  1. I'd say Red Sox fans have a lot more patience with good hitters/bad fielders than with good fielders/bad hitters. Maybe it's the same with all fans.
  2. 2 rentals. We can add Ian Kinsler to make it 3. I don't necessarily agree with Max's theory, but it's an interesting one.
  3. Yep. Jays are 11-5 Yankees are 11-7 4-2 is par.
  4. Yeah, he only whines about those nasty fans who boo...
  5. I agree, but they're going to go with the system they think generates the most fan interest and money.
  6. You tell him Nick.
  7. Max does have a point, though. In spite of our horrible defense and the effect on the pitching, the team is outperforming expectations. So did Bloom do a great job or a questionable job? I think he did a good job, overall. It's been an enjoyable, if nutty, season so far.
  8. Rodney Freakin' Dangerfield LOL
  9. Winning 2 of 3 in Seattle, after a depressing loss in the first game, is the most encouraging thing we've seen from the team in a while. And you have to like Schwarber.
  10. Bobby is taking walks at last.
  11. Baseball is full of mysteries.
  12. That man on second base rule really adds a note of wackiness to extra innings.
  13. There are lots of losses where the pitching, hitting or defense could all be blamed. The runs calculations are the only ones that have much meaning.
  14. Well, we've established that our defense is bad and has cost us a lot of runs. But it doesn't necessarily mean Bloom did bad things by acquiring guys like Renfroe or Schwarber, either. You'd have to call it a conscious decision to sacrifice defense for offense... Now if guys are playing bad defense because of bad coaching that's a different story...
  15. So now we have to look up his GIDP opportunities?
  16. 500 PAs is a lot. Let's face it, Dalbec turned it around in the nick of time, just before the team was ready to give up on him too. And you can't really blame posters for giving up on Cordero or Marwin or Santana...
  17. Of course, we have players who are pluses on offense and minuses on defense, like Devers, and you can't really separate the two. You can only have one DH.
  18. And FanGraphs shows Bogaerts at +6.5 RAR (Runs Above Replacement) on defense. One of our few on the plus side.
  19. A statement like that could use a little elaboration.
  20. And my point is that Bloom put together a bad defensive team to start the year, and did nothing, or maybe less than nothing, to address it at the deadline, so he has to own this terrible defense.
  21. I don't think anything can top that one.
