  1. Well, we've established that our defense is bad and has cost us a lot of runs. But it doesn't necessarily mean Bloom did bad things by acquiring guys like Renfroe or Schwarber, either. You'd have to call it a conscious decision to sacrifice defense for offense... Now if guys are playing bad defense because of bad coaching that's a different story...
  2. So now we have to look up his GIDP opportunities?
  3. 500 PAs is a lot. Let's face it, Dalbec turned it around in the nick of time, just before the team was ready to give up on him too. And you can't really blame posters for giving up on Cordero or Marwin or Santana...
  4. Of course, we have players who are pluses on offense and minuses on defense, like Devers, and you can't really separate the two. You can only have one DH.
  5. And FanGraphs shows Bogaerts at +6.5 RAR (Runs Above Replacement) on defense. One of our few on the plus side.
  6. A statement like that could use a little elaboration.
  7. And my point is that Bloom put together a bad defensive team to start the year, and did nothing, or maybe less than nothing, to address it at the deadline, so he has to own this terrible defense.
  8. I don't think anything can top that one.
  9. Even assuming that the whole purpose of trading for Schwarber was to replace Dalbec, how could Schwarber be a guaranteed upgrade defensively? He was a complete unknown quantity at the position.
  10. I don't really get your Dalbec argument. Even if Dalbec's bat stayed cold and he was replaced by Schwarber, the complaint is that Schwarber is not a first baseman, so he wasn't a defensive upgrade over Dalbec, no matter how bad Dalbec was doing at first. So Chaim had a bad defensive team and made it worse. Now whether he could have done anything differently is debatable. But the complaints about pieces not fitting and terrible defense are valid, I think.
  11. We miss him in the field, but not at the plate.
  12. Nobody ever accused us of knowing how to put together a baseball team, though.
  13. Anything can happen, but when you look at run differential, the Jays are legit. They have a better differential than the Rays now. The Yankees differential, OTOH, is lower than ours.
  14. Can we ban the troll please?
  15. Bloom took a bad defensive team and made it worse with Schwarber.
  16. The Dodgers will pay whatever it takes for Scherzer.
  17. Right, but Schwarber is not a first baseman. That piece don't fit.
  18. No, but it is starting to feel like the Bataan Death March...
  19. It all started because he has an opt out after 2022 and there seems a good chance he'll exercise it.
  20. I'm afraid Bloom assembled a team, including the addition of Schwarber, in which the pieces just don't fit together.
  21. Well, look at this way, if we didn't have such a great first half, we'd be toast now.
  22. Today I'm actually helping harmony's case.
  23. An inauspicious first inning for Gil.
  24. How about these for the Rays? 1-6 v SEA 1-2 v DET 3-4 vs TEX 1-3 vs WSN
