Neither Story nor Kike are as injury-prone as you just made them sound. You're not really an objective or fact-backed observer.

I think the reality is they don't know if they're going to be able to re-sign Devers on a livable deal or not yet.

A full on fire sale would have been trading those three plus Wacha, Hill, Kike, everything that wasn't nailed down. For some madmen it also would have been trading Devers...

Not having a fire sale was "largely" for PR purposes, I don't disagree with that. But hell, a lot of running a baseball team is for PR purposes. The fans pay the bills.

I disagree. I don't think Bloom was lying when he explained in detail the thought process behind the deadline moves. He knew the team still had an outside shot this year, especially thinking that Sale would be back at the time, and that you can't just throw that away. Your belief that Bloom wanted to burn it to the ground is pure personal speculation.

With a 2.5 fWAR in 88 games, he hasn't been bad this year.

No. 365/12 = 30.42 There were reports about the deferred money bringing down the AAV, but they were incorrect - there was no adjustment, apparently because the interest rates at the time were so low.

Wacha has probably earned himself offers like 3 years for $35 million or thereabouts I'm guessing?

Two corrections, Max: -The contract extension started in 2021, so it's only in the second year. -The average is $30.42, not $36.5.

Bogey and Devers both have a higher OPS+ than 2021, because offense has declined across baseball this year. I would prefer to see OPS+ comparisons.

Or move Raffy to first base. Somehow I don't think a dream infield of Devers, Story, Mayer and Bogaerts is a possibility in the real world though.

The first thing I would say Nick, is that I don't think Bloom would tell Henry 2023 is the year to go all in to win a ring. But it's definitely a year to win 92+ games and have a chance at a ring. So we probably aren't making a run at deGrom. Maybe his old friend Syndergaard, though.

Sorry jad. A SeaDogs game would be great, but the trip would probably cost me two grand Canadian. And my wife has that money and several thousand more earmarked for a kitchen upgrade.
