  1. Well, sort of. "Head-scratcher" implies you don't understand it, no?
  2. But it's also JBJ's 24 mill vs. Renfroe's 18-19 mill for 2 years. The total net difference, assuming both of them play well enough to stick around for the 2 years, is 5-6 mill.
  3. I think your repeated use of the phrase "head-scratcher" might be the whole problem here LOL
  4. But of course you have to look long term. ERod is a 77 mill investment. This trade has no impact on that kind of investment.
  5. It doesn't bother me that much. I just don't get why this deal confounds you. We've already seen other examples of Bloom buying prospects, like the Ottavino deal.
  6. And they're not going to do anything until the season is in jeopardy. We've seen this movie before.
  7. Yeah, but in this case Bloom's reasoning is obvious. Prospects + defensive upgrade + hope for offensive bounce-back. Your head-scratching should be over.
  8. Well if that's been your point all along, why are you still head-scratching?
  9. You do realize that Renfroe was coming off a 160 season when Bloom acquired him? That guys like Renfroe and JBJ tend to fluctuate with the bat?
  10. Two better players for the difference between JBJ's money and Renfroe's money? Say what?
  11. It was 1 year of Betts for 5 years of Verdugo, that's why it was a good deal.
  12. Do the math though. The difference in money between JBJ and Renfroe is peanuts compared to what it would have taken to sign E-Rod, for example.
  13. Yes, well, to get a player like Duggie you give to give something back like a Mookie Betts. Bloom isn't a miracle-worker. He's not going to get blue chip prospects for trash.
  14. And moon says JBJ is his favorite player.
  15. The explanations seem simple enough to me! But Old Red and moon will continue to be befuddled.
  16. Can't have it both ways. You either trust him or you don't. I'd say you don't.
  17. There haven't been any good $300M contracts yet. Of course, that's partially because they only started handing them out recently. But it remains to be seen if any will be good investments.
  18. You left out the improvement in defense. Our defense needed an upgrade somewhere.
  19. I’m not scratching my head at all. Bloom's approach is a little different, but I think he has an idea what he's doing.
  20. One other thing that occurred to me about trading Renfroe is that not only does he get a raise from 3.1 million to an estimated 7.6 million, but he'll get another similar raise for 2023, in his 3rd year of arbitration. So assuming you wanted to keep Renfroe the next 2 years, you'd be paying him 18-19 million for the 2 years, and then he's a free agent. So while it was a great contract for 2021, for 2022-23 it's not.
