  1. I think that the amounts of money being thrown around today whether by the owners or to the players is obscene and has done nothing to improve the games fan appeal. We ain't going back I guess. I would also like to think that there is some method to the Red Sox madness, but what sign have they given to us that they have any intention of locking any of our hopefuls up long term? If there was some apparent plan other than something some suggest, maybe a few more fans could get behind them. Right now to me, they just look like a bunch of bumblers going along with no apparent clue.
  2. Here is one that I agree with you on. I can in all honesty say that regardless of how anyone feels about the Sale contract, if it wasn't for my interest in him coming back, baseball for the first time in my life would not be a consideration with respect to my summer's entertainment. I guess that I am likely not your typical "old" Red sox fan but there might be a few others out there like me. I have loved this team and followed them religiously since the mid fifties but I can't remember a time when I have been this disgusted with the team's management. If they were to bring up some of our young players who most assume are not ready for prime time, and make a commitment to their futures then I would be interested in them. As for now, i really do think that what they have done is pathetic. If they are signing players currently that I could care less about, thinking that they can win with them, I would simply say that winning isn't everything. If this makes me a spoiled Red Sox fan who is unappreciative of the John Henry era, so be it. I am at least curious about the futures of players like Bello, Mayer, Casas, and Houck, and anyone else who has been brought along by our program.
  3. I'm not sure that servitude is the correct word to use in this instance. I'm kind of thinking that the events of the early 70's changed the way contracts were approached for sure. .
  4. I think that you are absolutely right. It is a loyalty thing as well. I think that there is a misconception that winning it all is the hook that most fans believe in. I find Bloom and the way business is currently being done to be a huge turnoff.
  5. Watching those competitive teams during the 70's and 80's gave me a lot of joy. They competed. Personally it isn't all about winning the title.
  6. Don't take your hat off when the great impaler rides through town.
  7. I have absolutely no idea what goes on inside their clubhouse but I don't think that losing players with the reputation Bogaerts has can in anyway be a good thing. He is the type of quality that good teams have to have.
  8. I agree. I don't know if he has to be dealt but I'm pretty sure that he will be. We have seen absolutely nothing to suggest otherwise.
  9. What have you been hearing about the clubhouse? If I was trying to make a point it would have been that the elimination of quality homegrown talent that has constantly proven to be positive with respect to attitude in the clubhouse can be very harmful to a team's success. I keep hearing about how attitude really doesn't make that much of a difference. Obviously i disagree .
  10. Personally, I would be better off if Bloom would just shut his mouth and do whatever it is he thinks it is that he needs to do. It is fairly clear in my mind that his way of doing this might work for some but certainly doesn't for me and it will make no difference moving forward if we win or not. Not retaining A+ home grown talent if it is conceivable, represents wrong to this fan.
  11. As close as he is to X, this would not be a surprise to me at all. Losing the clubhouse is a distinct possibility as well. This isn't strat-o-matic baseball where overall attitude doesn't have to be considered. I will always be a fan of the team but likely not management the way things have gone for awhile now.
  12. there is an old saying - fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. It is really quite difficult for me to imagine how anyone can expect the Red Sox to all of a sudden come to their senses and actually sign a wonderfully talented home grown talent. They might even peddle the same old garbage about doing everything they can do to sign him. I'm not buying that line again. the way Bloom has played things, the best thing that he could do would be to trade him at some point.
  13. I'm with you. It makes me sad and no amount of winning is going to make me a fan of this crap.
  14. I think that the approach of the franchise has definitely changed. I won't be putting any money on the comments that come out of the mouths of any of them. If they do not trade Devers, with the type of approach that it appears they have then they are fools basically. And personally if I actually listen to anything that they are saying about what they are trying to do contract wise, then I am a fool.
  15. Wow is all i got. the face of the franchise is gone. That sucks and for all that he gave to this team on and off the field, he will be sorely missed. Best of look to him. A class act who should still be in a Red Sox uniform.
  16. So, is this the way of the future for the fans. You get as much as you can out of home grown talents and if they happen to be very very good, you trade them for fear of them not being able to perform for the remainder of any new contract unless of course they take the discount offered by management? I don't think that it is unusual for people to be upset by this. This I think would be a huge change with respect to the way the Sox have operated. There are some players you just don't let get away.
  17. Numerous times we have heard from Red Sox management that the signing of Bogaerts was a very very high priority. I think going forward, if he signs with anyone else for a number that the Red Sox could have matched if they had chosen to, then in the future they just should say nothing to us about their goals. It is a crappy way to do business and they will stand the chance of alienating even more of their fan base.
  18. So if he goes somewhere else at a price that the Red Sox could certainly have afforded they were right about the market I guess but they had no intention of signing him in the first place. In the eyes of many, that would make the Red Sox wrong.
  19. I doubt that they will be upgrading if he leaves and personally yup I think that they should be blamed.
  20. It is a chance that every team has to take on occasion. it is kind of like timing the market. Now if Bogaerts is allowed to get away because of the money he is asking for and the Red Sox still mange to somehow upgrade this team in general, then maybe it's good. I
  21. Personally I consider Peter Gammons to be a very reliable source!
  22. I hope that you are wrong. have to wait and see what unfolds I guess. And like I said I won't officially join Bashers Anonymous until we do find out what becomes of Bogey.
  23. Well if this is the case, I'm willing to wait for the whole story to come out before I enter in on the discussion. I can say though that if Boston did not make an honest attempt to sign him, I will not be selective with my "Bashing". I'll bash them all. I also will consider it pathetic of them if they resort to the free agent market to replace him.
  24. You are right for sure. Now Bloom might be doing a decent job bringing people in that can at least play a little. I think that part of my problem has been that I have listened to the people claiming how much he has built up the farm. I agree that he has but until he pulls off some big time trades with all of this very average talent that he has brought in, I'm going to remain very skeptical with respect to the job that he has done, is doing, and will do. Of course he gets high grades for adding players to the program. I wish that they were better players.
  25. My God - We now have two of them waxing prolifically in an attempt to baffle us with the ******** I think. I cannot read that much without a bit of a nodoff. when people go on and on about what Bloom has done with the farm, I would say what has he done? Anyone would have drafted Mayer. As for most of the rest- AAAA at best. I know I know - he doesn't have the money! It is possible that he just can't get it done.
