  1. Yep. No prospects for Dave to trade = no 2018 ring.
  2. Sorry folks, but we do not need scheduled doubleheaders. There's always going to be a bunch of unscheduled DH's for rainouts anyway. And to be honest, I don't think anyone gets that excited about those DH's. If the Red Sox play a DH against the Yankees you're talking about 9 hours out of your day, and a lot of anxiety about the number of pitchers we're going through etc.
  3. You can't just look at the exchange of talent though. If that's you all you look at, then sure, you're not going to win a trade of Mookie Betts.
  4. No offense, but I trust Bloom's evaluation of prospects a lot more than yours.
  5. Chalk it up to the peculiar compensation structure of MLB. Renfroe made 3.1 mill in 2021 but is projected to make 7.6 mill in 2022. That's a 145% increase the team has no control over. And a similar raise can probably be expected for 2023.
  6. But you know, it's what, about $20 million at risk? To me that's still a pretty small risk compared to some we've seen.
  7. And let's not forget - he's clutch! .900 postseason OPS in 69 games, 194 PA's.
  8. And yet you're worried about losing Renfroe's bat, because of the 96 RBI, despite the fact Hunter is a 237 career hitter?
  9. Exactly. That's why it's fun.
  10. At this stage of the game it's a matter of isolating the biggest differences in their positions and negotiating compromises. These people seem to be lousy negotiators.
  11. The 90/10 thing seems to apply to everything.
  12. The players have agreed to tiny increases in the tax thresholds the last couple of CBA's.
  13. Bowden also suggests the players feel like they lost the last 2 negotiations and determined to win this one. Which does sound credible...
  14. I think Bowden has a great proposal on the luxury tax - say yes to the stiffer penalties, but bump the threshold up to 240 million. As notin might say, even Dombrowski should be able to put together a good team for 239 million.
  15. https://theathletic.com/3128010/2022/02/14/bowden-its-time-for-mlb-players-to-make-the-owners-an-overwhelming-offer/
  16. Yeah, I wish I could link the article but it's pay-walled, of course.
  17. FWIW Jim Bowden of The Athletic thinks the owners have made considerably more concessions to the players than vice versa.
  18. Strictly a guess, but I think he made the right call. Became one of the best closers in the game, won a ring, made plenty of dough.
  19. I don't disagree. I'm just wondering if a floor has even been discussed. If not, I can't see them introducing it at this late stage. But who knows.
  20. It should, yes. Are there any indications a floor is being talked about in the current negotiations?
  21. A cap potentially affects every single free agent, even the cheap ones, by potentially taking richer teams with cap issues out of the bidding.
  22. I see you have your hands full.
  23. Not when the penalties are the equivalent of a hard cap. That's a major change.
  24. They've had revenue sharing provisions for years, and some of that money comes from the luxury tax. The Rays have proven that you can succeed at lower payroll levels if you're, you know, smart. But is it the Red Sox fault that their revenue is so much higher than most?
