  1. The fact that Brasier had a -0.1 fWAR (4.84 FIP) in 2021 didn't help.
  2. If they sign Schwarber, they would pretty much have to pay some luxury tax this year. They could then conceivably get back under in 2023, when JD and Price come off the books. But we don't even know what the tax thresholds and rates will be yet.
  3. Up until last year with Stroman and Gausman, players accepting QO's were pretty rare. I don't think E-Rod will accept.
  4. As for Houck, he looks like one of those new hybrid vehicles...
  5. Bloom has said he envisions Whitlock as a starter, so it's going to be very interesting to see how they handle him next year.
  6. You keep saying it would be crazy to pay E-Rod 18 million, and it's a 10 million raise, after a bad year et cetera. People have tried to explain the logic behind it. That E-Rod's peripherals were better than his ERA. That comparable starters like Stroman are expected to get 90 million deals and so on. But you just keep beating the dead horse. You asked earlier about whether we could spend the 18 mill better, and I said yes, that is the right question.
  7. And Schwarber does have a higher career OPS+ than either of those two.
  8. What other better bats than Schwarber are available?
  9. I'm thinking about next year. I trust Bloom to think about the beyond.
  10. I think Old Red is about the only poster on Talksox who actually dislikes Schwarber.
  11. Wins are wins. JDM is worth 3 wins.
  12. Plus NFL football? I may have to make a run to the liquor store.
  13. Knowing Bloom's patience, we probably won't find out until a little after 4 PM CT.
  14. Yes, apparently those $1 million Whitlocks are easy pickings.
  15. My only reason to keep Kutter Crawford would be his name. Unfortunately, that was my same reasoning with Sam Travis.
  16. Today's the day we find out!
  17. Nick, this sentence makes it sound like you have no clue how the MLB payroll system works. Not a good basis for discussion.
  18. As far as I know, the answer to both questions is yes. We'll find out on the second one when the much-awaited 2021 lux tax announcement comes!
  19. It seems like a lot of what you're calling decisions is just habitual behavior, instinctive responses. We don't make that many decisions in a day that require actual conscious thought and a choice between distinct options. I assume you're calling the choice of which shirt to wear one of those decisions. The fact is we do get do-overs on a lot of our decisions. I'm sure you've put one shirt on and then later decided to change into another shirt.
  20. Whether we like it or not, the game of baseball has become dominated by technology, from pitching management to defensive positioning to launch angle and exit velocity and plenty more. Technology just can't be held back, it seems.
  21. It was just a silly joke with notin. But I also like notin's point about the sport of track. It would be absurd not to officiate that sport with the best technology available.
  22. I do review my posts. And I just edited one up above. Seriously, Nick, you're grasping at straws here.
  23. Actually, get rid of those damn watches too, they're technological and accurate as hell. Do it by eye, man.
