    No, Devers has the highest OPS+ of his career. That's what you should be using.

    Koji was very good in 2014. In 2015-17 he only pitched a total of 130 innings. Still a quality pitcher, but age starting to really show.

    On the other hand, how many long-term (5 years or more) reliable late inning relievers have the Red Sox had in their history? I can only think of two, really - Radatz and Papelbon. Koji was awesome in 2013, but returned to earth after that. Kimbrel gave us 3 very good years, but he wasn't very good for us in his postseason efforts.

    Could be. Our expectations get too high sometimes. But a 2.72 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 5.13 K/BB in your first 148 ML innings is still pretty good.

    Bullpens are basically a new boat every year. Bloom has to do better, that is for sure.

    True. One thing people forget about poor Calvin Schiraldi in Game 6 was that he threw 55 freakin' pitches in that game...

    Danny Boy. Yes, and he's a great story. A little sorry we didn't nab him ourselves.

    I have never had a problem with spending money on one really good reliever, like Foulke or Papelbon or Koji or Kimbrel.

    Spending a pile on name relievers doesn't guarantee a thing. The Rockies tried it a few years ago and it bombed spectacularly. The Yankees tried it with Chapman and Britton. How are Chapman and Britton doing this year, anybody notice?

    How do you know there are millions of disgruntled Sox fans, really. Do you think those grumpy guys who call in to the open mouth shows perfectly represent Red Sox Nation? When I watched the Sox 9th inning comeback the other night I was struck by how into it the fans were, in spite of the Sox place in the standings.

    Two shaky RELIEF ACE outings in a row by Whitlock. Maybe the RELIEF ACE role is too big of an ask over the long haul, I don't know. It's not like there are a bunch of guys who have done it for a number of years.

    I don't disagree, but in the final analysis it's our injury-riddled starting rotation that has really sunk us this year.

    Yep, it's as simple as that. The way I see it, Cora makes moves that can definitely be called "questionable", but he always has a reason for them. He's not a snoozer. And he is fully aware that Schreiber has been pitching much better than Barnes...
