  1. Seager's contract is ridiculous. They obviously had to pay a major premium to get him to play for a lousy team.
  2. Me too. But Mookie's AAV is 7 million higher and his contract runs 5 years longer.
  3. .660 is a little below break even, I'd say. Maybe .680.
  4. Of course. Crazy is fun, until the contract goes sour, which many of our big-dollar ones have done rather quickly. Then nobody seems to see the fun in it.
  5. I think you're a little too focused on AAV. Have we not learned that having dead money on the books for a period of years is not a lot of fun?
  6. It's a good question. 2018 OPS .717 fWAR 2.8 2019 OPS .738 fWAR 1.4 Obviously his defensive numbers were much better in 2018. His defensive numbers were much better in 2021 than they were in 2019 BTW. A 2022 OPS of .700 should result in an fWAR of 1 to 1.5 depending on the D.
  7. Boonie will save one of his major screwups for when it really matters.
  8. Of course. There's also the chance that if he can apply a better approach with the bat he could at least hit that .700 OPS mark.
  9. The fact is there are multiple crazy owners. I think that's what John Henry doesn't want to be, one of the crazy guys.
  10. Not if you're only getting the bat. You'll have to find a comp who's a below-average fielder.
  11. I fail to see how point #2 trumps point #1. Their projected payroll for CBT purposes this year is $242 million. They're still spending. We can argue about how they spend it, but that's a different argument.
  12. The only real counterargument is that Soto is not a free agent until 2025, and until then the big payday is at risk. Fair point about not wanting to commit to the Nats, though.
  13. Wander Franco's AAV is 16.5 million, and he's more than 2 years younger. I think you're oversimplifying a bit. A total contract of 300 million plus is a huge offer no matter what the AAV.
  14. The Yankees strength is their pitching. Signed, Cap'n Obvious.
  15. Yes. This can be a win-win. The idea that Bradley has no potential value is kind of absurd.
  16. We're talking about Devers now. You don't think they would offer him $220/8?
  17. These are some fun math riddles you're coming up with. I think I would definitely rather pay $220/8 than $290/14.
  18. Like everything else in the modern game, I'm learning to accept it. My opinion won't change a thing. It's still a great game, fortunately, they can't really screw it up no matter what.
  19. Well of course now fans will be demanding to know what the offer to Devers was...
  20. Bogey will be about 2.5 years older at the start of next season than Seager is now.
  21. Lackey is a borderline call.
  22. Winckowski and Winkleman. Perfect.
  23. And naturally, I'm perusing the box scores this morning to find that the Phils have a reliever named Bailey Falter.
  24. I have the utmost confidence in Bloom and Cora to make good decisions. It sure is nice to see some of our pitching prospects get off to good starts on the farm.
