  1. OK, Barnes's second extra inning appearance was on May 4. He came on in the top of the 10th with the score 4-4. Already used in the game were Davis, Strahm, Robles and Diekman. Barnes got 2 outs, then gave up a HR, single and walk. Sawamura then came in and gave up a single and HR. Danish was in Worcester at the time. It was slim pickings.
  2. And I have to say it one more time - Northcut is a beautiful name for a home run hitter.
  3. A story that bears watching. Hopefully it's nothing long term.
  4. All true, but it's time for me to nail down notin on this one.
  5. What about Theo Epstein's tenure with the Cubs? Do you think his first few years were a failure?
  6. Who should he have used instead of Barnes in those games?
  7. Let's face it, during the season these grades go up and down with the team's W-L record. I would give Bloom a B and Cora a B+ to this point in this season.
  8. There's nothing new about the "all hands on deck", but Cora did try something different in 2018 with having starters pitch an inning or so in late inning relief stints between starts.
  9. As I said, Alex Cora actually did what Nick is suggesting, in the 2018 postseason. Which led to the infamous Restgate. One could also speculate that Price and Porcello were adversely affected by it. They were never really the same. Of course it may have been decline that was in progress anyway.
  10. How can we answer it any better than the evidence that the guys that actually run the teams think it's too taxing to be worth it? They didn't do it in the old days, either.
  11. Bloom still has time to enact some improvements.
  12. Just lucky I guess.
  13. I think Bloom has done lots of good things, but the pen is bad, and that's on him.
  14. Well, maybe Whitlock would have gotten injured if he was closer, too...
  15. I'm thinking more about cheaper relievers who are actually good. Just for one example, a guy like Phelps of the Jays.
  16. Dalbec is making minimum wage, that's a big reason why he's a fit.
  17. That's what I'm saying. It's a little different from the team holding meetings about how to juice properly, though. The players were going WTF is this?
  18. Not really. Teams usually sell off expiring contracts at the deadline, not the cheap guys.
  19. Someone in the organization thought this would be a good idea because they assumed the whole league was taking steroids.
  20. The whole point is that the team WASN'T EXPECTING the doctor to tell them how to take steroids properly. They were expecting a lecture on the dangers of taking them.
  21. Ha ha, what horseshit. Go read that story again and get back to us.
  22. Dalbec has been red hot. Not really the time to talk about moving him.
  23. Pretty hard to dispute that.
  24. Back to back days is the key.
  25. Had to fight fire with fire.
