  1. And is he really worth 150% as much money as Story or more?
  2. You're exactly right, and you can go back even before free agency. Reggie Smith being a prime example.
  3. Here's a hypothetical for you: if the Sox offer Bogey an extension that equals what they just gave Story - 6/140 - do you think he'd take it?
  4. Duran posted even better numbers - 19 in 82 games at AA, 16 in 60 games at AAA.
  5. Yes, we had some fresh proof of that with Duran last year.
  6. I know exactly what you and others are saying, I really do. I hated it when Mookie was traded, and I wish we would keep Bogey and Devers. But it's a two-way street, because these guys want enormous amounts of money to stick around. I saw an interesting piece about how disappointed Chipper Jones was with Freddie Freeman for bolting to the Dodgers after the Braves made him a pretty substantial offer.
  7. But how come there's money than ever in MLB if there's less interest? It's kind of like Yogi's classic: "Nobody goes there any more, it's too crowded."
  8. Personally I think I'm past the stage of having much lasting sentimental attachment to players. All I want now is a well-run team, and that's what I think we have.
  9. Rendon is an excellent defender, however, which makes him worth quite a bit more.
  10. Well, we did sign Bogey to a 6 year extension. It just so happens that Bogey wanted and got an opt-out after Year 3. Now it's his choice whether to use it, and of course he will. It's not quite the same as letting him walk as soon as he hit free agency. Not making any sort of effort to keep Devers would certainly be disappointing, though.
  11. Can't have it all. Of course Bogey could elect not to opt out, but we know that ain't happening if he stays healthy and produces this year.
  12. Being realistic, it's pretty likely that this is Bogey's last season in Boston. If they can keep Devers I think we should be happy with that.
  13. Let's not forget he was also a Boris guy when he signed the relatively team-friendly deal he's playing under right now.
  14. All last year they said that?
  15. Other expert 1: "With Sale out, there wasn't much choice." Other expert 2: "Right, and Houck will still be getting yanked after the second time through the order."
  16. 2022 = The Big Showdown Between Desperate Dave and Patient Chaim!
  17. I actually think that WAR is very beneficial to a player like Bogaerts. Without it some fans might ask whether his supposed defensive mediocrity negates his great bat. But he had an fWAR of 5.2 last year, which confirms that the answer to that question is a resounding NO.
  18. JD managed an .867 OPS last year, and a 1.135 OPS in the postseason.
  19. I don't know, but I think a more meaningful question would be about increases from 2021 payroll for tax purposes. Right now we're up about 30 million over 2021.
  20. He does. He's the Doubting Thomas of Talksox.
  21. We could certainly use a nice surprise from the pitching farm this year.
  22. I think that's what they call "hope as a strategy", Nick.
  23. Can't forget there are 3 Wild Card teams this year, like 2020.
