  1. Better than Schwarber's 233 career Ave.!
  2. A losing record can be 80-82, or the 1962 Mets 40-120. Some see differences in the two.
  3. But again, they still ended up with a $234.5 million payroll for tax purposes. Acquiring more actual big leaguers in June-July would only have increased that, and would also have meant trading some prospects, presumably. And probably all for naught.
  4. The Dodgers and Mets went aller inner.
  5. And there was very little he could have done about that. I think we may have discussed this point already.
  6. Now Berrios was a trade-and-extend, which is what Talksox intelligentsia are saying is the key to our turnaround. I guess even with a trade-and-extend you really have to get it right!
  7. The dreaded C word!
  8. I'm pretty sure Bloom isn't even thinking about Judge as an option for the Red Sox. It'd be fun to see the Yanks and maybe the SF Giants get in a little bidding war for him, though.
  9. It's always about money, no doubt about that. We know the owners wanted 14 this year but had to settle for 12. I'm skeptical that 16 playoff teams is anything in the near future.
  10. He had 462 PA's in 2018 and 460 in 2019. Not really "nothing but a backup".
  11. Is "going all out" pretty much the same as "going all in"?
  12. All these guys have talent.
  13. Mine too. Not trying to crucify Bloom just for trading Springs, but our pitching was horrible this year, and Springs was good.
  14. Maybe. We're only at 6 per league right now, so that would be a huge step.
  15. Again, that makes no sense. If Bloom had the right instincts about Springs, he wouldn't have sold low on him.
  16. Speaking of catchers, final CERA numbers for 2022: Wong 3.72 (138.0 IP) Vaz 4.21 (643.1) Plawecki 4.32 (420.2) McGuire 6.33 (229.0)
  17. OK, well, "timing" is just another way of saying "blind luck", no?
  18. There's no perfect way to do it.
  19. How do you watch these games, Larry?
  20. I may have to purchase a special screen cleaner to take care of your oozing sarcasm.
  21. But the teams with the 2 best records in each league deserve an advantage. This new system rewards regular season performance. The Phillies are coping quite well with the disadvantage so far.
  22. "The timing was off" is pretty useless as an explanation for such things. The real questions are how did Perez and Springs get better after leaving the Sox, and why did Bloom think Springs was so expendable on a team desperately in need of pitching?
  23. I'm tempted to put some money on these crazy M's right now!
  24. The Wild Card games in previous years were obviously a crapshoot, and so are the new best-of-threes. Now we have 4 clear-cut favorites in the Yankees, Astros, Dodgers and Braves. Let's see how they do.
