  1. The crazy thing about the A-Rod near-deal was that the Red Sox only needed to pay an additional $12 million to get it done. But they balked, probably figuring they could come back to it. Then Aaron Boone played some pick-up basketball, and the rest is history.
  2. I don't think that's true.
  3. We're all gonna have to work on that LOL
  4. Bloom: But John, we have to pay a mighty steep premium for those healthy arms.
  5. FWIW a recent article in the Globe about Whitlock made it sound like he is definitely gearing up to be in the rotation on Opening Day 2023.
  6. And I'm a sucker for bringing Eovaldi back. Seems pretty unlikely though. If Bloom passes on QO's for both Wacha and Eovaldi, he better have a darn good reason.
  7. Speaking of Wacha, he was brutal his final two starts of the year. Wonder what that was about.
  8. So "hardly a rarity"?
  9. That's a pretty yucky way to look at things.
  10. As a wise man once said: "It's a good thing we're not paid to run the Red Sox."
  11. On Ottavino's transactions page it shows the Sox sent a PTBNL, but it doesn't say who that turned out to be. Also worth noting, I guess, is that Ottavino had a fine 2022 season and only made $4 million.
  12. 14-11 to be exact.
  13. I don't think this is correct.
  14. Showalter has never been in a World Series. And he made a horrific managerial error in the Wild Card Game the O's lost to the Jays, failing to use Britton with the game on the line in hopes of a save opportunity that never came. Nobody's perfect.
  15. He was traded for Sale, so that easily justifies it.
  16. Kopech has a career fWAR of 2.7. How good is he? Still pretty hard to say. Injuries have derailed him a lot, obviously.
  17. I see some of that, but the team did make the ALCS in 2021, and did they really "have to bring JBJ back"? And frankly they should have spent Story's money on pitching. We didn't really have to fail in 2022.
  18. I don't care how free-spending you are, Judge's age puts a damper on a mega-deal.
  19. The thing is, when a GM "decimates the farm", you would expect one or two of them to really be missed. Sure it might be nice to still have Kopech, Margot and Espinal, but we're not talking about major losses here. Maybe Kopech will alter that view at some point, we will see.
  20. I guarantee the Yankees aren't increasing their offer by $191.5 million.
  21. Henry owes you no apology. He brought you 4 rings after having none before him.
  22. Eck still looks like a kid. The sign of a man who's had a good life.
  23. My official bar is set at 2.5 fWAR.
