.
  20. Well I can safely speak to one of your points. The kids play enough and in some instances too much. Baseball much like basketball and soccer have expanded programs that make the days of seeing a 3 sport athlete unique.
  21. I would add that although a youth movement can be exciting. If your youth movement consists of young people who really haven't shown that they do in fact belong at the major league level, you likely will not be successful no matter how much you want to sell it.
  22. I have heard the word professionalism mentioned here once or twice. Obviously it means different things to different people. The first offer made by ownership (if it is to be believed) to Devers smacked of unprofessionalism by ownership in my estimation. I do not think that they will wind up keeping him. That being the case, many lifelong fans are going to be deeply disappointed.
  23. Don't you think that it is evident that these three are greatly needed and likely greatly needed in the future? On this team, they kind of look like they stand alone. Trading any one of them for prospects or really for ever, sends a clear message. One that I am not going to like if it should happen.
  24. Without Bogaerts, Martinez, and Devers, where would this team be?
