  1. I think fans think about much more than simply one thing. Personally I know my role in the big scheme of things. i'm not the owner and I'm not the GM. I have no inside track with respect to what they might be thinking. I tend to think that I'm not unusual as a fan. I do believe that injuries likely hurt us and I do believe that management felt that if healthy this group would be able to compete. We had the injuries and we did not compete. It looks to me as though we have many holes which are going to be tough to fill moving forward. I know all about small sample sizes too. i've been educated. But, I'm longingly waiting for Casas to get his next hit. I've never felt that he was a sure lock to be our next All-Star first baseman.
  2. I wish that I could answer this one. We have shortstops in the system who may or may not be very good in the future. I think that this team has holes that are going to be extremely tough to fill.
  3. I agree that hiring Boras is likely about having someone in your corner who has the reputation of getting people the big bucks. It's possible that Bogaerts retained him at the same time thinking that the Sox would be in the hunt this year as well as the next few. I hope that he gets what he wants. As a fan, he has been easy to cheer for.
  4. Everything you said here I think is true. it also doesn't make anyone less of a fan if they don't labor over things that they literally have no control over such as the Red Sox supposed budget, payroll, and luxury taxes.
  5. I think that for what 4 or 5 of the posters here, concern over how large a budget JH has or might have is very important. Most of us understand the risks involved by spending too much on any commodity. You are not the only ones. It is just it seems a much much larger concern to some than others. Not caring as much about payroll or luxury taxes does not in any way imply that those of us who don't care as much as you do about them don't understand the implications they might carry. With respect to Bogaerts, as much as I would like to see him come back, I wouldn't blame him if he went elsewhere. At this point in his career, if he wants to play on a winner maybe his best bet is to leave.
  6. My guess is that most fans could care less how much Bogaerts gets as long as he stays in Boston. If he leaves - yup there will be lots of questions then. Many fans don't feel the same sense of despair when JH chooses to "overpay" anyone.
  7. Since the return for making the trades would have been little, I'm thinking that fans would be less interested than they are now. As a fan, I'm not particularly interested in making decisions today that might make us better in what 2,3,4 years. The Red Sox are not my idea of buying and selling in the stock market. They are here for entertainment. If the product continues to suck, I'll hold my nose and use my time in other ways. that being said, I am still interested in watched Bello develop, and in seeing Sale return. I want him to prove the doubters wrong. That'll keep me watching for awhile.
  8. I don't know anything about Boston sports writers in particular . I do know something about team chemistry. My definition of it likely isn't the same as yours.
  9. probably not the word I would choose but it's cora's to figure out who needs to be coddled and who needs to be kicked in the ass. i don't think that it would have made much of a difference with respect to winning and losing this year - they are just bad.
  10. I believe in good team chemistry. I believe it makes a big difference in the overall performance of a team. I have seen many many teams win when it really didn't look like they had a chance to win. i really don't have anything to say about the chemistry of this year's team. I could care less about what the sports media tries to feed me. If there are issues in the Red Sox clubhouse then it is up to Cora to deal with them. Regardless of the fact that these are grown men playing professionally they still want and need to be coached.
  11. I tend to agree with you. It's worth watching though. You learn a lot more about what a team is all about when you experience losing as opposed to winning.
  12. Absolutely right! The more yap you hear from the inmates, the more the manager needs to be involved. Players expressing themselves on the outside quite often isn't a good thing.
  13. Team chemistry begins and ends with the coach and the way he relates to his players. I think that players like playing for Cora which can be a very good thing but depending on the type of player you are working with it can present some problems.
  14. It will be very interesting to see what Henry decides to do this off-season. I think that he hears much of the talk and that it does affect him. If attendance goes down, he will make some changes I think. They could be big ones.
  15. of course I did. lol
  16. Of course I do. Shifts have been around a while. What data have you seen that has been gathered to support robotic calling of strikes and balls. I guess if I thought that bad calls were just running rampant in the game, maybe I would change my mind. You have to understand that the world I operate is in imperfect and for the most part I still like it.
  17. This is where I disagree with you. And I think that is ok. Umpires and referees in general are big part of the games we watch and play. I like that. i can live with the few games lost because of what I might think are bad calls.
  18. I just can't understand how anyone who is into the data aspect as some seem to be here, how they could not favor using the data to encourage shifting.
  19. And i truly believe that anytime you take a human element away from the game it becomes less enjoyable to watch. I don't need it to be perfect.
  20. Am I hearing you say that some of our advanced metric data collecting zealots shouldn't be criticizing someone who doesn't want to robotic umpires? lol Some times there is a method to someone's madness.
  21. Did I call you hypocritical?
  22. Analytical data is used to help with the placement of fielders in positions to limit an opponents offensive production. How can anyone who supports the use of such data to do this ever support a rule to limit its use without being hypocritical?
  23. I'm not sure that I phrased this correctly. I'm an analytical person in general but no amount of data scrutiny would make me want to see rules limiting teams from favoring shifts. It has always been part of the game.
  24. Doesn't it seem a tad hypocritical for the people who take their analytics or data or whatever seriously to be opposed to any new rule such as this?
  25. So I hear you saying that you are opposed to a new rule limiting shifts?
