  1. And this might be one of my biggest gripes about Alex Cora. Every player should not be treated like a utility player. learning to play one position at any level is hard enough. it is extremely difficult at the major league level. he flip flops repeatedly and I just don't like it. he does it with pitchers as well as position players.
  2. Honestly, I don't think either of those moves are bad moves. Gives us a very capable center fielder and a second baseman who can field it and provide some power punch. There are other obvious holes in the everyday lineup that if not addressed we likely won't be much better next year even if our luck is better.
  3. You can't smoke a cigar on the sidelines anymore. Makes a towel wave a must. Nobody tops M.L. Carr.
  4. Oh you mean like Story?
  5. bbb is one of the best forms of alliteration that I have seen in years. A+
  6. Is there a metric used to measure that and if so what is its name? (I know that you can think of a good one.)
  7. Well what i would say Bell is this - In professional sports in general, who isn't overpaid? Who is WAR and is he signing the checks? Are you sure his name isn't Cliff? His name comes up often when discussing the sox here. (all meant to be a joke. just having fun.)
  8. This is a bad baseball team that really may or may not be any better next year. Schwarber would have helped them this year as well as next. We all know that you can never have enough pitching but having a threat like Schwarber in the middle of the lineup would not be bad.
  9. It was a big mistake not to bring Schwarber back.
  10. the rays get no one to come watch their games
  11. My plan is to go do something constructive as soon as this gd rain stops.
  12. damned capitalists!!!
  13. Hmmm - He makes my all minor league team in some capacity lol
  14. Hopefully no one is giving up on him. I would just rather talk about him as opposed to how the Red Sox might scrimp and save or spend big going forward. whatever floats your boat I guess. I hope that he succeeds but he is no sure thing regardless of how big he is or what the scouts might say.
  15. Lars Anderson - hope not
  16. I think fans think about much more than simply one thing. Personally I know my role in the big scheme of things. i'm not the owner and I'm not the GM. I have no inside track with respect to what they might be thinking. I tend to think that I'm not unusual as a fan. I do believe that injuries likely hurt us and I do believe that management felt that if healthy this group would be able to compete. We had the injuries and we did not compete. It looks to me as though we have many holes which are going to be tough to fill moving forward. I know all about small sample sizes too. i've been educated. But, I'm longingly waiting for Casas to get his next hit. I've never felt that he was a sure lock to be our next All-Star first baseman.
  17. I wish that I could answer this one. We have shortstops in the system who may or may not be very good in the future. I think that this team has holes that are going to be extremely tough to fill.
  18. I agree that hiring Boras is likely about having someone in your corner who has the reputation of getting people the big bucks. It's possible that Bogaerts retained him at the same time thinking that the Sox would be in the hunt this year as well as the next few. I hope that he gets what he wants. As a fan, he has been easy to cheer for.
  19. Everything you said here I think is true. it also doesn't make anyone less of a fan if they don't labor over things that they literally have no control over such as the Red Sox supposed budget, payroll, and luxury taxes.
  20. I think that for what 4 or 5 of the posters here, concern over how large a budget JH has or might have is very important. Most of us understand the risks involved by spending too much on any commodity. You are not the only ones. It is just it seems a much much larger concern to some than others. Not caring as much about payroll or luxury taxes does not in any way imply that those of us who don't care as much as you do about them don't understand the implications they might carry. With respect to Bogaerts, as much as I would like to see him come back, I wouldn't blame him if he went elsewhere. At this point in his career, if he wants to play on a winner maybe his best bet is to leave.
  21. My guess is that most fans could care less how much Bogaerts gets as long as he stays in Boston. If he leaves - yup there will be lots of questions then. Many fans don't feel the same sense of despair when JH chooses to "overpay" anyone.
  22. Since the return for making the trades would have been little, I'm thinking that fans would be less interested than they are now. As a fan, I'm not particularly interested in making decisions today that might make us better in what 2,3,4 years. The Red Sox are not my idea of buying and selling in the stock market. They are here for entertainment. If the product continues to suck, I'll hold my nose and use my time in other ways. that being said, I am still interested in watched Bello develop, and in seeing Sale return. I want him to prove the doubters wrong. That'll keep me watching for awhile.
  23. I don't know anything about Boston sports writers in particular . I do know something about team chemistry. My definition of it likely isn't the same as yours.
  24. probably not the word I would choose but it's cora's to figure out who needs to be coddled and who needs to be kicked in the ass. i don't think that it would have made much of a difference with respect to winning and losing this year - they are just bad.
  25. I believe in good team chemistry. I believe it makes a big difference in the overall performance of a team. I have seen many many teams win when it really didn't look like they had a chance to win. i really don't have anything to say about the chemistry of this year's team. I could care less about what the sports media tries to feed me. If there are issues in the Red Sox clubhouse then it is up to Cora to deal with them. Regardless of the fact that these are grown men playing professionally they still want and need to be coached.
