  1. In the context of what the mega stars make, $1 mill is still chump change. If the player only stays a year or two, it's usually because they're just not good enough. It's free enterprise and capitalism in operation.
  2. Minimum wage is still close to $600 K for major leaguers, though, right? That's a living wage. If they're not good enough to graduate to the higher pay levels, so be it. I just don't see this as a big issue. Arb salaries have certainly been on the rise.
  3. Sorry cp, but having played some golf, I know there's nobody who likes their technological upgrades more than golfers!
  4. If we lose part of the 2022 season, fans are going to be furious. They just went through a 60 game season in 2020. Not that fans being furious will affect anything...
  5. Yeah, but do you or your golf buddies use technological aids to get your distance to the flag now?
  6. I don't think anyone has suggested there are more blown calls than before. Technology does make the bad calls more obvious, that's a fact. And it makes people wonder why, if it can be done by technology, we don't eliminate the bad calls? And the technological tabulations have confirmed things like the fact that Laz Diaz is one of the very worst at calling balls and strikes. Which makes people wonder why he was doing so in the ALCS.
  7. You can't really compare pro athletes to regular workers. Most pro athletes have short careers. And only a small percentage get those absurd contracts you're talking about. And it's the owners who voluntarily sign them to those contracts. They sign them because they think the player will make the team win more games and attract more fans and generate more revenue.
  8. And how comical/tragic would it be if we manually timed Olympic sprints?
  9. Max, you keep talking about the rectangle and the height differences. I would guess that most of the really bad calls that people complain about are errors to do with the width of the strike zone, which has nothing to do with height. Also, I'm pretty sure that there will be player height adjustments when the time comes...
  10. Looks cool, thanks.
  11. It's not just the 30 IP sample sizes. It's the fact that our pitching was so good this year when factoring in the high BAbip, as you have noted.
  12. Sorry man, you totally confound me on this issue. First you say the difference with Houck is not that great. Then you list differences that are smaller.
  13. Do I value them? I find them very interesting. And I'm not so much looking at the differences between Vaz and Plaw as I am looking at how crazy good the numbers were with Vaz. I'm certainly not denying the premise that some pitchers do better with some catchers. Obviously managers pay attention to it.
  14. No one is saying it's strange. In the postseason managers go with the guy they have the most confidence in. In the final games of the 2013 postseason, Farrell went exclusively with Ross. In the final games of the 2018 postseason, Cora went exclusively with Vaz.
  15. I'm going to trot these numbers out again: 2021 catcher splits Houck Vazquez 38.1 IP 2.11 ERA .536 OPS Plawecki 30.2 IP 5.28 ERA .693 OPS Whitlock Vazquez 63.2 IP 1.55 ERA .583 OPS Plawecki 9.2 IP 4.66 ERA .909 OPS Small samples, of course, but you have to consider the possibility that Vaz did amazingly well with these two, who may be the most valuable pitchers on the staff considering their ages and years of control. I would be hesitant to move Vaz and his not exorbitant $7 million salary based on those numbers alone.
  16. Now what are you talking about? A kilogram of marijuana equals about 2.2 pounds of marijuana. Same weight, differently expressed.
  17. Yes, and like with Vazquez. Case closed?
  18. In Canada we use a hilarious mishmash of the metric, Imperial and American systems.
  19. Right, because they have more information than you. Better information.
  20. Go ahead and explain, Professor. I need the enlightenment.
  21. And why did you skip my point about Vaz playing over the better-hitting Plawecki?
  22. How's it wrong?
  23. It actually works with inches too. And you can even say something like 5.88 feet tall, and not be wrong.
  24. How 'bout that, moon? Of course it's all Deeply Flawed CERA all the time with moon.
  25. Sure. Just like it's pretty clear why Vaz got most of the innings in spite of Plawecki having better numbers with the stick.
