    Why are you so sure about that? You don't think Bloom has a good shot at following in Cherington's footsteps? Cherington (arguably perhaps) did better in his 4 years.

    Some folks have suggested the reason they didn't spend more was to save some money for the trade deadline. That's kind of a sad joke, for obvious reasons. $16 million under the tax threshold - why so much? Maybe math isn't Chaim's strong suit?

    I get your point, but it's still weird they wouldn't spend a bit more on this team, especially the starting pitching. They went over the tax threshold last year, but dove back under it this year while other teams were spending big. There's stuff that just doesn't make sense. But it certainly might be more a case of confusion and ineptitude than not caring.

    And then there's MLB Gameday, which produces hilarious-but-disturbing images of little green balls inside the strike zone, and little red balls outside the strike zone.

    Bloom apparently likes the guy a lot too. Promised him we'd be way better this year to entice him to re-sign with us, or so the story goes.

    Other sports are using electronic officiating pretty extensively now too. As for a game decided by bad ball/strike calls, that's a tough one because it's hard to connect the bad calls directly to the outcome. But if I'm not mistaken, there was a bad call in Game 4 of the 2021 ALCS that might have tilted the game from the Red Sox to the Astros.

    You can blame it on me. Another poster said something about nobody wanting Eovaldi back, and I knew it was untrue. Nobody ever said that.

    Yes, this is exactly why, to me, it made so little sense to invest no more than $10 million in the rotation this offseason.

    His price tag was steep for a DH, no one would argue otherwise. The Dodgers got him for a reasonable price, though.

    I don't like this argument. Using the same logic we should have hated the Devers extension. Just because the 2022 team went 78-84 doesn't mean everyone sucked. Bogaerts and Wacha were clearly not problems, so wanting them back does make some sense.
