  1. Yes, it all starts with the injury and the mystery about how and when it happened. Nomar said he got hit by a ball in batting practice before an exhibition game, but no one else remembered seeing it happen.
  2. Well, whether the stories are all true or not, I can't say, but that's exactly what Nomar was accused of being in 2004 - selfish.
  3. DJ especially was a huge loss.
  4. It shouldn't be a boring winter for Red Sox fans. Bloom will be under the spotlight more than any other exec in baseball.
  5. And remarkably enough, the guy who was to be traded for the wonder boy, Manny Ramirez (along with Jon Lester, reportedly), didn't get upset about it and had another great season. It was a mere $12 million shortfall that may have radically altered Red Sox history.
  6. I think the most reliable evidence that Nomar was hurting the team was that they traded him, and got back another shortstop who was obviously not nearly as good a hitter.
  7. Disagree 100%. Loaisiga had thrown 2 innings and 25 pitches the day before. Surely you weren't expecting him to do that again.
  8. As I said, the PED evidence is circumstantial. If you want to dig into the bad team-mate stuff, it's really all about the injury he had in 2004, and it's well-documented.
  9. The evidence is purely circumstantial, admittedly. The SI cover and the way his body kind of fell apart. It's hard not to be cynical about that era.
  10. Nomar's behavior during that game was only one chapter in the story. But even just sticking with the on-field aspects of his play that year, trading him was the right move.
  11. He was, but for me he has two clouds over him, a PED cloud and a malcontent/season saboteur cloud. As a result he's nowhere near my list of favorite Sox players.
  12. Altuve is 0 for 23 in the postseason so far.
  13. Amusingly enough, Donaldson has K'd 5 times in 8 PA's in the series, but doubled and walked twice in the other 3 PA's, so he has an OBP of .375.
  14. At the same time, trading him in 2004 was one of the best moves in franchise history.
  15. Verlander did throw a ton of pitches the first couple of innings, but settled down the way aces do.
  16. German has a 6.23 ERA in a SSS 21.2 IP vs. the Stros, with 6 dingers allowed. I think Boone has good reason for being shy about him.
  17. Yeah, about freakin' time.
  18. No kidding.
  19. Many Red Sox fans detest him, and we all understand why, but Machado looks like he was actually worth a 10 year, $300 million contract.
  20. And Yankee fans blamed Boone for Game 2 and 3 losses.
  21. Congratulations, Yankee fans. You had to sweat that series out a bit. The ALCS could be a beauty.
  22. I'm afraid to do the math on the tax payroll after those moves...
  23. Yes, that's what the analytics guys say.
