  1. Which is part of the reason I was surprised he was lukewarm about Schilling getting in the HOF. Schilling is 8th all-time in that stat, and most of the guys ahead of him are still active with much shorter careers.
  2. There are a bunch of otherwise good hitters who had horrible 2020 numbers. A good place to start might be the Cubs. Baez .599, Rizzo .755, Bryant .701. (Bryant had some injury issues, I guess.) On the flip side, Heyward .848. Kind of screams small sample variances.
  3. Not from everyone, and not from Nick.
  4. Not Chris Davis - Khris Davis.
  5. The fact is that both deserve credit.
  6. Being a pessimist after Game 3 of the 2004 ALCS doesn't even count as being a pessimist.
  7. I probably didn't make it clear enough, but when I said I was an optimist I was really only referring to the state of the Red Sox.
  8. You shouldn't be a total pessimist about this team. 4 rings, and we've got Henry, Bloom and Cora. (And Venable and Varitek etc.) And not far from a contending team.
  9. Here's why it would be nice to sign Porcello on a reasonable deal. He would provide some insurance against the various health and durability issues inherent in that rotation.
  10. Not for me. I strike a balance between optimist and realist.
  11. And I agree with that. But the nice part about being an optimist is that you feel better up until you find out whether you're right or not.
  12. My attitude is that it doesn't hurt to be optimistic about things like this. Whether you're optimistic or pessimistic, it's not going to change anything.
  13. I think he can adapt.
  14. 3 reasons: -Short season -COVID-19 issues -Change in video room rules I think JDM is a true professional with a lot of pride and he comes back strong in 2021.
  15. So Dan Duquette has 7 kids and lives in Sandwich, Mass. There has to be a future Red Sox executive somewhere in that brood.
  16. What it we trade Vaz to the Rays, and take back Kiermaier in the same trade? What would that net us in value?
  17. You're talking about Dombrowski too.
  18. Slightly more unlikely than some of the other trade proposals we have on here, that's what I'd call it.
  19. Sounds more like Dombrowski.
  20. I just read Dan's bio. Wow, did not know he and his wife have seven kids.
  21. As you know, some of these niceties are lost on Ghost. But at least he's being affable.
  22. I think he had some tweets about things not looking good for Cora's return before it happened. Maybe he's just a touch on the pessimistic side.
  23. Something about a Styx song.
  24. That's about the only move so far that showed willingness to pay top dollar to anyone, though.
  25. There are also a few teams like the Reds in obvious payroll-shedding mode.
