  1. You brought up something during the offseason about Bloom being the diametric opposite of DD in that he consults with and weighs the opinions of others to the max...and maybe to a fault.
  2. Only the first part of that opinion would be unpopular.
  3. This has to be one of your most valiant posts ever, moon.
  4. No one knows what thoughts lurk behind John Henry's enigmatic smile. I do tend to think now that Bloom has been given 5 years. Meanwhile, the rest of Year 4 promises plenty more suffering for Sox fans.
  5. That plus Seabold's performance in the first game.
  6. I'm not convinced that John Henry thinks Bloom is doing "exactly what he was hired to do". I think Bloom is doing part of what he was hired to do, reduce payroll and build the farm. But I do not believe Henry was expecting the actual major league team to turn into a dumpster fire while those other things were being done.
  7. Some good news: Cora says Kike is done at shortstop and will be moved to a utility role. It'll be Reyes until Chang is ready to return.
  8. Nope. James Click was hired by the Jays as "VP of Baseball Strategy".
  9. Kutter Crawford vs. Chase Anderson Let's Chase Anderson early.
  10. I don't believe the playoffs are a total crapshoot, but I think the crapshoot factor is significant.
  11. Our suckiness is a moving target.
  12. It would be different, but it still wouldn't be good LOL
  13. Over 90 games to go, but how many games until it's time to decide whether to have a fire sale?
  14. It is weird that now that we're pitching better, other teams are pitching better against us. But that's baseball.
  15. I get that, but my example is still a fact. A guy who is hitting .350 is guaranteed an OPS of at least .700.
  16. Yes, we can all make up our own scenarios. But what sense did it make to spend on the back end of the bullpen if they weren't expecting to contend this year? What sense did it make to sign Story for $140 mill if the first few years of that were expected to be losing seasons? However you look at it, it seems like a half-ass job.
  17. A guy who is hitting .350 with no walks and no XBH's has an OPS of .700. .700 is twice .350.
  18. It may not be his idea, but he's a big part of how we got here. He could have prevented it by signing Iglesias or whoever you prefer. Chaim thought it would be more fun to try stuff with what we already had.
  19. BA is so nice, OPS counts it twice.
  20. And here in mid-June the chorus of folks talking about who to trade at the deadline is growing. Even though there are 3 Wild Card teams. Pretty depressing.
  21. Frustrating team. We keep wanting them to be good, but all they can be is what they are, which is perfectly mediocre.
  22. We can analyze Bloom's moves to death, and we'll continue to do so, but the bottom line is he's put together 2 sub-.500 teams in a row.
  23. I already answered that it's not the most informative by itself. But it's not without information value. OBP and OPS are more informative because they add onto or modify batting average. That's why I said it's a starting point.
  24. OK, try this-how many hitters in baseball history do you think have had an offensive WAR of say over 4 in a season? And how many of them did it with a batting average below .200?
  25. Now what are you talking about? The typos don't help.
