  1. Yes, that all makes sense. And "nibbling" is a good word for it.
  2. We're playing baseball? Holy crap.
  3. You're really trying to equate ERA, which a grade school kid can calculate, with numbers like WAR? OK...
  4. Keep crossin' em off.
  5. Yeah, like I say, we were kind of putting our faith in DD and the medical staff to evaluate Chris's health properly.
  6. Modern analytics are NOT popular with the 'average fan' the way those well-known stats are. fWAR makes the average fan's eyes glaze over. IMHO.
  7. I get that - my feelings have been like that, too.
  8. It was a no brainer to be worried about him, yes.
  9. Every single Red Sox fan has been nervous about Sale's health starting in about August 2018, if not sooner. We just assumed the doctors who examined him knew what they were doing.
  10. He's always making attention-grabbing predictions, and he's been wrong plenty more than he's been right.
  11. You're right, it was notin who jumbled them.
  12. Trick plays are rarely used. But we all know about game plans based on long hours of studying film.
  13. Call it what you want, but the Dodgers have been the best team in baseball over the last 5-10 years. 9 straight years in the playoffs. Pretty sure they'll make it 10 and counting. I do get your arguments, but I don't get pointing to the Dodgers as a team that shows spending doesn't work.
  14. Standard stats are not analytics.
  15. As for football, nobody cares about analytics because they've always seemed like an intrinsic part of the game (since Tom Landry came along, at least). It is a war game, after all...
  16. I'm not convinced. We have some old school-y fans who post here and they are well aware of analytics and generally don't care for their impact. And it was kind of a big story when Snell got yanked early in that WS game...
  17. Dan is a champ at stating the obvious. But yeah, Sale's outlook is worrisome.
  18. OK, that's fair. But I'm thinking that once they've made the decision to fork out and go to a game, they do notice certain things about the way the game itself is played and managed.
  19. I have no problem with Will. My wife and I used to watch the Brinkley show with Will, Sam Donaldson and Cookie Roberts every week.
  20. I get your point, but free agent players are going to continue to be overpriced from now until kingdom come. And if they do sign Devers to an extension, they'll probably have to "overpay" him too! But that may be a moot point because, according to Devers, they haven't talked to him about his future with the team at all...
  21. Sale's injury certainly did nothing to get the front office excited about 2022...
  22. It sounds like you might be more caught up than me.
  23. The gripe being heard about basketball now is that it's become too much about the 3 point shot.
  24. Well, they are banning the shift next year, right?
  25. What do you think the casual fan cares about?
