  1. Devers only has 65 RBI, for that matter. If we're going by RBI, he shouldn't get a big contract either.
  2. Houck is a possibility. And BTW I'm not arguing that we don't need more back-end bullpen help. I liked the Foulke signing. I liked the Kimbrel trade. I like anything that helps us win games.
  3. So jackson's term for it is "multi inning relief weapon". Next we can have a poll on the best name for it.
  4. As you're saying, it has become a role. So you might as well call it something. I've seen it called relief ace more than once, and it seems about the best name for it.
  5. I'll post the way I want to. You can certainly stop responding to me if you prefer. You're probably right that I've been picking on you lately. Maybe it's because I like you and respect your baseball knowledge, but you disappoint me with your constant shots at Bloom supporters and "nerds". You often do it in a very passive-aggressive way. And then you will post things about how everyone has to lighten up and stop taking things so seriously. And then you go right back to the same stuff, just as you did on this thread, with the "only on Talksox" and "we all know who voted for relief ace" comments. Why is that necessary?
  6. If you Google relief ace you'll get a bunch of hits. I did not make it up. Jeezus.
  7. You know exactly what you're doing. "Only on Talksox." "The poll is slanted." "We all know who thinks the relief ace is the best choice." "The relief ace idea is not going to happen, except in the minds of the same few posters." Those are all your words, and they are directly aimed at other posters. Don't play dumb.
  8. How in the hell is the poll "slanted"? Ridiculous.
  9. Wow, what a sourpuss. It's just supposed to be a friendly discussion, but you have to use it to crap on other people here who think differently from you. I guess that's just the way it's going here lately.
  10. I was a big BS & T fan. Their first two albums are great, one with Al Kooper and one with David Clayton-Thomas. After that things started to slide a bit. I'd have to say they're borderline at best.
  11. This Yankee offense is feast or famine personified. They're the highest scoring team in the AL. They've also been shut out 11 times. Compare that to other AL East teams: Rays 7 Jays 7 Orioles 7 Red Sox 3 (LOL)
  12. #1 starter isn't really a confusing concept. But is the #1 starter necessarily an "ace", is the question. See 2015 Red Sox.
  13. It's also lower than the Qualifying Offer a certain poster has suggested extending to numerous Red Sox players after this year.
  14. Yes, it certainly looks like that was one of Dave's best moves this year.
  15. Nope. You can pry execs loose from the Rays with more money, but not from the Dodgers.
  16. jackson, you've been a fan a long time. This is how the game is. It's determined more by the quality of the pitching than anything. Last night's starter for the A's has bad numbers, but he probably had his best stuff last night.
  17. Dire Straits and the Doobies are in.
  18. Agreed. Tull is the most egregious omission.
  19. The point is the Rays get a lot out of a low payroll. If you add money, like with Friedman in LA, then you can really dominate. You are as stupid as it gets.
  20. Balderdash, Denny. Not only has the relief ace idea been around for over 5 years, any Red Sox fan should remember a concrete example of it being used. We faced Cleveland in the 2016 ALDS. Terry Francona was using Andrew Miller as the relief ace and Cody Allen as the closer that year. Regular season numbers with Cleveland: Miller 1.55 ERA .55 WHIP Allen 2.51 ERA 1.00 WHIP In Game 1 of the ALDS Miller came in in the 5th inning and pitched 2 innings. In Game 3 he came in in the 6th and pitched 2 innings. So no, we didn't invent it. You just missed it.
  21. For the benefit of anyone following this and wondering about this "symbiotic relationship" Elktonnick is trying to lay on me... It all started because I was defending moon against repeated unprovoked attacks by Yankee fan troll JDavis76. This inspired the troll to start making homophobic jokes about me and moon. Nick decided to side with the troll, and now he's running with it on a daily basis. A real class act.
  22. This post really establishes your credentials as an arrogant fool. Congrats. I get along well with most posters here, so this is like water off a duck's back.
  23. Verdugo continues his somewhat valiant quest to get his 2022 numbers into shape.
  24. Lots of varying thoughts on the best way to utilize this fine pitcher we stole from the Yankees!
  25. I know, but Matt had a lot of meltdowns in the second half last year and the first half this year. It would be great if he's back on form.
