I think you might be a little quick on the draw, writing him off after 540 PA's, the equivalent of one season, with a 728 OPS. But skepticism certainly appears to be warranted. -

Yeah, what makes me a little nervous is that the Sox may be taking the stance that if you're not all-in, you might as well punt and keep the money.

They've got $30 million to spend without paying any tax. If they don't spend it, it's basically just staying in JH's pocket. So spend it. If it's spent wisely the team has a shot at a wild card spot.

Red Sox Nation in general is not in top spirits these days. Interest in the team has been sagging. Losing Mookie was a bummer. We thought the tax re-set would lead to a somewhat exciting offseason. Instead it's been a snorefest from start to finish. Maybe that will change in the upcoming weeks. But it's hard to know what Henry and the front office are really thinking.

Yikes - can you imagine if they did that with a significant, reported Red Sox signing?

Yeah, we've been kind of assuming we at least sign Odorizzi, but maybe he's too expensive too. Maybe Henry put the clamps on the budget altogether because of COVID losses.

Must mean last offseason and this one. Sale and Bogaerts extensions were in 2018-2019 offseason. As was Eovaldi signing.
