  1. No one really knows until they get yarded out there and have the chance to play against the best players in the world. We could all probably make the right call on who "looks" physically ready to play at the ml level and that is about it. Even then the call is apt not to be right.
  2. this made me chuckle - #1 and #2 and a bunch of little bastards. Brian Johnson just had a great start for Lowell. It's possible that pretty soon he might join the bastard battalion . All kidding aside, wouldn't you think that one of these guys would be able to get us to the sixth inning on occasion anyway.
  3. Or reading the same reports published that we all see and read and watching the available video. Believe it or not some of us are as educated and as up to date as you are. We just might not agree with you. What I love is redundancy and condescension.
  4. Holding on to him would be the reality. It would not have been a bad thing either. Any general manager of a club not in total rebuild could lose his job for trading a pitcher like Pomeranz for a single A prospect years away from the majors. the Sox just don't have to operate in rebuild mode. Many would have wanted more than just Espinoza as good as he might someday be.
  5. Not at all!
  6. here is a wrench in the works for you - Maybe DD has little confidence that our boys can develop a starting pitcher from a prospect. It has been done so rarely as been noted numerous times. If I had to place a bet based on the odds, I would bet against the organizations ability to develop a young pitching prospect. Just being a little sarcastic - we have done fairly well without producing the pitchers that some others have. i like Dombrowski. i like the fact that our program is being run by an adult who is tough and who has a proven track record of success. He wants to win now and in the future as well.
  7. hope he doesn't pitch when I am down there - lol - wait maybe I do! Wouldn't mind seeing a good young pitcher do his thing for us in Fenway!
  8. the sky has fallen
  9. Come on - don't you get it! This trade jeopardizes the future of this team. to hell with the next 5 years. We are talking future - future here.
  10. Out of curiosity, what would you expect to get for an 18 year old bluechip prospect who is years away from playing in the major leagues? If he was at the AA or AAA level and was pitching well I would agree with you. There is always a risk involved with any trade but the odds look good for The Red Sox on this one.
  11. Now I get this for sure but if the objective was to acquire a pitcher this year from the available list which included Pomeranz and Teheran for sure, it was going to take a big time prospect to get one of them or a whole bunch of really pretty good ones. Very likely could have cost us Benintendi or I shudder to think even Moncada. Both of whom are on the verge of helping us now and for many years. For the record, kopech who looks very good and is a lot closer to boston than Espinoza is still with us. The other option was to do very little or maybe nothing at all. I'm not happy that we are losing Espinoza but I understand the move. We are better now and quite possibly for the foreseeable future.
  12. This is so so true. I think that it has to do with the long winters. f*** being happy. We just gave up a kid who has had some really good s*** written about him and if we are willing to wait 5 years may be good for a 27 year old All-star who might just be coming into his own. Our future (5+ years from now) has just been sold down the river. While Im on my rant - these 90* days make me long for 3 feet of snow in my driveway.
  13. You certainly are entitled to express yourself here Hugh. It is encouraged. It does kind of look though that you are reading the same information that most of us have read. You are entitled to your opinions but I don't think that you brought anything new to the table with respect to Espinoza. We have all seen the videos and read the reports from everything we can find on him. No one likes the fact that he is gone but the reality is that he is multiple years away from playing at the major league level. With this trade the Red sox got better not just for today but for the foreseeable future.
  14. I was thinking this as well. Kopech is young strong and closer to being with us for sure.
  15. Agree completely!!! Have to have faith in someone who has a track record of successful deals.
  16. Eddy it sounds like maybe you have seen Moncada. Although it is premature, I think comparing him to the best in the game physically and offensively is not much of a stretch. Once they figure out where they are going to use him, I think that anything he might lack defensively he will much more than make up for on the offensive side. He is my only untouchable prospect. If he had a place to play and was remotely competent at it, he would be changing his address very soon.
  17. For what it is worth, i would trade anyone not named Moncada in our system for that on young starting pitcher. (He just isn't out there right now) I would not give much for Hill I'm afraid. The arguement about the redundancy of position players i guess i just don't get. The organization has an obligation to play their best players. It is their job to put them on the field.
  18. i like our outfield with JBJ and Betts in it going forward. So I guess to answer your question, no I would not substitute JBJ for Benintendi. I would say that the only player that I would not trade in our minor league system though for the right guy would be Moncada. I get that both Espinoza and Koppech are projected highly. the key word here is projected. They are both a long way away plus I like the young cost controlled starting pitcher who is already experiencing some success at the big league level to the player who really hasn't shown much just yet at the minor league level. I'm like most of us all but if it took one of those two plus to get the right arm, I wouldn't think twice about it. The bigger question i think is what young cost controlled young arms are even available. I'm guessing that DD adds a 4/5 and doesn't give away a great deal in the process.
  19. I tend to agree with you in general but calling Travis redundant in the system? Who isn't? I would not trade either Devers or Travis for Hill. Maybe we wouldn't get him. Oh well. We have just a small sample of Travis so far. I like what I saw. He can hit.
  20. I'm kind of on the same page as Papi when it comes to Fernandez and Encarnarcion though. It's just a dream for sure but if I found out tomorrow that Benintendi and a healthy package of prospects could pry Fernandez out of Miami's death grip, I would be on board for sure. If it meant substituting Moncada for Benintendi, I would not do it.
  21. Got it and i agree with you. I'm a little defensive because I believe that Moncada is a potential once in a generation type player. I'm very serious when I say that I really don't remember a player with the combination of skills that this kid has in our system. I also think that Benintendi could be very very good.
  22. I see no reason to "rush" Moncada to the big club. i also see no reason to "rush" our second best prospect either.
  23. That is too bad. I think that a lot of people would be saying a great deal more about Moncada if they actually had a chance to see him. Even just once! I've been involved in athletics forever and he is the real deal.
