  1. That's one way to put it. He had a career-ending injury rendering him of no use to any team, sadly.
  2. Pedroia is an odd choice for a comparison. Kiermaier's contract is underwater, that's the real point.
  3. At the same time, Morton and Snell being gone represent a significant reduction from last year's payroll.
  4. Not expensively, though.
  5. Now that they've cut loose Morton and Snell, one salary like that may not matter to them so much.
  6. We may have to settle for just Bradley Hand.
  7. Cesar Gonzalez P Albert Guiamaro OF Simon Muzziotti OF Antonio Pinero IF Eduardo Torrealba IF
  8. Bonafides - I like this.
  9. Bauer is actually a much worse bet than Price was IMO. He has posted 19.9 fWAR in 1190 innings. That's about 3 WAR per 180 innings, which is good but far from great. His value is being inflated by the Recency Effect.
  10. Bauer is reportedly looking for 5-6 years at $36 mill per year. Maybe part of the reason things are going slowly is that most players are expecting to get the same kind of deals they would get in a 'normal' offseason. Also: there's really no difference whatever between this thread and the offseason thread, is there? No big deal, except it's a bit of a pain posting news items on both threads.
  11. And I think most of the ones who've signed are the low-end guys.

  13. You should ask how the 'median' projection for Castillo is a little over 6 WAR per year for 3 years.
  14. Did it really say that? I thought the dumbest part was about the Snell trade, and how the heck did Bloom miss out on that? Should have been cake to beat the Padres' offer! Really stupid stuff.
  15. You mean you're worried he is getting ready to sell the team.
  16. The fact is that a tiny % of free agents have been signed to date. I'm still hopeful that Bloom has a better plan than you seem to think.
  17. Sounds like you see only two possible courses of action: 1) an ill-advised splashy free agent signing; or 2) doing next to nothing.
  18. A mindless piece, if you ask me. A tiny % of free agents have been signed to date.
  19. Could sign Kluber and Odorizzi, plus Hand or Bradley...that will add up too, mind you.
  20. Free agent starters who are good, durable, and affordable are hard to come by.
  21. Paxton's health is about as reliable as Eovaldi's. Rather have Porcello.
  22. Are you including this offseason as one of the 'last two offseasons'? In 2019 the Red Sox had the #1 payroll. In 2020 they had the #3 payroll - obviously without doing much new spending, but contracts already in place count too!
  23. Change a few names, and much the same applies to the Yankees. What's your team right now?
  24. My thoughts exactly.
  25. I see no reason whatsoever to be suspicious about the commitment of ownership.
